Title: E3 2011
Post by: GroudonRobotWars on May 24, 2011, 09:31:43 PM
So E3 is coming up in a few weeks, new games will be announced and revealed.

This is the official disscusion thread.

One of the games that I would like to see the preview of that was officially announced for E3 is WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2012. Every year at E3 they announce what changes have been made to the WWE SD vs Raw series, as too what changes have been made, what is removed and what is added. This is one of my favourite parts of E3 to see what changes are made.

Then there is that one rumor of RCT4 going around. A thread on the official Atari forums made by an Atari staff member was made the week after last years E3 asking about what fans would want for RCT4.
Here is the thread so you don't think I am lying
http://forums.atari.com/showthread.php?t=9152 (http://forums.atari.com/showthread.php?t=9152)
But will any news of this pop up at E3, or will more info be possibly anounced within the future.

Discuss what you think will possibly happen.

If they do make RCT4, I hope they make it a lot like rct3 and less like 2 or 1.

I just hope that one change happens for SmackDown vs. RAW 2012 happens: them getting rid of the Gamespy servers. SvR's online functionality is crippled as a direct result of using Gamespy's servers (inability to download or upload online content at random, severe lag while trying to play online), and it would do them good to look for another service provider.

I use WII version so I can't get online to play at all.

Anyways the changes I hope that happen are the fixes for Tables and Ladders on the wii version and they need to fix the Falls Count Anywhere match. It seems like falls count around only the ring and in it. I hope they allow you to fight in the crowd or in the concourse sections.

I was not at all convinced by that XBox conference. It focused WAY too much on the Kinect with titles such as "Disneyland". I also see potential for abuse of the object scanning thing.

It's not being developed by Bungie, so don't expect things to feel the same.

I'm on Vita's side, but Wii U's putting up a BIG GAME.
Vita is a portable. Wii U is a home console. They aren't in direct competition. Vita's biggest competitors are the 3DS and the iOS platform.

Remember when Nintendo used to focus on making great games rather than shoving in more and more stupid gimmicks into everything they made...
Gaming has always been about gimmicks. Remember, when the Rumble Pack was introduced? It was a bulky controller attachment that came with Star Fox 64. Now, we take it for granted. Remember how much sh** Sony got when they released the Sixaxis without support for rumble?

The Wii U isn't even a new console...
No, the controller isn't a console. The console is a little white box that connects to the TV.

They showed it during the presentation. It was sitting next to the TV in all of the demo videos. It's even at all of the demo stations. You just didn't do your homework.

Besides, how in the heck could the current Wii pull off HD graphics? It's running what is essentially a 730 MHz G3 processor. In other words, it's a suped up iBook.

Halo 4: Hope it's fun, wished Bungie was on board though
Call Of Duty: Teenagers will buy this game anyway Modern Warfare 3: Prime example of corporate greed and unoriginality. Copied Halo:Waypoint and Infinity Ward (Although the better developer) cannot seem to find any other war to recreate so they just keep going with this bullsh**. Treyarch isn't getting away either... their new Call of the Dead map is a complete disappointment (especially when you have to bring Buffy and other career sunken actors into it because your writers SUCK)
Wii U: Has Potential, Seems like Nintendo is playing catch-up with competitors. (They should have made the controller an expansion to the OG Wii/ Wii should have had the better GPU and HD graphics and processing power)
PS Vita: THIS is what real gaming is all about
Kinect: Two Words... OPEN SOURCE... another two words... DEVELOPER KIT
iOS5 (WWDC): Copies almost every single competitor to Apple
Frogger 3D: This I Want...

@RR - I agree with you on everything, specially with CotD, it feels like a bigger version of Five. I also don't expect much from Halo 4 seeing as Bungie isn't working on it, same with MW3 due to the lack of InfinityWard employees. I lol'd when it was said that the developers are aiming for a "bug free" MW3.

One move that will practically make me love Nintendo is if they got off their ass and actually made Metroid Dread, because the idea of a 2D Metroid adventure is great.

Good point, actually- still have my old copies of Zero Mission and Super Metroid, actually. But even still, a general return to sidescrolling with a modern spruce up will be great to see once Metroid Dread does get off the ground. Don't know if it will, but it'd be great to see.

And provided the Plasma and Ice Beams in it, I'm all ears.

Depends on what you're looking for. Those are the games that seem to be the most well liked by everyone.

Some other notable exclusives include:
Monster Hunter Tri
Kirby Epic Yarn
Punch-Out
No More Heros 1&2
Madworld
Super Paper Mario
Goldeneye
Red Steal 2
Excite Bots
Excite Trucks
Wario Ware Smooth Moves
Animal Crossing
House of the Dead:Overkill
Wii Sports Resort
Wii Fit

You can look up more.

The Wii System is to blame. I think they KNEW developers were going to be hindered by the motion sensing controls. They screwed up. They need to add OPTIONS for regular controls and motion sensing. Another thing to blame is lack of good hardware. We are in the Twenty First Century... everyone is using accelerometers, gyroscopes, and bluetooth fore controls (Even before the iPhone 4) and they went with INFRARED, if you look at a EM Radiation scale you will see that Infrared is a long wave... those are the EASIEST to block. That is why TV's are so devastatingly bad. Infrared Sensors are pushing twenty years old. The OG Wii should have been what the Wii U is sans the peripherals. Then on the side add in Motion Sensing gaming and Tablet Gaming. The real losers here are the developers.

Do you ever get tired of being wrong? The Wiimotes use bluetooth to connect to the Wii. What you see on the tip of the Wiimote is an infrared camera. It looks for two infrared lights and triangulates its position. Its used for the "pointer" function of the remote. (Fun fact: the included sensor bar is entirely optional. Want a cheap wireless solution? Place two candles near your TV.)

Most of the motion detection is handled by the built in accelerometers and gyroscopes. With the Motion+ controller/add-on, more gyros were added, offering more precision.

Oh, and the Wii U is compatible with the Wii accessories. That means regular controls are an option.

I just hope that they don't remove vehicles from it completely, if they do, it's just becoming more like Call of S**tty: Modern Retardedness 3.

Very true. What I consider good graphics and what they call "good graphics" are two different things entirely. To me, it has to be visually stimulating. A game along the lines of Katamari Damacy is visually stimulating to the point that it's almost too much. A game like Call of Duty, on the other hand, is so bland and uninteresting graphically that I just put it down and walk away.

A game along the lines of Katamari Damacy is visually stimulating to the point that it's almost too much. A game like Call of Duty, on the other hand, is so bland and uninteresting graphically that I just put it down and walk away.
I agree with this. One thing I always enjoyed with the casual games it that they generally are more colourful, and even some of the harder ones like Metroid Prime 2 also can be pretty nice at times (well, maybe only in the Sanctuary Fortress).

Hate to DP, but:
Did the original Wii have any good games BESIDES these?

Mario Kart Wii
SSBB
Mario Galaxy
Mario Galaxy 2
Donkey Kong Country Returns
New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Metroid Prime 3
Zelda: Twilight Princess
Okami (okay, not an exclusive, shoot me)
Super Paper Mario (not my favorite but it was pretty fun)
Goldeneye ('tis good)
Monster Hunter Tri
These are all some of the finest games ever made.
Then you have all the compatible Gamecube games, so you can have all the hardcore gaming you want as you get absolutely annihilated in Ikaruga.

First party Nintendo titles are generally colorful as well. That doesn't mean the bland "mature" trend doesn't exist and isn't annoying.

But the purpose of the 'Fabricate Yourself' thing is? It doesn't make realistic human models, plus it's a lot like those '3D Pin Art' things, where you can make the pins form roughly your hand. So, the question is, WHY PAY £150 (or so) FOR IT?

Also, Forza 4 FTW!

There are better Kinect model hacks, there is a bunch of other cool hacks aswell. I was just demonstrating the fact that the Kinect has more uses and power compared to its competitors.

You also have to bear in mind that the Wii was made YEARS BEFORE THE KINECT. So yeah, there's gonna be more power in the Kinect because it's in a new generation of motion-controlled gaming. Thus, the new Wii.

Speaking of which, I just had to rant at someone for their comments on it. This is said rant: http://www.stuff.tv/news/computers-and-consoles/news-nugget/nintendo-wii-u-shows-its-game-face#comment-10529 (http://www.stuff.tv/news/computers-and-consoles/news-nugget/nintendo-wii-u-shows-its-game-face#comment-10529)

Odd that you consider hacks for Kinect to be features, but don't count jailbreak apps for iOS whenever ragging on iPhones. Could it be that you're a hack?

I was just demonstrating the fact that the Kinect has more uses and power compared to its competitors.
And WiiMotes have been used to perform surgery: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,526881,00.html (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,526881,00.html)

In terms of gaming, the Kinect (in its current form) will never be as good as the PlayStation Move or Wii Motion+. Why is that? The Kinect has no physical inputs, unlike the Wii and PlayStation which both feature nunchuks with analogue sticks. This limits Kinect's motion controls to on-rails "shooting galleries" and minigame collections. Meanwhile, Motion+ has 1:1 Zelda and Move has Socom with good aiming.

Anyways who would say what looks better PSVita or 3DS?
Depends on what you're looking for. They offer completely different experiences, so if you can afford it, get both.

PC gaming is good, but I find that if you don't have a fully optimised PC, it can be slow. Console gaming does not have this issue, as games will play just for the console, without needing '*blank* or better'. I haven't explained it very well, but I'm sure you roughly get what I mean. For example, The Sims 3 is better on console because it will run at a speed that isn't dependent on your PC specs, and so is on average faster. Playing games on the PC is better, but I prefer using consoles. Less hassle, plus none of my PCs have designated graphics cards.

Indeed-  it doesn't quite seem fair on them to have people automatically judging them on graphics and nothing else like you do nowadays- would you rather play a game that's great fun but a little lacking in the graphics department, or something that plays like crap, but looks absolutely stunning?

If you want a gaming Mac that will last, get a Mac Pro and dual-boot Windows. The hardware is fully upgradable, and the stock specs are fantastic.
