I find it more fun than road racing because you are more focused on beating the other drivers than beating the track. However the road racing is huge on iRacing. They are releasing a Mazda MX-5 for the base package (and everyone signed up) later this year to be the rookie road car (2 variants, 1 right side drive and one left side drive), and the Williams FW31 (F1 Car) for the top levels of road racing.

Edit: SSG you should join with a 3+ month membership that I give you a promo code and my email address for to prove me wrong :D

@Hydro:
Think about it for a second...
Lets say you have an XBOX 360

Well first off, there goes $300+ just to get the xbox.
Well next, we have $60 for a nascar game
Then $60 next year for a nascar game, as the online servers for the old one will shut down and you won't be able to play online until you get a new one
And it keeps going...
Xbox Live Gold sets you back another $50
So thats $410+ to play one game online, where it will be full of noobs, people who drive backwards (assuming that it is a nascar game, only containing nascar and not all of the other series that iRacing has to offer), and people who crash on purpose.

However in iRacing
There are fields of cars well over what you could find in an xbox 360 game, minimal lag, nearly no wreckers (3 months and I've found 3), an appeal system to deal with them, and much more realism.

Tracks are scanned with lazerz for the ultimate in realism. There are tracks from all over the world
And with a promo code that I can PM you if you want it, you get 3 months for $12. Plus 3 cars. Plus 8 tracks in 15 variations.
And past the first level or two, where people are learning to drive, there are not many noobs, or people who go in to wreck, because your name is shown (takes out the anonymity, and people are much nicer to each other as a result), and because people don't want to waste money just to get banned.

Next time, don't make such a quick decision. You must look deeper into things.

@SSG: Think of it like an arcade. You can pay 75 cents to a dollar to play a nascar game. I ran 30 races in iRacing (you can easily run 4 or 5 on a saturday), and it added up to about 30 cents per race. Which is much cheaper than in an arcade (also pay to play there), but in the convenience of your home, against real people from around the world, and on tracks and in cars that are much more diverse and realistic.

Trust me with this, I just couldn't be bothered to pay monthly for a game, every month just to play it.
Don't get me wrong, it looks like a nice game but yeah....

Its not monthly. You get subscriptions. You can get it monthly but it costs more. If you get a 3-month, you pay once and play 3 months. You get 1 year, you pay once and get to play for a year. Same for 2 years.

I just need someone else to join so they can back me up on all of this stuff.

Well thats another story... I as well have a steering wheel and pedals for my PS2. However the controls are weird when with the steering wheel. I have a Logitech NASCAR wheel, that I got a long time ago, and the problem is that it thinks that the steering wheel is both the steering and the pedals, so when configuring controls, it has you turn the steering wheel, then it says "Depress gas pedal", and the pedal doesn't work, but when turning the steering wheel it registers as pedals.

However, you could get lucky as I did, when joining a random chat room out of the blue, there is a guy in there who you get talking to who is willing to send you his usb version of the same wheel for free, because he doesn't use it anymore. It showed up yesterday, and works great.

Although if you get iracing, it is still worth giving it a shot with the steering wheel. It couldn't hurt.

P.S. Converter is known as "PSX to PS2 Convertor"

Link: http://www.amazon.com/PS2-USB-Dual-Controller-Adapter-Converter/dp/B000F6BGXY

It is a bit old though, and keep in mind that it works for me with Windows XP. I don't know about other softwares.

Also, there is a small CD in the cardboard, so don't bend it, or it'll break and the adapter won't work (CD installs the software for adapter).

Decided to just post the best promo code I have

PR-2FREE

With this you get 3 months for the price of one. $12 for 3 months equals $4 per month, plus you get all of the base package, etc.

How to use it:

Click on the red "Race Now" button on the top of the page. Scroll down to a small bar beneath the 4 options for subsriptions that says "Enter Promotion Code"

Type in "PR-2FREE"

Then you will get a page telling you the affects of the promo code (In this case, it will read "Buy 1 Get 2 Free - $12"

At the bottom of that page are two options. "Pay with a credit card" or "Check out with Paypal". Click whichever one you like.

This brings you to a page where you enter your credit card or paypal info

At the top of the page, there will be a box that reads Referred by: (email).

In that box enter Bigsoxfan1994[nospam]@yahoo.com. This gives me a referral, which adds 10 iracing credits to my account, and extends my membership 1 month. MAKE SURE YOU SPELL IT RIGHT that is the only chance to enter it for a referral. Obviously take out the [nospam] part.

Hope to race with someone soon

-Somebody

Holy carp I have one of those! used to use it for NT2003 way back when, then used it for nascar 2005 for PS2. It's now either collecting dust in my basement somewhere or my parents threw it out.
