Just discuss Age of Empires 2

I like playing Byzantines, Chinese or Koreans mostly. Byzantines for tougher buildings, Chinese for their special unit and for the extra villagers at the start, and Koreans for slightly better towers.

the koreans are just a giant bullsh** nation to try to assault with long range towers, heavy support units, rapeboats, +2 RANGE ONAGER BONUSESS GRRRR

although the most overpowered faction is definitely spanish. 3x as good cannon galleons ? borderline battle-worthy villagers ? super-fast monks, super-fast and innacurately precise, very fast, tougher hand cannons ? yup.

greatest nation will and still remains mongols. very nice cavalry and mangudais and very good, FAST (this is important) siege engines.

Huns ? What's that ? You the one to play 4-way Hun only deathmatches ? I feel bad for you son.

also i remember fondly AoE1 but it's pretty unplayable right now, last time i installed and played it (the Yamato campaign) the pathfinding killed me dead

Though I stopped playing AoE2 now, i'm in a M2TW phase. Much better game as well.

Hmmm I'd agree with you 1/4 of that, Yes they specialise in Cannons and stuff, but they lack in monks and Archers, and tbh, siege is very inaffective against other siege, Bombard towers wipe out infantry but get raped against trebs and onagers

how do you even run out of trees in a standard map ?

also mongols and teutons are my favorite civs. diametrically opposed playstyles but I like both.

Man I can penetrate that double wall lock with a couple of teutonics backed by trebuchets. Either my opponent will choose to:
-Destroy the trebuchets first, if this is the case I will take advantage of bombard tower's minimum range rule. But now my teutonics would be vulnerable to longbowman attacks, which is not likely because a fully upgraded longbowman (or any sort of archer) inflicts only 1 damage point to a fully upgraded teutonic knight. If my opponent somehow manages to destroy my army of teutonics, I will simply send the second wave of teutonics and trebuchets. or
-Destroy the teutonics first, but this will require lots of micromanagement since my opponent will need to take down one trebuchet at a time with bombard towers. While my opponent loses time with taking down trebuchets one by one, I will have more time to get my teutonics closer to the walls. As opposed to the bombard towers and bombard cannons, trebuchets do not cause damage on friendly units, which makes them a more feasible option of siege unit for me. And not to forget, in case that my opponent opts to attack trebuchets with any other unit, I will be guarding my trebuchets with archers, which will repel those other units.

Is there any third option? Please let me know :)

Flank the trebuchets and archers from a side exit with cavalry and use archers and siege to kill the teutonics.
