I have had the same apple headphones for 4-5 yeas now.. never a single drama with them...

high cost products are worth it in the long  run
QFT
I bought some headphones that were about 25-30 pounds and they're brilliant.
Comfortable and brilliant quality audio and had them for about 4 months and they haven't broke yet (which is very impressive considering how often I use them)

And joe, do you mean the headphones that come with the ipod?
They are very good (even though they aren't in ear), and i've got an extra pair now my new ipods arrived

Apple headphones suck. Really tiny bass, sand-ish higher frequencies, too much middle.

I have a military grade gaming headset that cost $40. The wires are hugely thick and well-protected.

I disagree, i'll agree that their is more middle but the bass isn't that far back if you ask me (although TBH I do prefer less bass), maybe it's just the album your listening to ;P

Anyway, usually poor quality headphones have far too much bass.

Not really. These headphones are just way too small to be good, hence the crappy everything-but-middle range. And it's not my sound card either (ESI Juli@).

Meh, when I was using them I found the adequate for my music, but i'll admit I always use my pair of large headphones for my guitar and amps.

Sounds to me like a dodgy connection.
If you move it around a bit it will probably fizz and/or cut out completely again.
