But that's cheaty.
And you can legitimately obtain a Lv. 100 Magikarp in Platinum--I've done it before. Just fish with the Super Rod at the Resort Area (post-game only).

I gave up on a shiny snorunt after 1000 or so, then gave up on shiny tyrunt after about 400...

However I did get a shiny noibat (which is the one I wanted the most) after 300. Good luck with that :P

Starly doesn't need Double Edge. All Starly needs is:

Item: Focus Sash
Moves: Endeavor and Quick Attack

Helps to be level 1 and not against ghost types

because otherwise you would miss out on the mega stone as well

actually i think zygarde and the legendary birds follow this mechanic as well unless game freak actually punishes people for not using false swipe :<

Quick Balls are your friend. Caught Xerneas and Zygarde with them, along with quite a few other things. Sure it may take a few tries, but it is easier to throw two balls and soft reset than to try to whittle it down (or False Swipe with a level 100 something) and throw a million Ultra Balls.

For Zygarde you have been very lucky to get it with a quick ball, but Xerneas and Yveltal are easy to catch.

Am I the only one who challenges myself to catch legendary Pokemon with premier balls? I caught Yveltal in premier ball and did catch Mewtwo but soft reset 'cause I didn't like the nature (so really I've caught it 3 times now)
