why not Google sketchup? Mojang uses it to make Minecraft.
You do realize the choice of the modeling software doesn't really matter? It's like arguing over what color should the icon be.

Quote from:  Vertigo in Garvin's thread
Don't start saying what the modders have been making isn't good enough.
Joe has been making Backlash for ages, put loads of work into it, and by the looks of things, when it comes out it will be a fantastic new mod of RA2 to play, the same goes for Click and DSL3
We are limited yes, but the boundaries are being pushed to the max, and what is being produced is big step forward

There are only a few people we've got that can do this sort of stuff (completely not including me, so I don't have the foggiest why you put me in your original post), and with the greatest respect, you are quite new here. We can't do anything with the other game (the botapp one), as the source code has unfortunately been lost, all we will ever have is the demo. So you're implying that the select few that could possibly do it, make a whole new robot combat game from scratch, do you have any idea how much work that would be?

What I am trying to say is, give the modders some respect for what they are doing. You have said "we have all been making mods of RA2", "we should mod it", "we could ignite the spark". We? No, "we" can't, and again with the greatest respect, I'm quite sure that you couldn't help at all like the majority of us. This could be done, yes, but for the select few who could do this (JoeBlo, Click, Serge, Madiaba etc.) it would be a VERY difficult and a VERY long task to achieve. Just appreciate what they are doing at the moment.

If Serge was posting this, and had already made good progress with the "new game" on whatever physics engine he was using, then maybe yes, there would be motivation for all those people to get together and make an improved robotic combat game. But for people to start making a WHOLE new robotic combat game at the drop of the hat isn't going to happen.

Sorry if that sounded a bit harsh, I just wanted to fully explain the position that RA2 is in, I highly doubt a new game will be made

Well, That is true, But the guy that made BotApp did it by himself (I think..?)
So it IS possible, But nobody has time to do it :\

Thats the sad thing about games, They eventually die because the people making progress (Modding & Such) dont have enough time to do it & Nobody else really does anything more than ask (Like meh D:)

It would take ALOT of time & Effort but it could be possible if omebody really wants to do it, Just like the guy that made BotApp, He did it coz he wanted to do it :P

-

I know some snad game that I used to play like 3 years ago, It used to be alive... Mods being posted almost everday, ALOOT of things to do with that game.
Then the dev stopped making the game, The modders remained & A few more experienced people kept developing it little by little... But it just slowly died.

Now, The forum only gets like 7 posts a month, Mostly about an inactive community, RA2 hasnt reached that point yet, But it will sometime.

Think about it: If Click stops developing DSL 3 & Joe stops Backslash, What do we have? Nothing.
Even if Click stops DSL3 but JoeBlo keeps going with Backslash the community might die (No offence to Joe, Backslash is awesome!! But its not as "Official" as DSL)

This is probably a really stupid thing to post but it just seemed like a basis for robot movement

^This^

No offense but that's basically what the first post was..

The problem with BotApp is that it's not really that impressive. When you think about it, the gameplay was almost the same as in RA2 - all rigid bodies, no deformation... boring!

@Skiitzzox220: Yes, it is stupid, as five minutes of work in Blender does not a game make nor does it contribute anything towards possible development. It's like sayin cutting out a cardboard silhouette of a car seat contributes toward the design of a car.

Just as Vertigo said, I had tried numerous times to get this to happen. But I got yelled at everytime. It just wont happen. Our only chance at that spark igniting is if the Killer Robots show makes a HUGE impact So HUGE that a gaming team decides to make a video game off it. Not gonna happen. Its like this " Hey lets give up The Call of Duty franchise for this". See what I mean.

For some reason I always read it Backslash D:
Am sowweh, I mean Backlash :3

I find that pretty harsh actually... You gotta start somewere, And I give him credit for atleast trying instead of just standing there & Crying for another RA game like meh :P

And I think for the 10mins that I played BotApp was more fun than most of my RA2 combat experience... RA2 is like boxes hitting eachother & A few otuside pieces coming off while BotApp looked more dynamic coz of the breaking pieces of chassis & Such.

I know BotApp was FAR from being a real game, But the combat was enjoyable enough for me to consider it better than RA2's.

If someone wants to make another Robot Combat game we shouldent just diss him for it, I hope this guy acutally gets somewere (And doesnt loose the source code :P)
I myself have a friend that knows some programming & Can make games, Im trying to get him to get interested in robot combat, But he asks for money to make a game like BotApp-ish (Ofcourse, Better)

EDIT:
Why do my posts always come out THAT big? Is it cause I use

too

many

paragraphs? D:

BotApp had no bot building capabilities thus would die pretty fast in a community standpoint..

So I'm not the only one who thought that..... For anyone who is wondering it wasn't me who made that video I posted earlier but I could probably do it if someone gave me 999999 years :P

Except he's just wasting his time, and he makes all the idiots here hyped about ZOMG SOMEONE IS MAKING RA3 GUISE.

BotApp looked more dynamic coz of the breaking pieces of chassis & Such.
You could achieve the same effect with RA2 if you made components which looked like those from BotApp.

Sure, provided real progress is made instead of 5 minutes of messing around in Blender.

I myself have a friend that knows some programming & Can make games, Im trying to get him to get interested in robot combat, But he asks for money to make a game like BotApp-ish (Ofcourse, Better)
The problem is 'a friend who can make games' is not enough. This would be a complex project, unless you want to end up with another RA2 (ergo unrealistic physics).
