Robot Wars Extreme Destruction, Robot Wars Arenas of Destruction, RA2 Tech Demo are the closest.
-
Even though Robot Arena 2 is incomplete, it's still the best robot combat game by far. I think that's really sad when you consider how many fully-completed licensed games there were.
-
lol go download dsl
-
Get Robot Wars Extreme Destruction for the GBA. The graphics are no better than what you'd expect on a GBA game, but considering the platform it's surprisingly fun and lifellike, and it does give you what you want - being able to play with the Robot Wars greats.

lol go download dsl

I wouldn't check it out...
It confuses me that so many people find RW:ED to be a good game, I remember it being a bad game when it first came out, and when I re-played it about a year ago, it was even worse, one of the worst games i've ever played actually, and i've played cheetaman 2

Well ED is better than AoD in my opinion, it's definitely worth checking out.
-
They're on a par, IMHO. They also have nothing on RA2.
-
Just to be clear, I'm only recommending the GameBoy Advance version of "Robot Wars Extreme Destruction" It's completely different from the PC/Xbox version.
If you absolutely must have a console version, then go for "Areans of Destruction," it's not great but it's far and away the lesser of the two evils. "Extreme Destruction" for the PC/Xbox is nearly unplayable because of physics bugs and game mechanic issues.
-
and the fact nearly every robot is faster then formula 1 car..
Its hard to believe ED came after AoD.. cant imagine how bad a 3rd one would have been with that patten..
-
Nah,it was decent enough for me to get my mum to buy it on ebay. The bad things are the drunken house robots, the co2 gas geyser floor flippers(as in the geysers of gas at walls, they were like FLOOR FLIPPERS.)
-
I still have RW:AoD for the PS2.
Square box + six outer wheels + three spikes front and back + kevlar = teh baist bawt evrarz!!111!11!1!one!!1
-
I'd say RW:ED would have been the second best robot combat game if they added an OOTA zones.
Another thing that is close is that unfinshed botapp/Battlebots demo type thing made by someones friend.
-
I remember RW:ED.
It was rather fun until i found this :P
I just liked the annihilators 'nd stuff.
Plus i remember Battlebots for the GBA.
It was very simple and didn't have much in the way of gameplay and was pretty bad but it was alright for my simple little 8-year old mind...

The physics are fun to mess with. If you're playing as Razer in the Mars arena, let it get flipped or tipped, and if you mash the srimech button you can get it to rise all the way up to the ceiling. If you hit the ceiling you die, but it's still a fun glitch to exploit.
