Title: My game review site
Post by: Alphasim on December 18, 2011, 04:38:03 AM
I'm not sure this is the appropriate forum for this, but here goes.  I've been reviewing console and PC games on my site since January 2005 - so I'm not some start-up or upstart - and I wanted to share it with you folks.  Formerly e-AAGH.net, it's now called All Around Gaming Hub, or just AAGH (http://e-aagh.net/). I've got a meager staff now (I used to have more, but they bailed years ago) and I do 99% of the writing, so you'll see mostly my stuff. We underwent a change from a handmade HTML-based site to this new Wordpress-based setup in February this year. (If, for some reason, you're curious about our history, it's all described here (http://e-aagh.net/about-e-aagh-net/).)

I strive for a generally professional style without an elitist tone. My goal is to speak to the 'average gamer,' rather then the uber hardcore or overly casual gamers. If you like games, play them for fun (and not to prove some arbitrary point about your perceived self-worth) and just enjoy gaming as a hobby and not a job, you'll like AAGH.

Oh, and if this is out of place, please lock it and/or delete it. Thanks!  ;)

Gaming for the fun of it. That's what I personally stand for. Think people that I'm in a clan with would agree since we all just do that. The S.A.G.S. clan isn't what you can call serious.

Anyway, looking at the site, looks pretty nice.

Wish I had the free time to do website staff stuff like I used to, I'd offer up the assist.

I was once trying to walk from Whiterun to Markarth and every time I started to approach Rorikstead (about halfway between the two) I got attacked by a dragon. I’d kill them, carry their bones and scales back to my house in Whiterun, fast-travel back, walk a few minutes, get attacked by a dragon, kill them and carry their bones and scales back to my house; repeat ad nauseum. It took me almost a half-dozen tries just to get to Rorikstead, and when I got there, a dragon attacked Rorikstead.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I've been hanging around on there and I am missing something important there. Why is there no tap for Sony games (PSP, PS1, PS2, PS3 and soon-ish also PS Vita)?

I've been hanging around on there and I am missing something important there. Why is there no tap for Sony games (PSP, PS1, PS2, PS3 and soon-ish also PS Vita)?
The reason is simple: I do most all of the reviews and I don't own a Sony system anymore. I had a PSX but it died of use and old age, I had a PS2 but I lent it to one of my staff members and the guy dropped it and pretty much destroyed it (it actually looked more 'thrown' then dropped: case cracked open, disk drive broken and hanging out, etc) and when I had the funds to buy either a PS3 or an Xbox 360 I bought the 360. I do have a handful of PS2 reviews from before my system's 'accident' here (http://e-aagh.net/about/old-reviews/). It's s similar reason why there's only one review for the original Xbox. I got one used and it died within a month of getting it, so I only got one review out of it. I run the site completely out of my own pocket and said pocket isn't very deep. I'm hoping that Santa will fill that void this month but I sent letters to the North Pole for a PS3 the last few years to no avail. Funny but unrelated story: my Dreamcast got tripped over years ago and died (I have a hard time with game consoles). Last year I was hinted from family that I had a new piece of hardware coming for the Holidays, so naturally I thought, 'great, finally - a PS3.' No, they found a used Dreamcast and bought it for me. How's that for an awkward Christmas gift? You're looking for a new current-gen rig and instead you get a used 11 year old system.

TL:DR - I have nothing against Sony, I just don't have any of their hardware anymore.

Okay, thanks for clearing that up. It just seemed weird to have a review site for any game and then not have a Sony section.

Well, on your site in a comment on the reviewing thing, you can see that I have done reviews before, though I'm doubtful of how good I am at it. I myself own a PS3 with a nice set of games for it (eventhough I haven't done much on it recently and since my internet sharing hub literally fell apart in my hands, I don't have connection on it).
If you liked the reviews I linked to on your site, you may put them on there, just don't take all credit to yourself for those ;P

I can certainly add your reviews to the site, with your name on the byline (similar to what I did here (http://e-aagh.net/2005/03/f-zero-gx-gamecube-review/))

By the way, I managed to dredge the site's forum  (http://e-aagh.net/forum/)back to the surface (it got buried a while ago) if anyone cares to stop by.

Wooo, I am flattered (flattened?).. Maybe I'll be able to fix up some PS3 stuff, but I'm lazy as heck these days. Though Wipeout HD Fury is still fresh in my mind. Just don't expect much from me and I'll be a good member. Otherwise there isn't much to like.

Oh, and I want to thank the GTM community for making AAGH a more lively place. Thank you, everyone.
