I found this article on Yahoo detailing Nintendo's next home console-

It must be better than the Wii before it. I gave up on it a long time ago. Also, I hope the games are good, but I may not get it (I've given up on Nintendo for the most part).

Apparently- I was very pleased to hear that it's getting a new Super Smash Bros. game, designed to work in conjunction with one that's being developed for the 3DS.

Eh, Playstation Vita's got me. Over 40 games at launch plus HD remakes of PSP games for free!? AWWWW YEAAAAAA
-
Needs MOAR Metroid Prime.
And decent Zelda games.
And an Okami sequel.
On Wii.
Oh god.
-
If it goes over well, it could be able to compete better with the other consoles. I do think the controller looks really interesting.

Right, so Sony's in on the act as well, it would appear- anything from Microsoft?
And is it me, or does Vita sound like a type of Cream Cracker? :P

The Wii died. This's die as well.

Eh, don't count your chickens 'till they're hatched- we'll have to see what happens come the time they're all released. And hopefully, Nintendo will have learnt a thing or two about shovelware- that's pretty much swamped the Wii and DS catalogues nowadays.

No. It's not just the controller. It's a whole full-fledged new console with a new controller to boot.
Launches: 2012
Size: Approximately 1.8 inches tall, 6.8 inches wide and 10.5 inches long.
New Controller: The new controller incorporates a 6.2-inch, 16:9 touch screen and traditional button controls, including two analog Circle Pads. This combination removes the traditional barriers between games, players and the TV by creating a second window into the video game world. The rechargeable controller includes a Power button, Home button, +Control Pad, A/B/X/Y buttons, L/R buttons and ZL/ZR buttons. It includes a built-in accelerometer and gyroscope, rumble feature, camera, a microphone, stereo speakers, a sensor strip and a stylus.
Other Controls: Up to four Wii Remote™ (or Wii Remote Plus) controllers can be connected at once. The new console supports all Wii™ controllers and input devices, including the Nunchuk™ controller, Classic Controller™, Classic Controller Pro™ and Wii Balance Board™.
Media: A single self-loading media bay will play 12-centimeter proprietary high-density optical discs for the new console, as well as 12-centimeter Wii optical discs.
Video Output: Supports 1080p, 1080i, 720p, 480p and 480i. Compatible cables include HDMI, component, S-video and composite.
Audio Output: Uses AV Multi Out connector. Six-channel PCM linear output through HDMI.
Storage: The console will have internal flash memory, as well as the option to expand its memory using either an SD memory card or an external USB hard disk drive.
CPU: IBM Power®-based multi-core microprocessor.
Other: Four USB 2.0 connector slots are included. The new console is backward compatible with Wii games and Wii accessories.
(Taken from the Nintendo E3 2011 Press Release)
Games announced: Smash Brothers, Battlefield 3, Batman: Arkham City, Assassin's Creed, Ghost Recon Online, Darksiders II, Dirt, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Metro: Last Light, Tekken, Ninja Gaiden 3, FIFA 12, Madden 12, Driver, Lego City Stories
Other facts: (GTTV interview with Reggie, thanks to hiero and others)
The price point of the system will be competitive to the current prices of the PS3, 360 in terms of value
The games shown for Wii U at the show were actually PS3 and 360 versions but the Wii U will look the same or better
No BluRay Support
Controller's screen is single-touch
Backwards compatible with the Wii's Games, but no upscaling is done
Nintendo Online system to be announced by the end of the week

Microsoft is not making anything new. They're working on adding things to Kinect.
I really want to see more on the Razer Switchblade.

i.e.: Nintendo is still for casuals.

That list of games actually looks pretty nice.

Battlefield 3 on the Wii U?

Battlefield 3 on the Wii U?
Yep. It's in both articles.
-
I actually thought the Wii U was just the tablet thing. Now it's a new console, I'm having my doubts. Anyone have a price or price estimate?
-
i.e.: Nintendo is still for casuals.
:trollface
I might get it if they add in a web browsing feature and keep it as a little bed-side mini PC, but other than that, meh.
-
One thing I'm curious about is the graphics. What will BF3 look like on it? :P

Quite nice I can bet- apparently it's in HD.

I cannot imagine this on a Nintendo console-

Hardcore games on a Ninty console! <3
Being able to switch screens if someone wants to watch TV and just play on the controller! <3
Web browsing! <3
The stuff it can do in regards to sports games (eg you can actually catch a ball)! <3
I'm loving it already, not gonna lie.
-
Did they say when the release date would be?
-
2012. That seems to be all. Presumably late, possibly Q3 or 4, I reckon.

It's a home console that developers say is "significantly" more powerful than the current HD consoles. The tablet just streams video wirelessly from the home console. It's not actually doing any of the processing.
It's over a year away from release, so no prices are being announced. I'd expect around $300-$350.

Do you live and breathe misinformation? Sony hasn't yet revealed the launch lineup for the Vita. In fact, from their own website:
Q: How many software titles will be available at launch (in the new game medium/download for each region)?
A: We will announce details at a later date.
And where did you get that HD Remakes will be free? I have yet to see a source that states this.
-
Hope it will include the physics engine for the wwe SvR and 2012 games that were on PS3 and XBOX360. I want to be able to push a ladder over with a superstar on it through 2 or 4 tables outside the ring. I can't do that with the current Wii.
Edit: 1500 posts *yay*

I'm the only one that sees the capabilities as a hacking platform?
-

The tablet doesn't really do any processing, so it would make a terrible hacked tablet computer. Since it probably relies on bluetooth, though, it can likely be made to function in some capacity with a PC.
-
exactly
-
I read the first 2 replies, then I saw something about a 3ds Smash Bros., and my head imploded.
But seriously, WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT
-
Meh, no, the only piece of hardware I'm gonna buy any time soon is an open pandora.
-
The major drawback to me will be the price. Seriously, it's not a console with a screen on the control, it's a portable that needs extra equipment :/
EDIT: Oh my god, it's the effing Dreamcast!

Except it doesn't operate outside of the wireless range to the console, and the console is (rumored to be) more powerful than the current HD consoles.

(Take note that the thing they use to build it aren't proprietary)

Most of the new "big games" for the Wii U (like Mario, Zelda) will be the same thing as the ones on the Wii.

Meh.

Pretty much.

The WiiU should have their own sim racer to compete against Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport.

Please. Nintendo hasn't made a good racer since Mario Kart 64.
-
Agreed. And Gran Turismo is still my favorite flagship racer. I got my copy of Gran Turismo 5 ever since it came out.

I've done that with GT2, 3 and 4.
I've completed every GT game apart from GT5. I don't have a PS3.
-
GT5 will take me ages to complete, you have to drive 24hrs A-Spec...
