Title: Nuzlocke Red

So, I am starting a nuzlocke in Pokémon Red.

So, choices. Rival's name, trainer name, and what pokémon to choose ?

Rules are:

-Only first pokémon in an area can be caught.
-If pokémon faints, it must be boxed permanently.

the point is of course to get the manliest team when you fight elite four.

I once did a nuzlocke, it was hard but one tip I would say is to pick pokemon which are supereffective to most other pokemon, as well as having pokemon which are resistant to the most types, hope that helped

Beat DICKS's Charmander. Was pretty close.

Grind up Pidgey and Metapod? I cant see them getting much training for now so I'd just get everyone to level 10 and then take on the gym

Alright, so am continuing my grinding. Out of PP, there.

Much dead kakunas and weedles. Mostly kakunas. Hopefully, emulator's good for speeding up the game.

Also, bulbasaur is good for absorbing all these Poison Stings.

Amusingly, I haven't seen a single Caterpie out there, even though my first Viridian Forest was a metapod ?

Metapod lvl7, Bulbasaur lvl11, Pidgey lvl8

Edit: Moved to Elite 4 road. Caught a Nidoran male, hell yeah ! Now that's something that is a proper pokémon. Trained him a bit, And hey look who's there...

It's DICKS !

So he obviously challenges me to a battle. I wonder whose level are his pokés.

Ok, so he first challenges me with his Pidgey. I leech seed his ass. Then attack him a bit with bulbasaur, then send pidgey. First pidgey falls. Did I mention Leech Seed is awesome ?

Then sends his charmander, level 8. I send Bulbasaur, wary of Ember. But he doesn't even use it  :rage and then he never used it. So, leech seed's still working, then I whack him against with Bulbasaur and send Pidgey after, to finish him.

Get nice XP out of it, though no level ups.

Then I go heal cuz half of my fighting pokés are under 50% HP.

Team at current -
King, level 7 Nidoran male
Bulbasaur, level 12 and still only 3 attacks.
Shiny, level 9 Pidgey. Still no additional attacks than the normal thing.
Derp, level 6 Metapod. Didn't even use harden.

So, lost my Nidoran to some random pidgey because of fast forwarding battles, trashed Viridian Forest then Brock, and now in that route to Mt. Moon Zubat Land.

Metapod has evolved into Butterfree, still no attacks learned though :O

Doing a no-poke-centre run is pretty fun, if your nuzlocke isn't hard enough for you. You can only heal via potions and can only use the poke-centre when you're on full HP (to recover PP). Grinding becomes very interesting with all the PP management.

Well, grinded viridian forest all day (mfw @ all these dead kakunas).

Then schooled Brock who didn't even do any damage to me, what a joke of a boss. Defense Curl spam and Bide+Screech, lol ?

Then went towards Zubat Land. Butterfree learned confusion at level 12. Well.

I wanted to caught a Spearow in that route, i mean Fearow is pretty badass, but my Pidgey oneshotted it. With Gust. Yea.

Now am at the Pokémon Center next to mount moon. The question is...

Nothing much. A horde of zubats attacks me as soon as I enter. I take a ladder. Then a paras happens by, then another ladder.

Hell of an introduction buddy, am pretty scared.

Sandshrew gets murdered by bulbasaur. Who I should train more, by the way. Butterfree's getting all the kills in mt moon.

Then another zubat comes. As if I didn't killed enough !

And I continue on my merry way.

I use my rare candy on Queen, which promptly evolves. And I also have a moon stone. Do it... don't... oh well, here's for a Nidoqueen in mount moon.

Now another rocket, another zubat. Queen has improved much in power.

edit: Well... A LEVEL 16 RATICATE ? SRSLY ?

My Butterfree falls. Rest of my team is heavily damaged (except for the karp). Can't exactly go back, no potions. Only pokémon with decent health is Ivysaur. Pidgey's critically wounded, same with Queen, Butterfree dead, and the karp is still useless.

Then I decide to go for it. **** it, I'll better die than fail.

Defeat more rockets with a half dead team, see them kill more of my team. Take dome fossil (alpha male status acquired), see Venusaur and Pidgey die. Too bad didn't took any pictures. Survive by luck and careful use of Leech Seed.

Team - slaughtered. Only two live. Nidoqueen, and the karp. Nidoqueen at 3 HP. Seriously. Very glad I taught it Mega Punch.

Didn't honestly think I could even survive. This is both awesome and terrifying.

Part 5: On the art of rebuilding an army.

So, here was I in cerulean, half-dead. After healing and loading on potions, and dropping Shiny, Bulbasaur and Derp (butterfree) I went to the nearby accessible routes.

Caught a pidgey. Named it Swift. Trained it for a while, then after the nugget bridge north of Cerulean I caught a fearow. Named it Drill.

Both promptly died before Bill's house. Well, screw that, using my Nidoqueen instead.

Yeah after a point it started to be overleveled. Then I went to the daycare, caught a pidgey, named it Windstrike and dropped my 'karp in the daycare. He needs to evolve and my Nidoqueen is starting to get overleveled.

Went for a trip in Goldenrod City. Caught an oddish somewhere... I don't remember much where ? I think it was on goldenrod... named it Weed Eater.

Meanwhile, I abuse the emulator fast-mode repetitive trips next to the daycare  :p and then after some grooming...

BEHOLD, FOR NARYAR IS BACK IN THE GAME.

Then I taught him aqua gun. Seems like a poor attack but out of 100 Special it works. Also, bite is awesome on Gyarados.

Then somewhere next to that my pidgey evolved. Well.

Went in the diglett cave, grinded moar (pidgeotto get another attack already damn it you're level 26 :mad:) killed one before I could catch it, but hell Diglett Cave is awesome training for Flying pokémon.

And then back to Cerulean city. Time to do me some misty.

"Queen" Nidoqueen - Mega Punch, Body Slam, Scratch, Poison Sting
Good old nidoqueen. Still very solid, and a nice attacker, also holds quite well. Though Poison is kinda weak defensively in gen1.

"Windstrike" Pidgeotto - Quick Attack, Hurricane (sh**tiest attack ever), Gust, Leer or whatever useless attack it gets
Quick, decent attacker. Quick Attack is awesome.

"Agony" Gyarados - Bite, Tackle, Splash (**** yea, Splash Gyarados), Water Gun (it is good right ?!!1)
Pretty rape in offense. Also not bad in special offense.

"Weed Eater" Oddish - Absorb, Stun Spore, Sleep Powder, PoisonPowder
Status inducer. Stun Spore + Absorb or Sleep Powder + Absorb is pretty good. Maybe I need more attacks though.

So, I enter Misty's gym. They say she is a tomboyish mermaid. Well, we'll see about who is manlier.

Weed Eater ! I choose you !

So, both trainers fall before my might.

Then I challenge Misty. She says she prefers an all-out offensive with water pokémon... Good strategy ! Now let's put it to test !

And then I accidentally used Splash. I feel dirty. Oh, well, just learned dragon rage.

And then I fight two gentlemen, who are being unusually rude for gentlemen. Eh.

Then all the sailors, who are... rowdy. Well, I'm rowdier than them.

Also all these tentacools aaah, hell at least it's not easy XP like a horsea..

And then that's when I promptly slaughter Surge with my nidoqueen. Three body slam hits. He didn't even get a hit on me.

Get real, lieutenant.

And now I move to the road east of Cerulean. Random trainer attacks me.

"You have Pokémon ! You're mine !"

I don't think so, girl.

More trash trainers for me to brutally slaughter. Well, Khorne always demands blood.

Also a bug catcher with a level 20 caterpie. What next, a level 30 magikarp ?

And look, grass. A new thing. A new pokémon ! An ekans !

...That's a damn lot of Poison types in the team. Oh, well. Also, it's level 15. Meh. Call him Hemotoxin.

Part 7 - Overly Long Rock Cave, Lavender Town, Team Rocket... and more

So, here I am trying to go through that rock cave. Got careless against a Slowpoke and got Hemotoxin killed, oh well. It's not like I haven't got enough poison types in the team anyway.

Too much trainers, too long dungeon, too much going around in the dark. Bah.

Got also the opportunity to use more of my TM's cuz half my pokémon were out or nearly out of PP. Taught gyarados thunderbolt, machop dig, and nidoqueen bubblebeam.

Seems I'm out of rock cave... yes I am.

So, more trainers to kick the ass of before I go to lavender down.

"Hey kid, wanna see my Pokémon ?"

So, here to lavender town. I do suppose I should go see the name rater. And the pokémon center.

Also, seems the rockets killed a pokémon. Why do I care ? I killed more.

Then fought giovanni. My pidgeotto was nearly killed by one of his guards, but not really a boss fight.

Part 8 - Or how to run out of breath with a flute.

So, here I was at pokémon tower, with the scope slyphe.

I go up. Oh, here's a gastly. Well, I caught him. Call him Vlad, welcome it into the team. Parafusion much ?

Climb some more. The level 30 marowak nearly killed my nidoqueen, but I lived. Yea. These gastlys are honestly more annoying than the zubats.

Then went to kill some rockets, received the Pokéflute.

Yay, no more awakenings needed.

I go downwards after that to catch the snorlax. Then needing to train my Gastly I fight him against the weak fishermen here.

Then I fell on a poliwag.

It proceeds to use hypnosis on my gastly.

I use the pokéflute.

Then it uses again an hypnosis. And doesn't fail. Me uses pokéflute again.

Then promptly becomes a chain of pokéflute and hypnosis, with only sometimes hypnosis missing and me spamming the pokéflute (and getting increasingly "WTF ?)

Seriously, 15 uses of hypnosis and only three or so failed. I was also visibly slower than the poliwag so I couldn't even get a confuse ray on. GRRR POLIWAG I HATE POLIWAG GRRR.

Then went downwards. Using gastly parafusion. Nothing much done.

I then fall on the snorlax. Wake up, get him damaged, manage to avoid Rest by putting it to sleep myself, and then caught him. Called him Lionheart.

Eh, it's good that I get a snorlax. Will see how it develops.

Going downwards, after going in Goldenrod for a bit.

... Wait, a level 29 voltorb ? Against level 21 gastly ? That's dangerous.

wait, he's just light screen'ing.

Well, this is funny, since Light Screen is Psychic he only used that. And a level 29 electrode killed by vlad as well, the little guy's growing well !

Got a super rod, let's try fishing somewhere I didn't catch anything.

Caught a level 5 tentacool :(

And then I fight a nidoran and nidorino. More devastation of pokémon who can't do anything to me despite being 7 levels higher than my gastly, and no Poison Sting doesn't count.

edit: ahaha a level 24 'karp, actually 2 of them... free xp !

Here I find an iron. Give it to gastly, don't think it's going to change much.

And then more grass, gonna see what's in it. I hope it's intredasting... and it's a venomat. Eh, there's honestly worse. So I catch him, send it to the PC. It's actually the first pokémon that I catch with a full party.

vlad just gained 666 xp, lol

And then another poliwag. Oh, no, not this sh** again. Switching to nidoqueen, trying Horn Drill, doesn't work. Oh well.

Then attacked the messy labyrinth of wooden pillar, bridge of thoughts or something.

Much bird keepers, Gyarados spent almost all his thunderbolts on them. Zzapp !

The irony is that one gave me advice to use TM's on my pokémon, looololol

And now another part of grass. Time to catch something here. Let's see what it is... an oddish, how useless :p

Up to fuschia now. Maybe I should catch something in the safari zone.

Failed that, now catching something in the road nearby... a raticate, why not ? Caught that, up to the PC.

Well, done with this update, it was a small one. I know I must go fetch that gold tooth in the safari, but yea.

Part 9, Koga and the Safari Zone

So, back to goldenrod. Where do I get my Bike ? I don't remember :p

I dropped my Gastly up to the daycare. Now back to saffron, by the eastern path. Didn't beat all trainers here so there's that.

I fall on a bird keeper, and then I am exposed to double-edge. Pidgeotto ain't too damaged though.

More grass pokémon against my Gloom. Well, time to train.

lol stop spamming poisonpowder against gloom ivysaur, it seems the gen 1 AI just considers the first type when selecting moves...

Vlad evolved. Got a haunter now.

And it has an awesome cry and a scary face, **** yes.

Part 11 - Cinnabar Island and Saffron City Gym - More Fall Before My Might

So, up to cinnabar. Sea trip was uneventful, just a few level 5 tentacools.

Got an Aerodactyl and a Kabuto. Not sure about using them now.

 The arena is closed. Gonna see in the pokémon mansion.

Fall on a koffing first. Was hoping for a growlithe. Gonna catch it, but not useful D: also someone got poisoned.

Damn it, I need a Fire type or an Electric type. Oh, right, I remember, the switches are in the statues.

More nonsense of switches and things. More pokémon to slay. More stupid traps, damn, as if I didn't got enough of these in the Sylph Building...
KILLING is the sweetest thing there is ! Not solving puzzles ! This is frustrating ! Not a single threatening fight in there either !

damn, the pokémon mansion music is nice though :O More items. Have I said that the hard item limit in RBY is a bitch yet ? Nope ?

More mazes. This is getting really annoying.

Alexander, level 42 Gyarados - Surf, Thunderbolt, Blizzard, Body Slam - Rape machine. 125 base attack is very solid and 100 Special ain't bad as well.
Hannibal, level 38 Vileplume - Mega Drain, Swords Dance, Cut, Sleep Powder - Good, especially with x6 attack.
Vlad, level 37 Haunter - Psychic, Night Shade, Confuse Ray, Hypnosis - Aaah yesss confuse ray shenanigans. It's also good on the special defense side as well. Do I need to mention Psychic is awesome ? Main issue is that it runs out of PP pretty fast.
Ghenghis, level 42 Nidoqueen - Body Slam, Strength, Earthquake, Surf - Good old nidoqueen. Always reliable.
Patton, level 37 Pidgeot - Double Edge, Sand-Attack, Swift, Fly - The weakest of my pokés, but Sand Attack is still very powerful. A Double Edge is solid as well.

And then some random level 32 koffing who's gonna end in my box asap.

So, back to the mansion. Opened an item, got a fight, thought it was a Voltorb but nah, weezing. Honestly it was level 40 i was afraid it would take out a poké with Selfdestruct.

Got rare candy. Using it on Pidgeot.

Got the Solarbeam TM, too bad my only grass poké doesn't have any moveslot free.

edit: oh a key seems i'm gonna need MORE of this dungeon. grr.

oh no it's the arena key, well time to grind my Vlad and other pokés on that.

Getting Vlad first. Time to trash some low tier trainers.

Learnt Dream Eater, which is kinda creepy as a gen 1 attack. But much more useful than Night Shade. Still vlad's damn low on PP though.

Why so much burglars in that gym... I don't see much money in there.

Alright, I restarted that 2 days ago.

However it seems I just missed Giovanni and me tearing a new behind to the bikers on the Cycling Road.. I think I have a few saves before Giovanni though.

Also need an idea for my sixth poké.

I know I have a Raticate, a Kabuto and an Aerodactyl in a box. I can also go catch stuff inside the seafoam islands.
