FTL: Faster Than Light
« on: September 15, 2012, 08:54:26 AM »
So basically I've wanted this game for a while now. It came out yesterday and I was just about to buy it from Steam (it's less than £7 because it's an indie game
), when suddenly my IRL friend gave me it. My face of joy, not pictured.

Anyone else want it? Or has it? Because a discussion thread about this would be awesome.

He was the only reason I found out about the game. He's a great Youtuber.

BBBBBUMP

My EVIL, EVIL brother Firebeetle started telling me about this game and that it was on sale for $4 and now I'm officially hooked.

(This was just before Christmas so it has nothing to do with why DSL 2.2 was delayed.)

After several failed attempts, I have my first Normal victory.  The hard part was actually getting out of sector 1... once I got going, I could stay going.

I had terrible weaponry (only 4 power), but 4 Mantis with max combat skills and a boarding drone.

Does anyone else still play this game?

If you haven't tried it yet, the Captain's Edition mod adds a ton of content.

I may try some mods at some point but I'm still unlocking the stock ships and getting achievements.  (Just got On a Wing and a Prayer.)

Also just got my first victory (Normal) without using cloaking.  The Kestrel B is pretty good!

The most consistent ship I beat hard mode with is The Basilisk.  As long as you know how to avoid auto drones/Lanius (avoid Rebel Controlled Sector and Abandoned Sector).

The best Augmentations is Long-Range Scanners.  For 30 credits you remove most of the random factors from the game.  If you see it in store, buy it even if you have to sell something.  Buying this early almost guarantees a victory.

For the extra module, you need cloak to dodge the big attacks the final boss throws at you.  You might upgrade it once as a damage buffer but you definitely don't want to put more than 1 energy into it.  You won't be able to dodge the next big attack if you cloak for longer than the minimum amount of time.
