Well, I downloaded about every mod and AI pack I could find today, installed them all, and chose my AI pack that I wanted to play against. But when i try to open RA2 there is an error message box, you know the annoying little "Send error report" dialogue box. So of course I have done something wrong. Anyone have any ideas what I've screwed up how to fix this?
-
Just overwrite the Teams folder and that's about it. If there's something wrong again, I just restart the computer until it works again. It occurs once in a while, don't worry.
-
first off what packs did you download? and second keep it to one pack per RA2
-
I downloaded every AI pack to be had, more or less just because I wanted to see some cool designs in action. And yeah, I figured out to just do one at a time.
-
Oh and by the way, thanks for being patient with me and my inexperience.
-
No problem. We help people who deserve it (damn, I sound like a superhero. >.<). :D
-
ITS A BIRD, NO ITS A PLANE.....no wait never mind its just pwnator jumping from a building again lol
which packs were giving you the issues ?
-
Well I dont think its in the AI packs, I just took all of the AI teams out completely and tried running it, but still won.t run...
So I'm guessing in not in the packs. Or would I be wrong to assume this?
-
Try restarting your computer. If it doesn't run, restart again. Repeat until it works. My RA2 usually crashes every 2 days and I have to restart it twice for it to work again. Not sure if this is the case for you.
-
I restarted about 4 times now, and still nothing. Could it be a corrupted file?
God, I hope I won't have to reinstall it. It's not that I have anything saved that isn't backed up, I just don't want to have to put all the mods in their respective places again.
-
Hmmm... this is quite weird. You were able to build bots, so the problem's probably a corrupt file. Did all the other mods crash too?
-
get a clean version of RA2 (so nothing done to them) usually by install and make multiple copies of it after its installed rename them to things like Robot Arena 2, Robot Arena 2 DSL, Robot Arena 2 Starcore, etc
and copy and paste the whole pack to it (some packs require custom components so copying just the teams alone wouldn't allow it to work) and if prompted overwrite everything
and see how you go
also in my signature there is instructions with pictures that I wrote for DSL 2.1 :)
-
Well, I wasn't able to build anything since the last reinstall, but I had one ready to put in once i got it all up and running.
I'm not sure, the game opens up to the "Infogrames" screen, but then goes back to the desktop with the error message. So the game itself isn't wanting to open.

I have the game disc, if that makes any difference as far as being a clean version.
-
just try with DSL 2 first (using the link in my signature) and see how you go from there :-D
Edit: also if R1885s AI pack is giving you grief don't worry their is an actual problem that everyone is getting
-
Installing multiple AI packs or AI-changing mods on a single copy of RA2 is pointless as some of them overwrite each other.
And i hope you're not using mods with custom parts...
-
copying AI/ is not enough, some AI defines music under the UI folder, other needs special components, etc.
JoeBloe and Nar are right : Start slow.
just install DSL. test it.
Once it's done and OK, create an new RA2 folder (from CD) and install Starcore or Rage2.
Here, you will have enough fun for a long, long time. Moreover the bots you will build may enter tourney.
If, after that, you still want to download ALL the AI. come back here, tell us which AI (once at a time) you tried to install (supposed it was OK before install), and you may have some help. But a sentence like <> is too general to get some help back.
-
Alright. Thanks for all the help, guys!
-
try downloading ra2 from page 26 of infs summer magic. If that works then copy it and put the mods on it instead.

Sooo.. That means that YOU CAN have all AI packs on the same RA2?
-
Not a wise idea, because some AI packs have components/bot lists/bindings who conflict with one another (DSL and Stock are most obvious in the comparison).

Sooo.. That means that YOU CAN have all AI packs on the same RA2?
Well, if you know how to add a Team under AI, when you download a new pack, you extract it in a temporary folder and then you add your team 'manually' (enriching the files teams.txt and bindings.py). that work as long as :
-you do not mix DSL and Stock
-AI pack do not use special components.
thus, you should have rage+startcore+stock+some rfs bots in a single RA2 folder.
Limitation : when entering event, your foe are only selected from the first 16 teams. So if you want to fight events with bots from teams with index greater than 16, you must changer the order of your teams (in the folder and in the teams.txt) - or use the program i sharein my signature (some ads here)-.
PS : to add a team : see
