Title: DSL Problem
Post by: Cobra! on December 03, 2009, 07:54:33 AM
When I Downloaded the DSL mod, some of the stock components went missing, I checked the folders, they're all there but they're not appearing in the game, and no matter what I did, they never seam to appear. I even got the origonal files from my back up copy of the game and copied/replaced them into the foldier, and it still didn't work, also, when I click on certain components that are there, the game crashes. :vista:
Everything else works though.

So Far I found that the Ballast and some of the Servos are missing

Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
I have the CD Version of the game, with DSL 2.0 and the 2.1 Patch Installed

Ah. Some stock components are missing because they don't fit well with the game. If you can see, the stock servos are replaced by DSL servos. If my memory serves well, the ballast is still in the extras section (ballasts are rarely used in DSL :D).

If some buttons crash your game, try installing the 1.3 Patch first, then install the DSLs. :D

That Was Fast, I'll try that, but what about the robots I made, I don't want to lose them, where would I find them?
and last time I installed RA2 & DSL on my old laptop, the servos were still there.

Hmmm... that's odd. Some of the files probably weren't properly overwritten. If you want your old bots, just open the game and export all your bots. They'll be in your Robot Designs folder. Just copy them to somewhere safe, then reinstall the game. :D

its recommended that you install regular Robot arena 2 and then copy the game itself when you want to install other mods that way you can keep things like old bots safe in there own version of the game  ;)

I have 20+ copies of the game on my computer :P

Yeah, it's best to have different copies for different versions. Stock bots won't fight well against DSL bots, hence why the components are hidden. Just make some even-more-awesome DSL versions of your stock bots (realistically, of course ;D)

Stock parts will never show....they are hidden, but still there so stock bots imported will not crash the game.

well, I like to have the stock components, because I trust them to work, most dsl components for me will ither crash my game or just don't work at all

Why do you want to unhide them?
You either play stock, or you play DSL!

But if you really want to, you open the txt file and change Standard to 1 (or something like that...been years)

well, most Robots I make use both DSL and Stock Components.

This is a big no-no here and makes for unbalanced bots (= cheating), so i suggest you get rid of this habit right now.

some stock components were rebalanced to compete in DSL standards

mixing isn't a good thing

Mixed vs Stock AI = over powered

Mixed vs DSL AI = weaker then straight DSL

most if not all keep them both separate and play them separately

if you want to unhide the components you will need to decompile Components.cfz and open the text files and delete the line Hidden = 2 (this makes them only accessible through cheatbot2

fair enough, but I can't make AIs, nor do I fight them, I just put my robots agenst each other and control them both, I wish I could do AIing, but it never works for me, and thanks.
