GOD DAMN YOU VALVE. WHERE IS MAH EPISODE THREEEEEEEEEE???

I was so excited when I heard of Valve's "big announcement" at E3 too...

It's not that I don't like Portal, it's just that I can't seem to forge the same bond that a lot of people have with that bloody companion cube.

is there a demo for portal somewhere ? Im considering coughing up the cash for it but don't want to waste my money.

and please no "its worth it I would just buy it" as its not your money :P

I would just buy it but my stores have a no returns policy for PC games if you just dont like them
Title: Re: Portal 2
Post by: Pwnator on July 01, 2010, 02:38:23 AM
Well, Valve made Portal free for a a few days a few weeks ago. Too bad you missed it.

I don't think they sell Portal alone. So far Portal's always included in The Orange Box, unless someone ripped it off and sold it on its own.
Title: Re: Portal 2
Post by: R0B0SH4RK on July 01, 2010, 03:07:34 AM
I picked up the Orange Box about a year ago for about $15 and it sat by my TV collecting dust for quite a while. Then, one day, I just decided to play Half-Life 2 and BAM Valve got me addicted.

It was totally worth the $15 xD

Post by: somestrangeguy on July 01, 2010, 05:43:35 AM
JoeBlo, you might wanna try Steam, you can get a demo of Portal there and at the moment Valve stuff are on 33% off sale.

Damn you Serge!
I was just about to make a thread about that!

Portal was the best game I`ve ever played and Portal 2 looks just awesome but much harder than Portal 1. The plants and stuff reminds me a bit on Jurassic Park. Can`t wait for that.
Title: Re: Portal 2
Post by: JoeBlo on July 02, 2010, 02:30:28 AM
well the demo was taking to long to download and a local store advertised portal 1 for 50% off so I just brought it

steam is updating it now, it looks like a cool game Im just sometimes unsure when there is no return policy like the console games.
Title: Re: Portal 2
Post by: Pwnator on July 02, 2010, 03:20:48 AM
Portal 2 looks harder at a first glance simply because you haven't played the intro to the tough stuff yet. It's not like GlaDOS is gonna include turrets in the first level. :P

Title: Re: Portal 2
Post by: Pwnator on July 02, 2010, 04:07:27 AM
If you're hungry for more, download Portal: Prelude. It's a free downloadable mod that needs a legit copy of Portal to work. Which mean's you can see it crap more awesome later. :P
Title: Re: Portal 2
Post by: somestrangeguy on July 02, 2010, 04:10:55 AM
Precisely, Portal Prelude is an awesome mod made by a small group of people, wich is placed before the events of Portal, but it starts out harder than Portal, so you should complete Portal first.
Title: Re: Portal 2
Post by: powerrave on July 04, 2010, 08:54:46 AM
Portal is freaking awesome! now can't wait for Portal 2.
Portal Prelude is also awesome.

You don't need gmod.

Open the dev console, type 'sv_cheats 1' and press enter, type 'noclip' and press enter, close the dev console and then fly to the cake.

Pretty simple actually.

I will get it for the extra platforms too, as long as you pre ordered it, you get extra skins.

And appearently different stores give different skins, looks like Scandinavia + German Amazon has the best one so far. Others didnt show their skins if any exist for them.

Steam are usually generous because they know they don't think things through. I had to reload Portal onto my computer because it died, and I needed to reactivate it using my Steam account. WHY DO I NEED THE INTERNET TO USE IT? WHY DO I NEED A STEAM ACCOUNT TO USE IT? I shouldn't have to, but Steam don't think it through. So, yeah, getting it on PS3 means you get it on your Steam account on the PC. Woo-pee-doo.

yes, why do you need internet to download updates and such? what is that logic that Steam uses? oh wait, same logic i use. of course you need internet to use an online function. Steam is actually very good and pretty handy. don't know why you are so negative about it.
and heck yeah having it on 2 platforms! awesomeness!

Firstly, I meant 'Why do I need to have a computer connected to the internet as well as a steam account in order to play this game which isn't about online gameplay?'

Secondly, I meant that that picture was wrong because the Portal gun was on the wrong arm - the left arm. I looked at the actual trailer, and it should be on the right.

Such a great game o: the cut scenes lag so bad on my crappy laptop and everything's a little delayed but I'm working through it, for science.

GLaDOS saw a deer once. o: (Yeah, only just past that bit)

Best game I've ever played though, even with lag.

One repulsion gel one was, and so was the excursion funnel one, albeit with a different look

Also, one aerial faith plate one got in

I have to say though, the only bit i was disappointed about was that there was only one personality core. I know they had good reason to cut the other 5, but I was still disappointed... (even if
)

(the developer commentary is very interesting though)

It's technically better, but I actually prefer SA. This applies to the whole game, actually. Portal 2 is better, and I enjoyed the story more, but the tests seemed a chore so I could learn more
Of the story, especially Wheatly's ones. I never felt SA was a chore.

I will play Portal 2 more, but Still Alive was more fun for me. The co-op in P2 is great, though.

Portal 2 is more difficult to make a Machinima of, though, because there is more talking throughout it. I know this from experience because I'm trying to script it right now.

^ #2 is waaay more epic.

Anyways, my sister and I pounded through the DLC in an evening. Wasn't overly impressed with the story and the dialogue/writing wasn't really up to par with the rest of the game IMO. The puzzles were a lot of fun, however. They were a lot more timing-based than the ones that shipped with the game. I'd give it a B.

No, you DO want the other games. If you haven't played through the HL2 series, the Orange Box is a must get. All of the HL2 games are far better than Portal 1.

The only thing Portal 2 is holding up is my completion of Assassins Creed.. which is holding up completion of AC2.. which is holding up completion of Motorstorm.. which is holding up completion of PR.. which is holding up completion of Apocalypse.. which is... you get the picture..

Backlash is actually planned to have the first official beta done this weekend..Cant make promises but thats what is planned.. then I can pull it apart and make a public tech demo out of it..

Ditto.
The somewhat-post-apoc design of the earlier lab sections were so awesome.
Though personally, my favorite section is the old lab area.

Though personally, my favorite section is the old lab area.

The 2 old Apeture labs are awesome too.. I wasnt expecting piles of brightly coloured goo in a ran down old lab with piles of keep out signs

I want to play CoOp the first time with someone who hasnt played CoOp before either so they dont know all the puzzle solutions..

Then I will freely play with anyone else..

But I dont think I will play any CoOp until I buy a headset.. seems pretty hard without one..

On another note Just activated and cued it up on Steam to download it on my PC too  :gawe:

They also give you a code for downloading a PC version..

They give you a "ping tool". You just point at stuff, ping with it, and it sort of tells your partner what to do.

I'll give you a heads up. The puzzles are easy.

Yea, Wheatley goes on for another 1 or so about reasons why you should jump into the pit.
Boys who don't care if you have brain damage, new jumpsuit, your parents, an elevator to the surface, heck, even a pony farm.

Though you can steal him in one of GlaDOS' early test rooms when he pokes his head out the wall :P

Nope, he just loks around the room and at you.

Yes you can drop him, he also doesn't get destroyed by the Emancipation Grill. But if you take  him into the elevator with you, he won't be with you in the next room.

In the test chamber with the companion cube, you can steal him again. This time it's more effective, since you can use him to stop the laser.

Depending on how much freedom they give you, this might turn out to be a ridiculous idea.

Knowing the IQ of a lot of the players, custom stages will range anywhere from IWBTG, to Super Bros Stage 1-1(In terms of difficulty, and appearance)

True, one thing I wish would happen though is that we can use the levels already created from the Hammer Editor. Some are just and I kinda get the feeling it would be impossible to recreate it in the new level editor (I.E. Portal Playground)

So yea... If they really DO give you so much freedom in Portal 2's level-editor, you can expect a lot of joke levels that are literally impossible.

Yes, they implemented steam into the PS3 version of the game, so you get Steam Chat, Friends, etc and can invite to join multiplayer instead of being just restricted to PSN,

Apparently XBL was to problematic to do the same.

The single player wasnt too hard, just longer than the first game and all about finding the one spot you can place a portal.

The real puzzles were in the co-op mode and now with the upcoming level editor, they are going to get really wild.

Yea, Portal 2 really tends to auto-pilot the puzzles, as they just generally point out where to fire and what-not.
Unlike Portal 1, where you actually had to know how and when to shoot.

Regardless, Portal 2 is more fun mostly because of the Co-op

they are going to get really wild.
I'm expecting LOTS of IWBTG-esque designs.

I dunno', if it's anything like Megaman Powered Up, the stages will either be ridiculously hard, or literally impossible because some dumbass didn't test his/her stage.

Though it does seem really hilarious if you DELIBERATLY made a bottomless pit for a stage, just to cause rage all over the place.
