Just thought I'd post this up as I've hardly seen anything on racing games here. Now the racing games I'm into are not the kind trying to recreate reality, I prefer the kind where you're trying to wipe your opponents off the road. This thread is here to post about those games and what are your favorites.
To be honest, any game where you can turn your opponent's cars from speed machines into scrap metal is good with me.

Absolutely FlatOut.
-
Flatout's controls are ass
-
Burnout. Totally. I think 3 is a good one to start with, although Paradise offers more modes.
-
not in FlatOut 2.
-
not in FlatOut 2.
thats the only one ive played, and it handles like total sh**
-
Or you just suck at it. FlatOut 1 has pretty derp controls.
-
FlatOut 2 has a much better control than 1, it's just that I'm not that much of a fan of the import tuner scene.
Thinking about my Underground phase just makes me shudder ._.
-
Destruction Derby and Flatout. Flatout gets the vote. Love the realistic handling.
-
I've always been a Burnout fan so I guess that one wins...
But I had Burnout on the DS and it was the most atrocious game ever. Still to this day the only game I've bought and traded in (apart from Rock Band which didn't work because I have GH instruments. Derp.)
-
Flatout 2 will always be dear to my heart. The car carnage is terrific.
Honorable Mentions go to:
Speed Devils
Burnout 2 and 3
Carmageddon 2
-
Burnout, heck yes.
-
Burnout Revene is a great game. Still fun years later.
NFS shift is the worst racing game I have ever played.
-
How has
anyone not only one person mentioned the shining king of destruction racers, Carmageddon?

NASCAR Game, but still lots of wreckability...

Because, Carmageddon is too awesome to be mentioned by mere mortals, fortunatly JD is immortal enough to mention it.

Just an example how crazy Destruction Derby Arenas can get.

As you can see, FlatOut is far more superior than Destruction Derby. :p
-
The first FlatOut will always be the better FlatOut.

Finally, someone that agrees.
I bought Flatout on a wim and have loved it since. I rented Flatout 2 one time and hated it from the start.

...You don't even wanna know what FlatOut 3 looks like. Bugbear sold FlatOut 2 for random game company and... You can guess the rest.

So the third Flatout sucks? I knew there was another, but it's not simply "Flatout 3".

It says it was only for Windows, but I know I've seen a Flatout game for Xbox 360.

Ultimate Carnage was basically the same as #2.

Just better graphics & 4 more drivers.

An example of how easily in Motorstorm your car can go from a pristine machine to a wad of twisted metal.

oh god yes
-
Finally got a glimpse of Flatout 3 and oh my god. That game is an embarrassment to the series, let alone racing games in general. The good news is Bugbear got wind of it and it seems they've decided to restore the Flatout series's name as they have been giving hints as to what their next game is.

Now here's a game that I wish would be remade. Now the Test Drive series is usually affiliated with high end sports cars but however in this one, it takes a complete U-turn. This is Test Drive: Eve of Destruction or to you guys in Europe Driven to Destruction.

The only thing really wrong with it in it's current form is the physics. Needs some softbody.
-
It does have some soft body to it, just not as extreme as Flatout's.

I mean more like RoR. Maybe a bit more rigid than that, but along the same lines.

actually some of the ror cars (if you know what the Gavril's are) would be perfect, like the Gavril Zeta, Gavril Bandit, and with a few tweaks the burnside series would be perfect too

This looks like it's gonna be one awesome game. The cars in the trailer were reminiscent of the Pepper and Speedevil from Flatout 1.

One time I used cheat codes for extra money to make Pepper the most badass car in the game. It was fun.

Fun fact about Test Drive: EOD, if you've ever played NASCAR: Dirt to Daytona, you may recognize some of the tracks and names of the drivers. That's because both games were developed by Monster Games. All the tracks you race on are tweaked versions of the ones you race on in the dirt and modified series in Dirt to Daytona and the names of the drivers are the same ones as the fictional drivers in said game.
If you wonder where Monster Games is now, they've been exclusively working with Nintendo for the past couple of years to create the Excite series, ei: Excite Truck, Excitebots: Trick Racing, and Excitebike: World Rally.
-
This is probably the best song to be playing whenever you're in a demolition derby in Flat Out 1. The title is kind of fitting if you think about it.

Ah. Brings me back the good ol' memories... 2004, 2005... *sigh*
I have FlatOut on my computer, so I could basically play it right now if I wanted. ^__^

Nice, me too. Got it on Steam from the Summer offer thing.

Nice. I hope to be adding Burnout Paradise to my Steam Library soon as well. That is so far the only one I have yet to play in the Burnout franchise. I tried getting it on the Gamestop app but it crashed even before I got to drive. :vista:
I also like some of the throwbacks to previous games such as the Big Surf theme from Burnout 2, known as Pass Me By in Burnout Paradise.

I adore Paradise. I used to play against friends in Gumball 3000 style races, hah. One side or corner of the map, to the other, with checkpoints - love it. 's just weird that I couldn't get A rank on 360, yet I did on PS3.
-
One of my favorite games from the PS2. Shame it didn't get much attention, let alone a sequel.

Quite possibly one of the greatest of the overlooked PS2 racing games, Rumble Racing. Actually a sequel to a PS1 game, NASCAR Rumble, it was a very high rated game and was praised by critics. Unfortunately, it was overlooked by many due to the likes of Gran Turismo 3 and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2.
