Title: a few questions
Post by: eishiba on February 10, 2010, 01:22:41 PM
Its been a while since I got on here.

1. What steps must be taken in order to make a robot you created, playable by the computer or to play against you?

2. In my components category during gameplay, there are several spots that are blank and empty. Clicking on them sort of crashes the game, sending you out of the game getting the little error reading. One can always just restart the game from there but those empty spaces cause this. Why? Can I do anything about them?

3. I'm sure many are tired of me asking questions about the battlebots parts but in the battlebots toner download there is an "AU AI Readme". Inside are some of the bugs listed. One is for diesector. This is exactly copy and pasted what it says.

> Diesector Crashes the Game - Download the AU Motor Pack here: http://www.aceuplink.com/discussion/index.php?showtopic=544
When I got that website it seems to be basically a search engine. Am I supposed to do anything specific?

OK, rant over, and problem fixed........welcome back eishiba, it has been a while since I've seen you.

#1 - You need to get somebody to teach you how to AI your own bots.

#2 - You can download the AU motor pack here https://gametechmods.com/Robot_Arena2/Components/AU_Power_Pack_1.zip (https://gametechmods.com/Robot_Arena2/Components/AU_Power_Pack_1.zip)

I've looked through the tutorials with the Q/A sections. It has oneforplaying as an AI bot but not how to make your bot an AI bot.

Q2. What game and version?

robot arena 2 dsl. i downloaded it from the site here a while back. i have no other patches downloaded. Just a few other components and mostly the battlebots downloads.

Well I sure hope you didn't put them all in one game folder, If so there is your main problem. You need to install the Stock game and patch it to 1.3, then Copy/Paste that folder and rename it to DSL and install DSL to it by hand.
Then copy paste the stock folder again and rename it Battlebots and install Battlebots to it by hand.
ALWAYS keep a clean patched folder to Copy/Paste for each mod you want to install.

I'm starting to have issues with trying to even start the game now. It goes to the very first screen once you start the game. And then it sits there and does nothing more. The only thing I changed was adding the things into the components you gave in the link. I tried it once and it worked. I came out to look up more stuff and went back and now it won't load anything after that first screen...help?

You may need to start all over from the beginning and do it like I said right from the start.

I have kept a clean copy of the regular and dsl basic no patches and all that other junk. I used a clean copy of dsl, put all the things from the battlebots stuff into their respective folders...this new ones loads the game...but for example, when you go to start a tournement or are saving or any moment where you get the "Loading..." it loads, very very very very slowly. Is there something that causes the game to load and save information much slower? I have all other programs closed so only the game is running. ...its sucks being a noob...

ACAMS is the man.

Need some more details on this one, Eish...
But off the top of my head, if while 'in-game' you hit the 'Windows' key to go 'out-of-game', then once you go back in=game, the bot files will load VERY slowly.
The cure is to load a simple bot or chassis only, and then go into the practice garage and back out.  Then it's ok again.

If this is not your issue then please give a few more details like; what things/actions/section of the game you're in when this consistently happens.

Well, for example, my first screen when starting the game. The first screen is black, with the Infogames logo in blue on the top left corner of the screen and the bottom right is the aceuplink logo with a site link at the bottom. This screen ususally sits there for a long time. After probably 2 minutes it goes and the screens flash by as you hear the little, "Dsl, total conversion". Then selecting your profile puts up the "Loading..." message. This results in another 3 or 4 minutes. Importing a robot costs another 3 or 4 minutes...if it imports it. I made one of my ra2 files specifically for battlebots cause I like it so I will import some of them attempting to modify them or something. Plus I suck at making anything "destructive" like what i see in here. And then when either testing the robot or backing out to select another robot you get the "Saving" prompt. This is another 3 or 4 minutes. There is no point in starting a tornament. That takes a very long time to load. If you can get it to load, the game runs fine. But those loading times are extremely long.

Like i said, most are those battlebots and stuff and alot have shell on them with a bunch of stuff on and inside them. By the way, can someone explain to me what a Safety Zone is? I noticed some of the robots have this. Its like a big orange box in front of them but its not visible in a round, only in the creation part.
