Title: Metroidvanias
Post by: courthousedoc on December 05, 2017, 07:35:53 AM
So lately I have fallen into love with the Metroidvania genre, anyone else here a fan of this fantastic genre of exploration based platforming pioneered by Metroid, and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night?

My faves so far are:
Shadow Complex
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Apotheon

shantae is bae and pirate's curse is dope

But I'm more biased towards 3D Metroidvania-like games like Zelda and Souls games.

Aren't those called action/adventure games?

not all action/adventure games have interconnected and intricately designed environments, as well as natural character progression through stat and equipment upgrades, and especially the hands-free minimal storytelling

not sure about you guys, but i consider those the main characteristics of metroidvania games and souls definitely fit into the definition (now that you mentioned it zelda does feel like an offshoot of the classic metroidvania formula though)
