Two Water-types isn't great, in my view. And there's two Flying types as well. I'd get at least one Ground-type, and one Electric-type pokemon in your team. If it's Emerald, I can't entirely remember what Pokemon I used, I'm pretty sure I had an Aggron, Walrein and Flygon. Can't remember any of the others. But you probably want as much types as you can, just to cover all the bases.

Gyarados is an awesome-type, not a water-type, so it doesn't count :P

Definitely get an electric and ground types.

And what's the problem with flying types ? I had 3 Flying-types in my FireRed team. :P

Owned by Electric and Ice-types. =P Which are fairly common, I find. It's better to have a wide range of types to have an advantage over everything, rather than having one where you're stuffed. Grass should be there, probably, because later on, you may encounter Quagsire quite often. God, those things are annoying.

Also gyrados is weak to ice so you have a lot of ice weknesses there.

Strong pokemon are: Gengar, dragonite, aerodactyl, tyranitar, Alakazam, porygon z and scizor to name a few.

Omastar (I forget how to spell it) its in leaf green don't know if its in your but I find it rocks! It can (at least the way I used him) take on electric and ice no problem it was a water and rock type. Again I don't know much but just putting that out there.

I would evolve your Swablu first :P

The champ uses water so I would try an electric
The first of the elite four uses Dark Type
the second uses Ghost Type
the third I am sure uses Ice type
and the fourth uses Dragon.

Hope that helps.  ;)

But I recomend your Pokemon are fully evolved.

Aerodactyl is cool, as gengar and dragonite, but alakazam just gets raped by anything physical.

Yeah, it's a very good special sweeper though, especially as it's ranked as Under Used.
Besides, I always just use sweepers with maybe one jirachi or suicine or something like that.

No, no, no, don't use Legendaries, that takes all the fun out of it. =D

Dark, Bug and Fighting seem to work well. I suspect some of them may be Ghost as well, so either have a decent Bug-Type, or quite a high-level Special Attack pokemon.
Ghost, Immune to Normal attacks, but weak to Ghost-Types as well. Avoid Psychic and Fighting-types.
Ice, the obvious tactic would be fire, and lots of it, but Fighting works equally well. Steel and Rock are also good, though avoid Flying and Grass.
Dragon, strangely weak against Dragon-type Attacks, so I would go for Ice-types.

You obviously know little of the competitive battling enviroment, jirachi and suicine are ranked as Over used while most other legendaries are ranked as ubers  ;)
And when it comes to types just have a healthy mix.
Some like fire are very weak, and some like dragon are overpowered, but most of them are fairly even, having atleast 1 decent pokemon per type.
It's more about the individual pokemons stats.

I don't regard Fire as that weak, it's good against Grass, Ice and Steel, which are fairly common types, I think I'm right in thinking it does well against Flying but not so well against Water or Ground.

The types not that bad, there just tends to be a limited movepool for fire types.

Get a Fighting type, or teach a Fighting move to one of your Pokemon.  Not only will that take care of Dark, but Ice too, without being disadvantaged by the Ice/Water hybrids.
