What do you think are the worst storylines in a video game.
WWE'12 Outsider(Triple H) Road to Wrestlemania: This storyline made absolutely no sense, First the storyline started good until it got to Triple H returning which when he enters his dressing room, he talks to Kevin Nash on the phone and Kevin Nash is apparently right next to Triple H when he called Nash and then Nash attacked Triple H. This was not explained later in the storyline or in the next part at all.
WWESvR2011: Vs Undertaker RTWM: Th storyline was good until the part where Paul Bearer returned and then you get the Undertakers urn from Kane and you have to capture these black vortexes and later you have to face Jake Roberts, Jimmy Snuka and Masked Kane all in there prime later in the story.
Transformers Dark of the Moon Stealth Addition(Wii and DS): One word describes this: FAIL. The game will not let you transform into a robot, so you have to defeat everything in car mode and not only that, the storyline takes place before the movie unlike the 2 other games, which asks the question why was this game based off dark of the moon if it happened before it and after Revenge of the Fallen

I'm more interested as to why how you've come into possession of those WWE games actually... :trollface

And the Final Fantasy games, and in fact most games in the RPG genre. I prefer games like Radiant Historia, where the hero's actually a competent age (youngest is Aht at 9 - Raynie, Marco and Eruca are 17, Stocke is 19, Rosche is 21 and Gafka is mid 30s), and games like Rondo of Swords, where the idea isn't to save the world at all - and, in fact, good and evil aren't so clear cut

You mean most games in the Japanese RPG genre. Although, none of the Final Fantasy games I've played were about 10-year-olds. However, I've only played 1 and 7.

Finnish transvestite fanboys over FPSes and causes everyone to die a little inside

I've played Final Fantasy 7 and 13. They have decent storylines that they actually bother to extend, so that people can read about other things going on concerning the storyline if they want.
Crackdown 2 has one of the worst storylines ever. The only thing that keeps it going as a 'good' game is the open environment.

Whenever I think of "Crackdown", I always think of the old Mega Drive game of the same name :approve:

Random nerd dons a suit of power armor and shoots aliens all while not talking.
Seriously, why does Valve love making their protagonists mute so much?

Crackdown's graphics make me want to gauge my eyes out. (the Xbox one, not the Megadrive one)

Only Portal and HL.

A perfectly good thread, ruined by insults. I'd have no problem if it was in Playground, or Chatterbox, but Games is kind of crossing the line.

I hate it when GF93 calls me a transvestite, like thinking it's funny thing and he gets all the respect from others.

I can't actually think of any games that I have played which have a wretched storyline. Tony Hawks American Wasteland, possibly. But that whole game was in itself a trainwreck.
And that wasn't nice, Gf93.

GF, keep this sh** out from EVERY single thread, and if you have something to say about my sexuality, do it by PM!
Back ontopic, I hate these moments.

Agreed, in retrospect. Maybe I did go a little too far.
But yes, I do agree there. The Tony Hawk series went a bit downhill after Pro Skater 4.
-
4 I didn't like, personally, but Underground 1 and 2 weren't bad. My favourite will always be 3.
-
I can't think of a bad example.
-
Jonzu might be on to something with Half-Life being the best game 'EVER'. I read stuff magazine's article on the '50 greatest games ever', and they share the same view as me and Jonzu - Half-Life 2 is the number one greatest game due to gameplay and storyline.
Suck it, GF93 and MNB. Every Valve game made so far has been way beyond decent.
-
Most overated game = Skyrim
-
No, Skyrim isn't overrated by people who have played at least Morrowind and Oblivion. The Elder Scrolls has been ruined by people overrating Skyrim and not realising it's meaning to those who actually show interest in it as part of a long-lasting series.

Well that's just, like, your opinion man.
And actually, Skyrim is my first Elder Scrolls game, and I LOVE it.

Darn right.

Skyrim is above average, I prefer Fallout.

That I can agree with. I actually bought Skyrim because I liked what Bethesda did with Fallout.

You've got much worse lately; constantly trashing Jonzu is pointless, unwise and extremely offensive.

You're a band dedicated to Metallica. You open for them. Wow.
Guitar Hero really does suck story wise.

I liked Fallout 3 (it had a sense of humour and was basically a huge throwback to Dr. Strangelove Or How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb), but I've always kinda considered Bethesda to be not exactly the best. Bioware kicked their ass before Skyrim came out (although I have no idea why they wasted time with SW:TOR and the crap story of MA3) in Western RPG terms.
-
What's MA3?

NFX Implicating he knows everything about FPS games? HL2 has the best storyline, EVER. And it's overall the best game.
Non.
I think he was rather implying SOME FPS games, I mean I had to check through the thread before I said something akin to what he said. Funnily enough, this is another topic I wrote a short blog about on hipster blogging site Tumblr.

Worst storyline, Q.U.B.E... (hint: There is none)
Honorable Mention, Sonic Riders
-
Doom 2 has a pretty generic one.
"omg john there are the demons and you must kill them w/ ur gunz
"i must kill teh deomzn"
and then john kills deomns
but it's the greatest game ever so it's ok.

Game probably trounces HL2 for hardcore gamer value and is still scary as heck.
-
Doom has the best fan fiction ever though.
Also, all Sonic games have pretty lame stories that involve collecting chaos emeralds.

John Stalvern waited. The lights above him blinked and sparked out of the air. There were demons in the base. He didn't see them, but had expected them now for years. His warnings to Cernel Joson were not listenend to and now it was too late. Far too late for now, anyway.
John was a space marine for fourteen years. When he was young he watched the spaceships and he said to dad "I want to be on the ships daddy."
Dad said "No! You will BE KILL BY DEMONS"
There was a time when he believed him. Then as he got oldered he stopped. But now in the space station base of the UAC he knew there were demons.
"This is Joson" the radio crackered. "You must fight the demons!"
So John gotted his palsma rifle and blew up the wall.
"HE GOING TO KILL US" said the demons
"I will shoot at him" said the cyberdemon and he fired the rocket missiles. John plasmaed at him and tried to blew him up. But then the ceiling fell and they were trapped and not able to kill.
"No! I must kill the demons" he shouted
The radio said "No, John. You are the demons"
And then John was a zombie.

The entire goddamn game is in flashback because you're being interrogated and stuff

Halo 3: ODST has a really crap storyline. It's all flashbacks/forwards/*whatever other direction time can go in*-wards, swapping characters, etc. Basically, a lot of guesswork is involved to gain an idea of the storyline, aand it's impossible to figure out first time.
-
on the subject of halo, reach was the worst game i've played in a while.
-
The storyline makes you feel somewhat involved, but is a bit vague and jumpy. The multiplayer and forge editing is EPIC, though.

i pirated it and then deleted it soo, I didn't really do any of that.

That was never mentioned, Jonzu. I didn't explicitly say that EVERY FPS game ever made has no storyline, and I didn't even imply that, it's just that a lot of them seem to be quite similar from my point of view, just in a different wrapper. Portal 2 is an excellent game, for example.
I'll agree that most of the Sonic Storylines are pretty bad, though. I've recently bought Generations, and while it's a good amount of fun, the storyline is pretty meh at best.
Has anyone mentioned Wind Waker yet?

i went into my local vidya shop when modern warfare 69 or whatever and battlefield 5 were released and i couldn't tell the difference from the box art.
From what i've heard from my mates they're the same gaem anyway.

Thus my point is proven. =)

BF3 is better.

If anyone else without a life has played the Super Monkey Ball series, every single one of the games minus the first one had complete BS stories (special criticism to SMBA). SMB2 had good gameplay though.
-
A game with a bad storyline?
Hmmmm
Mariokart maybe? considering there isn't a storyline
*looks around the room*
Hmmm im not sure, I usually don't keep or remember games that have/got a bad storyline

Little Red Hood.

Skyrim I can't judge...
ODST I can't agree on some of it was good, it just lacked length.
Its not hard to piece the timeline together, heck it even ran the flashbacks in order in time. :L
Reach summed up the story nicely, but I feel it should have been the ODST's storyline since all but the rookie escaped from Reach.
My verdict Teken through all the years its all about a tourament, and no one shows any sign of winning any of the winnings that it says they would get... Some of them don't even show signs of aging, most of all Wang who in game age he is 102 and still kicks arse!
-
With ODST, it could've done with being longer, I mean seriously, I don't see my dad very often, and we managed to get through ODST in a weekend (about 6 hours, I think). Can't remember the storyline for Reach, but I know that it's likely to be something that only fans of the series will understand/appreciate.
Skyrim has a storyline? All I've been doing is fighting dragons and stealing things. Can't judge because I haven't finished.
With Pokemon, I don't really judge it on storyline, you aren't tasked with saving the world, it's just stuff that happens. What you are actually tasked with is defeating the eight gym leaders and becoming a Pokemon master (well, technically, you are told to fill the Pokedex, that is the main storyline, everything else is just stuff that happens on the side, due to you not even knowing of Team X's existence until you meet them several times throughout the story).
I find that a lot of Final Fantasy games have rather good storyline, even with the spin-offs the storyline is rather good. Too bad that they are starting to screw around with the battle system, heard from my dad that they have just added QTEs. But usually the storyline itself is good, because it isn't just 'beat up stuff and take their stuff', that is Monster Hunter (kill creatures, take their stuff, improve weapons and armour to kill more stuff). As it goes, I find that most Square Enix games have rather good storylines.
I don't play Mario for storyline, I play it for the fun of platforming, as well as level design. Same with Legend of Zelda, really, there is some storyline to it, but I mostly play it for the dungeons and weapons... saying that, this thread is about storyline, and I have started talking about gameplay. Actually, Zelda games can have some rather sad moments, funny moments, and they have more of a storyline than a Mario game.
Sonic games can be rather bad sometimes, but I did enjoy Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2: Battle.
