Title: Robot wars Extreme Destruction and Arenas of Destruction on windows 10
Post by: jackster96 on August 22, 2016, 06:43:04 AM
So when I tried installing these and running them on windows 10 in compatibility mode they just wouldn't load up or start, there any fixes or resolutions to get them working?

Yes there is :) You need to crack them. Just search for Robot Wars Arenas of Destruction and Robot Wars Extreme Destruction crack, and that'll solve the problem. I am running Windows 10 also, and it has issues with the copy protection of the disc (that requires the disc inserted when you start the game) and that's "half" broken in Windows 10. So, the only way to bypass this is by a no-cd crack :)

I hate to dig this old thread up again, but RW:AoD isn't working on my Windows 10 machine, and installing the patch didn't help. Any advice?

Try running it ad an admin.
If that fails, VM time!

Update to my other post right there, you CAN avoid using crack but you need a secdrv.sys file and place it inside your "Windows\System32\drivers" directory. By doing that, and restarting by holding down shift when pressing "restart", and then choose "advanced start" or whatever it says in English (I'm Swedish ;)).

Then, after it restarts, it'll ask you what option you want. Either press the "7" key, or "F7", then it will boot up into the lock screen, and you will be able to run with either DAEMON Tools or Alcohol 120% the game you want

Okay so I have tried the no-cd crack for AOD and it doesn't work for me unfortunately as the game just loads a white box and stops responding instantly (running as admin and using it on compatibility mode)

Did you place the secdrv.sys file in your "/Windows/System32/drivers" directory? After doing so, you must restart your computer like I said in my previous post, and select the seventh option, every time you want to play the Robot Wars games, which is the same procedure with almost any game of that era. Here's the file you need. (https://1drv.ms/u/s!ApLSCpwG0n6xgqFh3HsyWFLottTOig?e=KJiE3F) Place it in that directory (/Windows/System32/drivers), and restart your computer, while holding down shift, then choose the appropriate option. I think you can do it. BUT if you get stuck, shoot me a private message, or simply reply here, and I'll do my best to help you out.

Pretty sure it's the sound settings. The sound provider shouldn't be "RAD Game Tools RSX 3D Audio", that's what gives awful FPS (frames per second) when having a lot going on in the arena. Set it rather to "DirectSound 3D Software Emulation", that's what I choose

I had the same problem
The way I got them both to work was to right click on the application and go into properties, then the operating system to windows 95 or xp
They both work fine for me

DP:
If anyone has these problems, you have to edit the App Properties.
For AoD, make sure it's this:

For ED, make sure it's this:

Hey skull kid, the fps issue worked out fine forgot to respond. But there is an issue with the ai not working bar when pushed into the CPZ so it seems to cause the HR AI to activate which in response the normal ai decides to work. got any fixes? also the game looks like sh** with everything on max also seems like partical effects for the most part aren't happening/working the only one that works is the armour breaking off?

Hmm... on which arena is this AI bug? I am mostly playing in the TV Studio, but I can't think of any bugs there. I've actually modded the "rwarenat.txt" which tells the game where the AI can drive and not drive. Coupled with the settings set correctly in the "global.dat", which is under the AI section of the "global.dat" file, I can change where the competitors "can" drive and where they can not drive :)

I am patiently awaiting your reply, no rush!

Hey, while this is a topic, might as well throw my hat into the ring-

I've got the actual game on CD! Put it in, installed it, installed the no-CD patch, made my first bot, went to play on TV Studio... None of the AI move. In fact, they only move when I go into the CPZ. Any fixes/suggestions?

I had this issue recently, I think I fixed it by capping the game's framerate to 60fps but I'm not entirely certain. Give it a go.

What Badger said! I've experienced this issue in other games as well. Some games just doesn't like more than a certain amount of frames per second. If that's not the issue, I will reply later during the day, as I've been up most of the night tonight making a new YouTube video... nighty night!

Bit of a late reply this i know haha, yeah the ai is a bit special on each of the maps and only work once they go into the CPZ's and the house robots kick in seemingly kick starting the opponent ai. Graphic wise the main thing that is missing is the yellow sparks these only show up once every other match so hits with some of the discs and axes do damage but have no feedback.

Thank you.

I can't seem to get either of the games running in windowed mode in DxWnd. It worked fine in say half a year ago… now it just crashes with the Windows crash dialog showing up sending information about the crash to Microsoft.

So, if anybody here knows or has any ideas of what it might or could be, please do not hesitate to reply!

The server could be gone. That usually causes a game to crash.

I'm sorry, but this is a single player game only. With "hotseat" support for two player's with either two gamepads or one keyboard for both.

EDIT: Nevermind, I solved it.

Not checked for a long time and might be remembering wrong. but i'm sure you can select one for the keyboard and one as a controller if you both don't want to use keyboard? Was it an easy fix for the issue you was having?

Yes. I changed some feature that I at the moment sadly don't remember. But I know it was in the "Video" tab of DxWnd, and that it was from SVGA -> Native :)
