Sounds to me like you might have deleted something important. Does it still work if you go into Exhibition?

Reinstall a brand new working components folder.

I don't think that'll work if it's only in the bot lab that it crashes. If it were a bad component gmf file, then none of the bots with that component would work in Exhibition mode. Plus, the game would only crash if he were to click on that component, whereas it sounds like it crashes when he clicks on the Bot Construction tab. I think it might be something to do with either the UI or the gib files, I'm not sure...

He did not mentioned if exhibition worked correctly or not.

That's why I asked. He could try getting a new components folder, and if that doesn't work, then it's something a bit more complicated.

its usually 1 defective component

I had the trouble in a backlash build and I went through the long task of cut/ pasting each text to find the defective one

as I said.. anything custom or modded ?

I would use Naryars suggestion of deleting the components folder and putting in a new one

Or a save of a working components folder if you had the wisdom of making a backup.

I ended up re-installing DSL, works fine now. I guess it was what JB said (defective custom component, don't plan on installing any custom components any time soon). Thanks for the help guys.
