Clicking "Components" crashes game
« on: April 04, 2006, 03:05:08 AM »
I've got the DSL-TC Version, and since I installed it, everytime I click "components" in the Bot Lab, the game crashes. It was like this for a short time the first time I tried, unsucsesfully, to install DSL-TC, on my Regular RA2.

I'm not sure what it is, has anyone ever seen this?

EDIT:
Everytime I click a bot, as in, to edit, no matter if it's one of the stock ones or one I create, it crashes.

EDIT2:
Okay, I tried Exhibitions. Crashes. Apparently, the game dosen't like anything dealing with Robots.

This happened to me once at my Grandparent's computer. The same exact thing. You installed it wrong, that's what happened to me.

To install you don't extract it right to the directory but make a new folder and extract all the DSL-TC files to that folder, then once extracted, move the extracted files via copy and paste them into your directory. You have to reinstall RA2 before you do this though, otherwise it'll make it worse.

Good luck! I know it's a pain in the ass to install but it WILL work if you do it this way. It has something to do with the read-only files in the RA2 directory and not being able to overwrite them via extracting.

again good luck!

Yes as Dino Venger said the error comes with read-only files. If you want to directly extract to the robot arena 2 folder you should right click that folder and take properties and then uncheck read-only box.

Okay, I'vedone what you said, but when I attempt to open the shortcut, it says "This application has failed to start because python22.dll was not found. Re-installing the apploocation may fix this problem."

..what's this?

You did not have a clean fresh install of the game (one of the requirements if you had bothered to read the installation instructions)

After you install the pack properly then open the Robot Arena2 DSL-TC folder in your Infogrames folder and right click on the Robot Arena2 Launcher icon and send to desktop as shortcut...then rename it to DSL v1.2 or whatever. Also if inside the folder is a Components.cfz then delete it as it is not needed and causes trouble for some.

I didn't install the Robot Arena 2 patch is what went wrong, I think. Now everything is awesome except for when i click "motors". :/

Also, a lot of components don't have pictures, but only some of the ones without pictures actually crash the game, so it's guesswork clicking parts.

I'm wasting time tweaking the default bots, but I can't do much without Motors, eh?

Did you follow MY installation instructions?...

Because those are more for those who have errors with the game.

Just uninstall whole game. Install it again. Patch it to 1.20V. Extract dsl-tc mod to its own folder. Then go under infogrames folder and right click robot arena 2 folder and then take properties and uncheck read-only box.

Now copy and paste everything under that dsl-tc folder to robot arena 2 folder and then replace all what it asks.

Now it should work and also you can delete components.cfz file if you want as ACAMS said.

Thank you, everything is working fine now. Apparently, I didn't uncheck the Read-Only fbox for the right folder.

Okay, everything worked until I unstalled the update for the DSL. Now I have the same problems. I'm going to have to live with 1.0. x_x;

EDIT: Okay, everything's straight now. I just un-updated the DSL 1.0 components that got overwritten.

Have you already tried my advice? Because if anything that should work. Or even that doesn't work then you must have corrupted copy on the cd.

Or do you have downloaded version? Then you need to run that bat for downloaded version what is found at dsl's folder.

And to check have you patched your game to 1.20v go to credits and see the right upper corner to see if there reads 1.20. If not try to insert your cd in the drive and reapply the patch.

Well now you are seriously out of luck because if you can't find 1.20 version of that downloadable version you can't patch your game.

And the "DownloadVersionPatch.bat" is located under the dsl temp folder where you temporaly extract your files.

When I extract dsl 1.0 version it is right under the dsl folder where you temporaly extract it. Or use your eyes or use search and type that in when you have extracted the 1.0 dsl version.

That's weird it should be there. Try to redownload DSL 1.0 and 1.2 packs from these sites.
