Title: Command & Conquer
Post by: G.K. on January 20, 2010, 04:01:55 PM
I know SSG made a thread about Zero Hour in '08, but this can talk about the whole series. If you just want to talk about HM2, that's fine.

I need to sleep soon, so I'll be posting later.

RA2 and RA3 are my favourites. RA3 with the C&C Reatarded: Red Cocaine (http://www.moddb.com/mods/cc-retarded-red-cocaine) mod. As the creator of that mod said: Its so unbalanced that its actually balanced! Just look at the cids on that page and you will see what I mean.

I've never gotten round to buying RA3 for whatever reason. I love RA2, Firestorm and Renegade though.

Generals ftw.

Edit: Yeah you're right Pwn :P

Hehehe. What I always do is strategically place Dragon Tanks around my base and constantly apply flames around it, with 3 Gatling tanks, a bunker and a Radar Tower supporting it. Then I buy enough hackers and spam Gatling Tanks and win. XD

My favourite in Generals was the Laz0r General, because the lasers are effective against everything.
Then second would be China Tank General, Emperor spam FTW!
3rd is normal GLA, Rocket Buggies GO!

I don't play Generals much, but I spam dragons and emperors, add in a few portable nukes and attack.

What is CnC exactly? Like the Civilization series?

It's Real time, not Turn based.

So like a MMOLG Civilization? Kewl.
Title: Re: Command & Conquer
Post by: somestrangeguy on January 21, 2010, 03:11:51 PM
Not really MMO, there is a max amout of players that can be on at a time in a server. Generals and RA2 have 8 and RA3 has 6, this includes spectators too.

Tough I think I would enjoy a game of RA2 with some people, thats one game I havent played in years and the only one I have been able to play in LAN agaisnt is my closest freind.

Not really fun matches because he always wanted to first exhaust the map resouces, then he allowed both to commit attack, this always caused some serious lag. 50 Kirovs and a whole lot of everything else anyone?

Spamming Kirovs FTW!

For some reason I always found myself playing as Yuri. Perhaps it was the mind control.

I've played Red Alert, Tiberian Sun+Firestorm, RA2+Yuri's Revenge, and Tiberium Wars.  Wish I could play RA3 but there are more games in existence that I want to play than I have time for.

Have to say I liked Tiberian Sun the best, on account of how much replay value I got out of that game.  Plus it had a really easy-to-use level editor, and you could use either of the two CD's it came with to play, so me and Firebeetle could do LAN battles (we couldn't do that with any of the newer games without buying a second copy, plus one of the two computers we used would always be too slow to run the game).  Good times.

Not too much focus on superweapons in Tiberian Sun either.  You have to worry about multi-missiles and ion cannons and that's it, and multi-missiles could be blocked by Firestorm walls.

Just don't forget to pave your base and build walls around your important buildings!  (dang subterranean engineer squads)

Heheh, I remember a custom level I made that had a huge field of blue tiberium in the middle that you had to cross in order to reach your opponent's base.  One stray shot out there, and the whole thing goes up in an unstoppable chain reaction.  I was disappointed when blue tiberium wasn't explosive in Tiberium Wars.

Apparently I am the only one that gives love to the first one.  Man I loved that game, it was the only C&C game I played. It was so challenging and innovative when it came out.  I had to balance my time between that and Myth. Both of them were insanely addictive.

I was going to try buying Red Alert 3, but then I found out about how many DRMs the series comes with. :dead: Has this been a problem for anyone else?

That put me off buying RA3. I'm looking to get The First Decade and that's about it.

I havent had any problems with the DRM. Btw, I just recently got myself CnC4, it really does look awesome but its hard to get used to.

My comp isn't powerful enough for any of these that is more graphic than Generals. That i should download with Zero Hour since i lost the CD and all copies of it.

The older ones are still great :D

I have Red Alert. It's awesome. My strategy relies on getting my base surrounded by Mammoth Tanks for defense and not attacking until I have 10 or so airfields with MiG's. Then I systematically dismantle the enemy's ability to acquire resources. But then, I've only ever played against the computer.

Started a game of Renegade on hard the other day. Keep dying in the power plant in the mission with the dam, and then I lose motivation.

Don't worry your not the only one. I use a single mammoth and get its rank up then take the enemy by hit and run attacks.

I'm getting Red Alert 3 sometime in the near future and I'm confused about Uprising. D'you have to buy them both or what? Because I want to be able to play both sets of campaigns...
Title: Re: Command & Conquer
Post by: somestrangeguy on December 10, 2010, 09:45:14 AM
Uprising is a standalone addon, so you dont need to have the origional in order for it to work.

Also, you bst be good at multiplayer, this game does go very old with only 7 missions for each faction IIRC.

I fail at multiplayer in this game so its not on my favourites anymore.
Title: Re: Command & Conquer
Post by: Alterer of Reality on December 10, 2010, 04:01:48 PM
I know you don't have to have the original, but do you need both in order to play all missions?
Title: Re: Command & Conquer
Post by: somestrangeguy on December 10, 2010, 05:05:51 PM
Yes you do, Uprising has its own missions.

The learning curve of Uprising is way steeper than the origional and has the Commanders challenge mode wich you will need to play in order to be able to fare better since you dont have all tech unlocked right away.

So if you want to know the story and get the hang of things get origional and play it trough. Then get Uprising if you want additional challenge.
Also IIRC Uprising has no multiplayer, so take that into account too.

Using a nocd crack, yes you can also you will need to use hamachi and lan play since Generals does not allow 2 of the same CD key online at the same time, and if you do that, make sure to pop me a message too, I have not played this game in such a looong while im basically at newbie level.

RA3 can also be ran without CD trough nocd crack, but it has even more advanced online protection, you can only connect 1 cd key to 1 online profile, wich makes playing co-op impossible if you both use the same CD since that requires you to go online and I dont actually remember if there was a lan option or not, if there is then the hamachi is a good solution.

Yes I have. I held the line against 5 Redeemers on Kane's Wrath. I defeated many opponents and most of survived many nukes black holes and ion cannons.

This Little lost bot may be lost, but can fight.

LLB, try going to My Documents and loacte Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data folder and find Options.ini
Its should be clear enough for anyone to change the settings.
Start by setting a lower resolution.

Thing is on my last battle my command center got nuked by nod (those bastards) and I went flying. So now I'm lost with a computer that runs on nothing. Those if you do find me I would like my command back.

Lol

Mainly its Nod and scrin I do best with. Nod: My Avatars and redeemer partnered with 10 venoms = death for opponents. Scrin 4 tripods and there super unit with 3 planet assault carriers = death for opponents
