Title: GTM Minecraft Server
Post by: Badger on March 06, 2011, 10:15:09 AM
I don't know if this has already been done, But I have made a working server for GTM, and some members of Minecraftforum.net

Just go to this page:
http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=1025&t=211525&p=3054831#p3054831 (http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=1025&t=211525&p=3054831#p3054831)

And put your minecraft name, Your nickname as your GTM username, age as 'GTM' and fill the rest of the form normally. The age as 'GTM' is to let me know that you are from GTM, so I can immediately add you to whitelist

Then enjoy! Currently a max of 6 people on server at any time, but anyone can be whitelisted.

Have fun!

I see this is hosted on your home server. This is a Bad Thing. If you want, I can set up a server for you (40 slots or whatever) and give you admin powers, since I can't be arsed to administer it.

Sure, if there is no lag then I would be really grateful. I'll put a sign up at the spawn thanking you and a link to GTM.

Just a quick question:

Could I update the whitelist quickly and regularly, or do I have to hassle you?
Could you make it a max of 6 players on the server at any one time? I don't want it to get too crowded.

Anyway, thanks!

Big thanks to Serge, now is half decent. Survival Server, no spawning, griefers will be Banned. Enjoy!

You're welcome. Although I can't say how long it will be up for - dedicated servers cost quite a lot of money :P.

How much exactly? I have quite a bit of cash ATM, I may be able to afford one for a bit.

I pay around $110 p/m for my server... but it also runs other things :P.

Hmm
Thanks for the info, I may come in useful.

The Java instance running the server was using like 300% CPU power, so I had to kill and start it again. Weird o_O.

300%?!? Are you overclocking your CPU?

Could you add a whitelist? Someone came and griefed.

If you can, could you just add me, you and Noogai03, and anyone else you would like on?

Thanks.

Haha, no, it's just Linux's way of telling that the task scheduler is giving the process 3x the CPU time it would normally be given.

Also, invite who you want, do what you want with the server, I don't care.

You run Linux? First person I know who does. What are the advantages?

Uhm, it's more secure, more reliable, more stable, faster and free (as in free speech and usually as in free beer)? Just to remind you, most of the web (but not only) servers run Linux. Same goes for supercomputers.

And both my netbook and desktop PC. And my home server that's been up and running on Linux for 104 days now (http://i.imgur.com/3I6Ej.png), and that would've been longer if nor for a kernel update (fun fact: the hardware it's running on is so old, no recent version of Windows would run on it). Also, if you have a router, I bet $10 that it's also running Linux.
