Title: Confusing problem
Post by: Dark Richician on December 25, 2008, 05:27:08 PM
Hi.  I'm new.  I got RA2 and installed the DSL 2.0 things and I'm sure I did everything right, but nothing is different!  There's no new components, no new robots, nothing!  What's going on?

Maybe I haven't actually installed the files, which it doesn't say how to do.  How do I install them?

If you want to keep playing the original game, make a new copy (you can just do copy/paste on the desktop). When it asks if you want to overwrite files, you click "Yes to All". It will change all of the files to DSL files.

What do you mean a new copy?

If you want to keep playing the original Robot Arena 2 game. You need to make another Robot Arena 2. DSL will change absolutely everything in the game, and there is no easy way to go back to the original game. If you want to keep playing the original game too, just right-click it, select "Copy". then Right-click anywhere on your desktop and select "Paste".

The copy is the same as the original and the files won't go into it.

Do you use a Nivida card? If so, you need to download patch1.3.

Nope.  I don't even know what a Nivida card is.

I think i know the problem..

Do you even know how to get to your RA2 folder? I have a feeling you just downloaded dsl and expected it to work.

If you mean drag the files from WinRaR to the RA2 file, I already tried that and it made no difference

I actually took Inf's copy of stock RA2 1.3, installed DSL 2.1 (it seems to work) and made a RAR of it, to make things easier for the DSL-hungry newbies here.

I actually try to get the RAR uploaded in the gametechmods file uploader... Well the thing is something like 250 MB... but even if i wait one hour, it doesn't works.

The copy is supposed to be the same. You can get Winrar on the website (on the homepage of this site). It has a free trial period (which is forever, because it never goes away :-D)

If you don't have it, you need it to get DSL. Also When you get the Rar file, you need to extract it and click Yes to All when it wants to copy over other files.

I've already got WinRar, I downloaded DSL 2.0 and the zipped I download after it that goes with it, and I've extracted the files but nothing on the game has changed.  I want to know what to do with the downloads once I've extracted them

drag the folder to your desktop.
open it.
open your RA2 folder.
drag the files.

(At least, thats what i did. i might have gone through and dragged only files, and no folders, to make sure i didn't overwrite anything i needed. You might as well do that.

Now you will have to download the extracted AI bots, or extract them yourself.

To extract a bot yourself go to Exhibition and see the bot you want....the very top team is team0 the first bot is bot0
now go to your Robot Arena folder...which if you did it right should be C:\Program Files\Infogrames\Robot Arena 2 DSL
now go to the AI folder and open the team folder the bot you want is in and right click...select copy, then paste it in the Robot designs folder. There are other ways, but for now just do that and rename it to the bot name after you KNOW that it is right.

EDIT: Since you obviously don't look for stuff, you can find the extracted bots here https://gametechmods.com/?do=RA2_Downloads under RA2 Bots
