I believe that there is a specific action that can cause explosions that can be avoided.
On my robot, Cladhammer, I had to make building conditions just right so that I could minimalise the explosions.
On the picture below everything is geared so that there are minmal explosions, now it might sound like I am babbling but this genuinely works for me.
When I decided to use a counterweight for the hammer, I found that some of the attachments caused the motor to explode more than others. The hammer that is on now has been tested and I have found it to be the best one yet.
Strangely this may or may not be something to consider, but the highet of the robot also changed the frequency of the explosions. The robot exploded more if the chassis was more shallow, so I had to remake the shell loads of times before I couls stop this possible apparent problem.
Now when in battle with the robot, I always keep my 'downarrow' button held, so that the hammer does not get flip and does not pivot of its own accord. If this happens and I try returning the hammer, the explosion occurs, this cannot be prevented so far as I have seen.
So when you are in battle also try to hold your return button down so the hammer doesnt swing by itself, otherwise KABOOOM!
And remember to try different attachements onto the hammer, different extension sizes and (anti)ballasts to try and prevent the explosions from happening. And btw, if you find a perfect method, come back here and do tell!
Hope that helps you some!
