Title: Slender
Post by: cephalopod on July 06, 2012, 03:57:41 PM
Anyone played this?

Watched PewDiePie play it on youtube, jumped a lot, then neither Slinky or I could play it. We didn't even see Slendy, just the thought of finding it just freaked us out. :')

There's a new Slender game out, bros

"Sanatorium" I believe it's called, it's like the original but you start in a car park or something. Much more creepy, you can actually SEE Slendra following you

I tried this game, worst part was the screen was so dark I had to draw the curtains in my room so the only light was from my monitor. First try, I could barely see since the curtains were open, and it took me like 20 minutes to find one page, then when Slendy found me I just charged him. :P Second attempt was when I actually drew the curtains and it went much faster; got up to 4 pages, then while I was exploring the house Slendy appeared in one of the dead-end rooms sprouting tentacles, so I turned away but then he simply got me. Third attempt I got 4 pages again, then I examined the three rocks and found a thin crevice blocking my path in a dead end, so I turned around and there he was, right up in my face. I just gave up after that considering how long it had taken me...really scary game.

I played it last night, dark room, lights off, curtains closed. I wandered around and found one piece of paper on a tree. I then walked towards a barn with a car near it. I could hear something near me so I turned around, nope nothing. I turned around again and I got caught by him. Cue me nearly cacking myself and mashing esc as a jerk reaction. I thought i'd last a bit longer than 2 minutes, but meh.

I'll try again tonight and see if I can record my reaction.

I just played it. I wasn't scared one bit, I just killed myself after 3 pages because I was bored. Maybe because I already knew what was going to happen? SCP-087-b is much more scary, IMO, I didn't last 5 mins in that. And I knew that would happen in that too, so IDK.

SCP looks like it's almost the same thing, only in a corridor, but the scare chord, survival horror, and darkness concepts look the same...

I think that it's the fact that you get a ton of warning with Slender, and I just don't find Slender scary. SCP is all jump scares, which scares me quite a bit.

7/8, had two landmarks left to check. I sprinted until I panted, waited 5 seconds, then sprinted again until I panted, and one of the landmarks was in sight. Sprinted again, then he got me, wtf how are you supposed to get the last note if he's already faster than your sprint then?

The technique, apparently, is to keep looking at him while backpedalling. He can't move when you're looking....just hope to god that when you turn to look back again or check if the note is there, he doesn't teleport in front of you. He gets you anyway, but...

Well, it's more his fans, going onto loads of other people's videos and commenting "UMG u copy pewdiepie!" if PDP has even mentioned the same game. And I hate his style.

I think Pewdiepie is awesome... but I haven't watched his videos in a while, anyway. Nerdcubed and LGR/phreakindee are so much better, in my view.

Anyway, I started this game up and got the first page... then ragequit when the scary music started playing. That's what I get for playing it at 11 pm. Will probably have another go tomorrow.

Just tried it, got three pages, I died in the place with the six logs (if I find it again, I will printscreen it), he appeared directly in front of me, and I couldn't really do much (in hindsight, I should've turned the flashlight off and ran the other way, but oh well). I don't think three pages is too bad, considering how I spent most of the time being lost. Out of interest, is it possible for him to get you before you get the first page? And I have just found out that I would've had four if I didn't walk straight past one of them (I spent at least a minute looking around there as well).

Okay, that was kind of what the heck; I got two pages, when I picked up the second page, he appeared right next to me, flashlight off, run in the other direction, he appears in front of me and kills me. Wouldn't've thought that would be possible until later, but oh well. I am rather enjoying it, although there is rather a lot of lag (although that may be down to something like Flash Player using 53% of my CPU again).

There's a readme, you know. And this is probably important, it's for the most recent version. Anything you might have heard about keeping your flashlight off may be outdated, plus this is official.

Quote from: readme
*  Your flashlight has a limited battery; it will not drain when turned off.  You also can look at the enemy
longer while it is off.  However, having it off will make you easier to catch.

The rock formation and cross walls are my enemies in this game. They're where I always die, and I had some weird moments in a recent playthrough at those landmarks. First, I was circling the rocks looking for a page, then when I got to a crevice I could see to the other side of the rocks and he was standing there. D: Then later, right as I saw the page on the cross walls, the scare chord played even though I couldn't see Slendy.

If you set the Graphics Quality to Fastest and get rid of all the fancy stuff in Options on the menu, it'll run way faster.

Still doesn't detract from the fact that I should've turned and ran away instead of whatever I did.

Actually, it is on fastest, and that was the one where I had every other option turned off (I looked at CPU usage, and I think it was the League of Legends updater (apparently it was taking up 46% CPU)).

I did one more playthrough, and got five pages, and I think that may be the most I will ever get. I almost got the sixth one, but he appeared in front of me before I could grab it, so I had to run the other way, then he appeared in front of me again, and I ended up running into him (kind of a stupid way to die, I know).

Ah right, that's because you can add non-Steam games to the your games library, I've done it will two or three of my games, one of which was Minecraft, just so that I could make it appear as Mein Kraft.

Played it again, got five pages, the fifth was in the pipe, as I went to exit, he appeared in front of me, I ran to the other end and he appeared there and killed me. Not managed six pages yet (then again, I haven't managed to find the indoors part yet).

Still haven't beaten it.

Anyway there's a new 0.9.7 version out on the homepage. They kinda got rid of the $20 Mode though...instead you can unlock new light sources like a glow stick and a lantern (Amnesia ftw).

http://www.parsecproductions.net/slender/ (http://www.parsecproductions.net/slender/)

Quote
UPDATES (v0.9.7)
----------------
*  Added a subtitle to the game ("The Eight Pages") to differentiate it from future versions.
*  Improved main menu and added music to it.  Also now includes links to Slender Man info and YouTube series.
*  Added different light sources (unlocked after beating the game once).
*  Added shadows (not especially noticeable except in lit areas).
*  Your jogging speed now increases gradually as more pages are collected.
*  Removed the cooldown for stamina recovery after jogging/sprinting, and reduced the stamina drain rate.  When
you start jogging/sprinting, however, it immediately deducts 5% of your stamina.  This will allow you to jog or
sprint for a much longer period of time, but makes repeated taps of the jog/sprint button cause your stamina
to drain very quickly (effectively getting rid of a former exploit).
*  The maximum distance you can see decreases as you collect more pages; this is to keep the challenge similar
for people who have fog turned off.  For the same reason, Distance Shade can no longer be turned off.
*  Added a menu option to automatically skip the intro.
*  Added a pause feature, but you can only pause if there's no static (which prevents you from pausing the game
in response to seeing the Slender Man).
*  Fixed a bug where the flashlight would try to illuminate a page on the other side of a wall.
*  Removed one of the hidden modes (it was only a matter of time, since it contained copyrighted material).
