Can't host online or LAN games
« on: December 05, 2006, 09:35:54 PM »
I know this realy doesn't have to do with dsl, but maybe you guys can help me anyway.

Every time I click on the start button it acts like it is loading up. After about five seconds I can move my mouse again, but it didn't start the match or change screens.

Umm... Hard to say anything, because firewall doesn't do things like that.

And I have never experienced anything like that.

okay, i tried hosting a game through gamespy and this is the message i get.

GameSpy Arcade has detected that your computer's internal IP address (192.168.1.102) is different than its external IP address (xx.xxx.xx.xx).  This may be caused by firewalls, a NAT proxies, or other unusual network configurations and may prevent you from hosting a game.  Please see our Firewall Guide for further information.  You can access it by choosing "Help with GameSpy Arcade" from the Help menu.

I am using a wireless router, but i am not using a firewall. I have litterally opened every single port in order to get this to work, but it still isn't

You might be using a firewall and not know it.  Antivirus programs for example can have them built in.

What start button is this exactly?  The "host game" button or the "start match" button?  If it's start match, it might have something to do with the people you are fighting or the bots you are using.

I think the problem comes from your wireless router. Because routers make kind of double ip to your computer, as the gamespy said. And that means that your computer's IP address is different than your modem's IP address and THE GAME don't understand double IPs.

So your problem is the router. Get rid of it and connect your computer directly to the modem so that you have only one IP and that means that your Internal and External IP is the same and that mean that your computer's IP is same as the modem's IP.

Problem solved. Get a modem with only one Lan plugin in it and connect your pc there and now your external and internal ips are same. Then the game understands your ip address and you can host.
