This thread is for writing little "articles" (or whatever you want to call it) about games that you would recommend to others.
Example (and one of mine)
Retro Game Challenge
Console: DS
Based off the Japanese TV show Game Center CX, this game takes you back to the 8 bit era of gaming. There are 8 fake Famicom (NES) games, like shooters, racing games, and platformers, with different challenges to complete, (like beat level four without dying, or complete track 2 in less than 2:09). To complete these challenges, there are in-game magazines that can be read to learn tricks and tips. They also add a bit of humor, poking fun at games from the time. A sequel is already released in Japan, taking place in the 16-bit era. It will most likely not make it out of Japan. The perfect title for any retro game fan!

Pokemon Heart Gold/SoulSilver
Console: DS
Based off of the old games for the GameBoy Colour. This is a must buy for any serious Pokemon gamer. It brings the magic of the DS to the old games and gives them a new life. They live better than ever with fresh new colours and great, smooth battles. Battle your Rival, Gym Leaders and win the Pokemon League in two regions. Interact with Pokemon; raise them to become a top trainer!

BUMP
Toy Soldiers
Platform: XBLA
Rating: E
If you love tower defense games, and little army men, you'll love this! You take control of either a WWI British or German army in a diorama located in a kid's room. Waves of enemies come to try to make it into your toybox. To prevent this, you must build up your defenses, with over 50 units are at your disposal, from machine gun turrets to tanks. You can play through the campaign, or fight online via Xbox Live.
-
Dark Messiah Of Might and Magic
Platform: PC
Dark Messiah is a First person sword RPG. Quite fun, with a variety of puzzles to solve and plenty of enemies to fight, from orcs to cyclops, from the black gaurd to Palkais (degenerate dragons)
http://store.steampowered.com/app/2100/ (http://store.steampowered.com/app/2100/)
Demo is there as well.

Starc..... wait you would be expecting that one *walks back into shadows*

If you haven't played Half Life 2, remove thine head from thine posterior.

I havn't.

Hotel Dusk, Room 215
Platform:
Nintendo DS
A mystery thriller-game set in the 1970's, you play Kyle Hyde, a shady for-hire with a dark and troubling past. After checking in to the titular establishment, Hyde discovers that this roach motel is crawling with something else entirely: secrets. The guests are shady, the staff are suspicious, and you've got one night to make sense of everything.
This game covers all the bases of the Interactive Story, with puzzles, items, and plenty of dialogue. A must-have for fans of the genre, you can easily snag a copy on eBay for less than $20.
-
I havn't.
Well your missing a lot.
It's one of the best (arguably the best) single player FPS's made to date.
-
Nothing can beat Doom 3. NOTHING :0
-
For the people who like RTS.
One I would suggest is Earth 2150 Lost souls or any other from its set, different game play those who have played impossible creatures would feel a little at home with the unit creation part. I'll leave you to find more details.
Plat form: PC
Another one I would suggest is Total annihilation, very old game, more than 16 years ago old and if it had bin given the chance would of ranked near star craft "looks at Joeblo" also its still alive hear is the link to its forms http://www.tauniverse.com/ (http://www.tauniverse.com/)
Plat form: PC
Theres 2 of my favs and I got more but don't want to take others ideas.

It's actually quite possible. I've seen many critics regard Half Life 2 as one of the top games of all time, second only games like the original Super Mario Brothers, Donkey Kong, and PacMan.
-
Yet ive seen Half life 2 (my friend has it) and it really didn't interest me....
It's all a matter of opinoin though

True, but seeing it isn't playing it.
I originally got it just so I could get Garry's Mod. I figured I'd play it very rarely since I normally dislike single-player campaigns. I gave the game a try, and about 3-4 hours in when I finally had to stop playing to go to bed my opinion had completely changed.
It is VERY worth trying. Sure, it's old, but it's still awesome.
Oh and if you do feel like giving it a try and get interested in source in general, steer clear of Garry's Mod. You'll waste more of your life on that game than you would on any other.
-
I allready have Garrys Mod :P
But my first source game was Dark messiah of might and magic.
-
Might I make a suggestion that you recommend only games that other people might not know about (like Dark Messiah, I haven't heard of that). I think most people know about games like Pokemon, Halo, Half-Life, etc. and most people who would want to play them, have.
Now,
Golden Sun/Golden Sun: The Lost Age
Platform: Game Boy Advance
Undoubtedly the best RPG I've played (and I've played several). It doesn't do anything radical, it doesn't break any new ground, but it does everything an RPG is supposed to do, and it does it excellently. The graphics are good enough for a DS game (and still better than many!), the story is engaging and involves a few unexpected twists, the dungeon design is brilliant with many cleverly crafted puzzles, the music is memorable and distinctive, it's long and it's challenging (some of the secret bosses are truly diabolical), and there is a plethora of items and abilities to get (you could easily spend a year just trying to acquire all of them). It even has a multiplayer battle mode, a rarity for RPG's. The ONLY thing I can think of that could possibly be called a shortcoming is that the game doesn't give players much incentive to play with the class-change system--the default classes seem to work best. (Or perhaps I just haven't found the right strategies to use.) But the sheer awesomeness that is 99% of this game overwhelms any possible complaint. And now is the perfect time to find a copy on eBay or something and play it, with Golden Sun: Dark Dawn scheduled to come out on DS.
(Fun fact: the Golden Sun games are the only RPGs that I have fully played through twice. If I had more free time I'd even play through a third time.)
(I sound like an advertisement, don't I?)
-
Golden sun sounds like a pretty good game. I'll definetly have a look for it.

Champions Online for PC.
Champions Online is an MMORPG with amazing character customization and fun gameplay. Imagine a MMORPG where you build your own class! your able to take powers from any powerset you want, want to build a gun slinging sorcerer? you can! and you can even pick the colors of your powers, don't like the default red fire on your fire skills? well you can change it with the color silder to whatever you like.
The game Features both PvE and PvP, battle Super Villians inside and outside lairs, help people in need and more in PvE or battle other champions in an array of hero games each of which has its own style of gameplay and arena.
Free expansions! that's right Champions Online is the first MMO to release free expansions that are known as adventure packs to it's players. These packs feature brand new content such as new lairs/super villians, new missions/story arcs, new costume pieces and more!

very awesome game indeed.
i say Killing Floor for PC.
it's a Co-op survival horror running on the old UT2004 engine (not a big surprise if you know this first was just a mod for UT2004). works well and is quite challenging.

I'll chip in here. =D
Micro Maniacs (PsOne, Codemasters)
In essence, Micro Maniacs is a racing game, with various different tracks, but instead of cars, you have people. Some of whom who are extremely bizarre, such as Twister, a demented clown with an obsession for yo-yos, and Mesme, an eight-year old, balding, telekinetic mute girl. Each of the characters has two special attacks which you can use to slow down or take out your opponents, which vary in their applications. To use these attacks, you have to collect some strange floating orbs along the tracks, some of which are in the middle of the road, some slight off the beaten path. You can also earn upgrades for the characters' attacks by taking them through a "Challenge" mode. Or you could race in a "VS Mode", where you have to outrun the other racers to earn points. 36 tracks, 12 characters, endless laughs. And four hidden cheat modes for even more lunacy.

EPIC ON-TOPIC BUMP
Radiant Historia.
If I've seemed less active in RA2 lately, that's the game to blame. :P I thought about making a new thread for it but figured there wouldn't be a whole lot to discuss about it, so instead I'll just post here and extol its virtues recommend it.
It's a pretty traditional RPG with a few big twists... the biggest one being that you can time travel to almost any point in the game's timeline and replay events. Ever been faced with a choice in an RPG, so you saved beforehand, picked one option, then reset and picked the other option to see what would happen? (Don't lie, you all have.) It's exactly like that, except you can do it legitimately in-game and you carry over all your items and experience. And this game has a lot of choices in it so you'll be doing a lot of time traveling (backwards and forwards or side to side between parallel timelines).
The battle system is really fun and innovative too... it forces you to actually use your special techniques even against regular enemies (spamming Attack won't work except against very weak enemies) but at the same time it isn't too difficult or annoying. The battles are a bit on the easy side so far with the right tactics (I haven't yet had anyone KO'd) but I'm hoping they get harder later in the game.
And I'm not even halfway through according to the game's event counter so I can't truly judge the story, but so far it's the best I've seen in a game.
Graphics and music are excellent too... heck, everything about this game is top notch.
So yeah... just updating you on my latest distraction. Anyone who likes RPG's should buy this game. Unless you have stuff you want to finish in RA2; then you might want to hold off for a bit. ;)

9 Doors 9 Hours 9 Persons for the Nintendo DS. I know I ranted about not getting to have sex with the dancer, but I'm being serious now, it is an incredible game.
If you're a fan of stories, puzzles, and point and click adventures meets survival horror, this game is for you. One reviewer summed it up perfectly, "Professor Layton meets Saw."
You're Junpei, and you get abducted into the Nonary Game. Now you and your eight companions have just 9 hours to escape (not real time mind you, the time goes by as events get triggered). The aim is not hard to figure out - search the room for clues and solve the puzzle.
I'm a sucker for a good storyline, and that's where the game really shines. The 9 characters appear to be little more that mold-fitting archetypes, but as you progress you realize that they are all a lot deeper than that (the dancer is a good example). It's a gripping storyline, very professionally written, and even the most minor of details gets addressed by the end. There are multiple endings BTW, you'll be forced to branch off at points and steer the plot as you see fit. Three of the endings are easy to get by just bumbling around, but the others you will have to really work for to figure out the right path. (there are hints to those right paths, subtle but undeniable)
For anyone who doesn't like a lot of reading, stay away. The cutscenes are long and will account for most of the time you clock. You have to play through the game 5 times minimum to get all the endings, and that means replaying the same parts a lot. You can fast forward but not skip through cutscenes you've already seen, and you can't skip puzzles at all. Also you only get one save file, so if you find you've strayed onto the wrong path (like an ending you've already gotten), your only choices are to suck it up and finish, or go back to the beginning.
Still, the endings are a rewarding bounty to playing through, so if you play videogames for the storyline like I do, then this your game.

Age Of Empires 2
Was officially the best RTS before Starcraft 2; smooth play, actually educational, and a whole host of cheats. Naturally the buildings are completely disproportionate to the people, and generally it has a smooth and relevant style and some very good campaigns.
-
Lock's Quest (Underated tower defense game with an ace plot. The graphics are done in a nice retro style, and it really works well. The top screen is rarely even used.)
Tony Hawk's Underground 2 (Great soundtrack and really keeps you busy, as well as having a neat storyline and quite an in-depth editor(Loved the Custom Park Maker))
Super Castlevania IV (Only got to play it about an hour ago, but oh my god. For the SNES, the graphics are truly beautiful, and it just shows off what the SNES is capable of)
Gran Turismo 2 (By god is this game awesome. Great soundtrack, a plethora of cars to choose from, some really smooth controls and one of the most rewarding games ever)
Final Fantasy III (Last good final fantasy before it turned all emo. Beautiful graphics and one of the few RPG's I actually like (Other than Chrono Trigger))
Age Of Mythology (Took AoE2's ideas and ran with it. Great online community, some awesome custom maps (PickADestinyV4 was freakin' awesome) and some truly epic wars, as well as an awesome storyline)
-
Try to make it non-mainstream games (not popular and well known).

I HAVE THIS. We used to play this a LOT back in Higher Computing. When the teacher took sick leave, that was basically one month straight of Age Of Empires 2. Naturally I sucked.

Doom 2
It's a game where you kill demons 'n' sh**.
Plus it's dirt cheap on Steam.

Need for Speed Shift 2: Unleashed
Rating: E10+
Genre: simulation racing
It came out in my country about 2 months ago. It is awesome. There are more than 100 cars in this game. It is pretty realistic, complete with damage that is realistic. You can modify a car's appearance by changing the body shape and giving it awesome paint jobs. I'd rate it 4/5 stars. That's because the game is a little difficult.
-
Transport Tycoon just got a complete open-source release last month. It is still rather fun. Good little sandbox game similar to SimCity. I just downloaded it and started playing again. I used to love the original game back in '96.
Download is totally free. The author accepts donations.

Gotcha Force
Its an older Gamecube Game, of course, but you build your team of toy robots that do battle agenst the evil "Death Force"(which also consists of toy robots) in various scenarios where you fight to save the day. This game is fun as heck, and is loaded with all kinds of awesome characters who have there own unique abilitys. Your character selection consists of, but is not limited to: Dragons, ninjas, samurais, robots(even some transforming ones), giant spaceships, super heros, and all kinds of awesome. Your team combinations are limitless.
Seriously, go play it. Its a fun game.

The warriors
Great movie, and it's a very good adaption. It's made by rockstar, so you know it's gonna be good.
Also got some fun extras aswell.

I agree with Clickbeetles post about Golden Sun. One of the (or may THE) best GBA games of all time. Both of them. Great story, great gamplay, twists, puzzels and those cute jins who can give your character extra abilities when activated.
-
SKYROADS
YEYEYE
-
Robot Arena 2.. you guys should try it some time, I have a feeling you might like it..

Too bad Dark Dawn wasn't up to the same level... still a great game by other standards, but not as good compared to the original GBA titles.
Alas, it is the inviolable Law of Sequels: Sequels that are pre-planned from the beginning are at least as good, and possibly better than the original. Sequels that are not planned until after the original release can only be as good as the original, never better, and are often worse.
(Before you go citing exceptions at me, note the Law of Sequels only applies to intellectual properties with a continuous storyline. Mario and Zelda games don't count as they are all independent.)
On the plus side, that means the fourth Golden Sun game should be good. They were OBVIOUSLY planning a sequel with that "ending".
But if you're looking for good RPG's and you want to get into GS, start with the GBA games.
