DSL 3 AI & Exporting Issues
« on: May 18, 2013, 09:48:34 AM »
I am sorry if this has been posted here before, I couldn't find it anywhere by searching.

I just got my hands on the DSL 3 beta (I had DSL 2.1 for a while, but I'm still pretty new to all of this.)  I have a couple of problems with it, though -- they seem to be fairly major and I'm wondering if I'm missing something simple.

I did what the readme said, and installed DSL3 over a clean copy of RA2.  The game boots fine and I can see all of the components, etc -- great!  However, all of the AI bots seem to be driving backwards and don't really seem to know what they're doing at all.  I also noticed that every bot I rigged up with motors seemed to need me to rig them the opposite way that I normally do (Counter CW instead of CW, for example.)  I wonder if I managed to mess that up somehow, or if it's a standard problem with DSL 3.

My second, and possibly bigger problem, is that I can't seem to export bots from in-game.  Once again, I am new -- don't hate me for asking this; is there a separate tool you guys use for exporting your bots?  In-game, I can click the 'export' button, but it doesn't generate a file like it should, and I'd really like to be able to export my bots...  possibly for entering BOTM or anything of that nature.

Any help is much appreciated, guys -- hopefully it's just something silly I messed up or misunderstood.  Thank you for your help!

There was an issuse with the wheels that was fixed for DSL 3 which now reverses the steering.

I don`t know about the export problem but you don`t have to export your bot for BOTM cause there`s no botfile needed.

So the AI is just destined to not work at all in DSL 3?  And all motor rigging just has to be reversed?

And as for the exporting, it would still be nice to be able to export the bots for the future when a full release of DSL 3 is out.  If I export a bot from the game and then go to a new bot and hit 'import', my exports are there.  However, there are no actual files generated outside of the game, and even if I copy/paste the whole RA2 DSL3 folder in the same spot, my teams/robots aren't there.  I don't get it at all...  Thanks for your response, though.

There is already an DSL 3 Beta AI pack in work to replace the AI that works with the old directions (https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=13624.0)

I heard of the problem with the export before but I don`t know what causes it. My export sutt works without problemes.

The "AI" in DSL 3 beta is just the normal Stock AI anyways, so they would be no good at test robots at all.

Well thanks for the input and answers, guys -- it's appreciated.  I now know that I'm not just crazy and the AI/enemy bots just plain don't work right now in DSL3.  I still don't know what's up with my exporting of bots, but it's frustrating.  Ah, well -- it's something I can deal with.  Thanks again!
