Good, free-to-play MMO where you pilot mostly WWII planes and go fight against others. Of course it has a money system but you can play the game without forking out a single cent and very much enjoy it (still a newb at this game so I can't really judge if F2P is a problem, but it doesn't seem to be). Still in beta, so there's new stuff periodically.

You've got light fighters, heavy fighters, bombers, dive bombers (which incidentally is the manliest class) and assault planes.
Good dogfighting action, pretty huge download though.
I play german planes, username's the same as here. Maybe I should have used TheMightyNaryar to taunt people.

Played it for a while last year but it was too arcadish for my taste. The keyboard and camera controls are are a bit hard to get a hang on. People who play with a joystick will have a clear advantage in it.
I say this as a guy who plays IL2 Sturmovik regularly. Those who like quick and brutal action (and WWII games) will enjoy WarThunder. Apparently playable tanks will also be soon implemented.

Personally I don't mind the simple controls, hell you have far enough control on your plane on arcade mode to make good flight tactics.
Also, it's a fun shootout WITH enough skill and tactics involved if you want (or it can be quite mindless).

Quite, I haven't been able to play it yet. Gonna probably start with the Soviets though, I love me some MiG-3s

Kinda played it on/off for a while. Mainly used British planes as well as that hilariously overpowered Soviet biplane (srsly. 18 kills using it once. Many cries of hacks from that fight, lol.) but now don't exactly play it.
I also stole a username from a Touhou character, so hilarity often ensued upon running into other people who did the same.

Also, the mighty Jingle's videos are what will motivate me into, hopefully, grinding my way up to level 9 so I can get both cannon Stukas and the cannon ME.

gonna take a look into this. I play IL-2 a bit but I'm too bloodthirsty to stay within all the technicalities and stuff.
edit: computer is probably too weak to play it anyway but still I'll take a look.

Yep. Computer's too old and weak.
Even at minimum settings the game requires a 3.0 shader support from the graphics card and my good ol' trusty nVidia FX 5200 only has 2.0.

That's too bad, maybe when you buy a new computer ?
Which will probably be a long time from now seeing as my only source of money has higher priorities and I won't be getting a job until the summer anyway

Started playing about a month ago, mostly just use German planes, but got a Soviet set with a Chaika and so on for low level servers

Still play it, using mostly British still. Tanks are fun too.
KV-1 is just like "You have a 57mm? lelelele no."

Also I changed my ideas... dive bombers mostly suck so the manliest class is Attacker or Heavy Fighter.
Stuka's are still awesome. I wish they all get sirens instead of just the first one (which mostly sucks)

Chaika's are a great amount of fun when fully upgraded but they're best used to troll tier 2 or 3 instead of clubbing everything at tier 1.
Once I got killed in my Do217N1 by one. I was indeed rustled >:O

bf109 is for boring casuals
try the duck, the dorniers, the Me202's, some german bombers... the S79 isn't bad.
The JU87D5 is very, VERY awesome once you get the hang of it and accept you climb worse than a lead turtle. Especially with minengeschoss shells.
Most german bombers suck except the ones with the 20mm MG151's in the nose and the latter tiers.

The Stuka's are great for dogfighting once you have decent weapons precisely because they drop like a rock and can do really fast direction changes
