Custom Skins prevent me from skinning ingame
« on: September 09, 2015, 02:10:35 PM »
This is a problem that I've only noticed recently, but seems to plague any version of RA2 and any computer I use.

Essentially, if I create a custom skin that is 1024x1024 or bigger and apply it to a bot, the skinning tab ingame no longer has any effect - whether I try to apply colour, texture, edge line etc.

Has anyone else had the same problem/fixed it?
My above post explains everything about everything.

Apply one of the skins in the "custom skin" folder that's 256x256.
How you make Alarm Clock Pizza is:
Step 1: You buy an alarm clock from the store, and then you have to break it and put it in the sauce.
Step 2: Fold the sauce in 5 slices and put it in the dough.
Step 3: Paint the eggs with a pitcher of a clock showing what time you want to wake up and eat pizza for breakfast.
Step 4: Put the eggs in the dough.
Step 5: Make it flat into a round shape and draw the time you want on it.
Step 6: Put some old steel to prevent other peple from stealing it.
Step 7: Make it flat and cut into 60 slices 1 for each minute in 1 our.
Step 8: Put in the oven set the timer to 30048813.2884 seconds and put the temperature on 'Volcano' setting.
Step 9: If you think it is take to long, then get yor alarm clock and set it to now so that it will ring and you can take it out.
Step 10: Take it out uv the uvin wen it is redy and go to bed. In the morning eat pizza and also eat yor hands bi mistake.

Does that not defeat the point of using a texture with a higher resolution?

I've had this problem before. It makes precise skinning a pain. Unfortunately, the only solution I've learned throughout my experience with RA2 is that you import a 256x256 skin from the Custom Textures folder. In case you have a special method for this, you might need to figure out his out in your options.

You're going to have to manually apply the decals in your image editor of choice if you want to apply them. It's easier to do in an image editor because decals don't come out as a blurry mess most of the time like they do in RA2.

As for edge lines, you can paint your bot red and apply edge lines before you export it, and then just export the bot skin as-is and edit that.

I was already doing that for decals, but that's a really good idea for the edge lines, which I think I'll have to start doing.

When you export the template, the green edges aren't the place where the edge lines are? I would use a program that let you make different layers, so you scale the template, make it transparent and put edge decals on where the green lines are.

I'd exported a skin which already had stuff on it, rather than using the template. I could easily use that method though.

If I need the textures with decals added, I just export both with different names.

yeah that's unfixable afaik. it's a real shame.

what I do is just apply edge lines in and decals in the image editor.

Export a standard template of your robot's skin, stretch that to desired size, and then drop the artwork you've done onto that.
