Cant import custom designs into DSL

I have exported a template, done what needs to be done to make it look AWESOME and saved it.

Tried to open it in DSL and WHAM. RA2 stops all together.

Help please?

Either wrong picture type or the Bit-depth is wrong, it needs to be 24-bit.

How do I make it 24 bit.

I am using PAINT.NET by the way...

When saving on paint.net, a popup (yes I understand the joke guys) will appear and asks you what bit depth you want. DONT click autodetect click 24 bit.
