Title: The cancelled Battlebots game
Post by: Resetti's Replicas on April 09, 2012, 09:17:10 PM
Recently someone posted footage of the cancelled Battlebots game, and here it is:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5Hqnuo6u3s# (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5Hqnuo6u3s#)

I have to wonder if this was the final product, it looks aesthetic but the physics seem a bit dodgy, not a lot of components breaking off and a very exaggerated rubberbanding against that spinner that I've taken to calling not-259.  Also it looked like they had no plans to make an arena with OOTA potential, sucks to be Toro or T-Minus I guess.

The replicas looked good though, although it didn't look like I'd have a lot of freedom to make my own (Probably a "pick components from the menu" sort of deal.)

Even if it wasn't finished, that's one ballin' BB game. And is that Garm?!?! Holy crap they had Garm in this game!!!

I saw pics of this stuff beforehand, but I never saw videos. and Fang was gonna be in this? Sweet, I love Fang.

Also I never saw Marquis de Saw before (yes, I know it's not a real bot, just not in pics of the game). Want to replicate it now.

And now I want that Gamecube game now more than ever before. Thanks for posting this Resetti.

regardless of shoddy physics still looks fun as heck.

this game looks pretty cool
physics seem a bit wonky at times though (AKA against vertical spinners)
to bad it was cancelled

I saw pictures of this a while back, here are three screens I have found
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/49344battlebots_013003_3_640w.jpg)

But the one question I have is why was it rated T when other robot combat games like it such as All the Robot Wars games, the 2 Battlebots games for gameboy and Robot Arena were all rated E.

Also I do believe at some point I found a screenshot that showed the airplane graveyard arena from the first 2 games was supposed to be back in this one.

Because of the minigames; there was "Guess Dr. Inferno Jr.'s Sex When You Should Be Providing Commentary," "Convince Accounting That One Guy Couldn't Do Both Your Jobs", "Sue Budweiser Over a Harmless Parody", "Rewrite Bill Nye's Commentary to the Point Where Three Year Old Would Feel Patronized", and "See How Many Times You Can Work The Word 'Castrate' Into Your Commentary"

Man. That game looks like fun.  While it is terribly unrealistic, it still looks like it was playable and could have been a decent bargain bin game.

Wow that looked cool. If they toned down the ridiculous collision between that disc (and the axe on the second bot looked a little damaging when it wasn't moving) that looked like it'd have been loads of fun..

This looked like it would have been awesome, i think it would have been a little funner than RA2 because its on a home console, in other words, i could play it with my sister. and the real bots would be cool too.

it would be hard, because it was a HOME CONSOLE GAME, NOT A PC. we would need all the files needed, put them in an .iso or other file, and get an emulator. I'd say we would need to get the files from someone who worked on it and has the files. It's gonna be hard, but if we can get it, i'd die from a heart attack from my obesity a happy young man.

We could get Merlyn Lear to design stuff for RA2, it says he is an expert using 3dsmax.

Yeah... Except the fact that there are major differences between EPROMS containing a proto designed for the Genesis and something that was probably burned to a DVD-R and eventually destroyed when it got the ax. I do have to say that you are thinking in the right direction, at least.

It was decent for the time. Seemed like they tried to balance the robots such that any one could beat any other one, which led to odd things like flippers and plows doing a good deal of damage.
