If theres ever a BW BOTM...

Then you wouldn't be able to enter it as you've shown it here  :trollface

Anyways, can we have a better shot of the bot?

Title: Re: The Showcase Of Teamxtreemer-Ism-Ness
Post by: Naryar on February 24, 2011, 06:52:50 PM
Yes, I deleted it because TX was being a moron.

But let us not talk of the past anymore. I am willing to reconsider my views on TX (I'm sure you all know what I'm talking about) if TX shows us he stopped acting like an idiot. Right now I think he is on the good way, having not done as previously and having not done some ranting playground thread.

Now I mean no offense. Back on topic, your bot's attachment work can be done lighter and better by wiser use of components. Also needs to be invertible.

Try cutting down on the extender work and such. Also the first TW mags have more than 400 hitpoints (but how much i forget :P) so you might want to figure out a way to use them. Also play around with the extender setup you might be able to get it lighter.
Title: Re: The Showcase Of Teamxtreemer-Ism-Ness

Ehm, Whats  A TW Mag?
Title: Re: The Showcase Of Teamxtreemer-Ism-Ness
Post by: NFX on February 24, 2011, 07:43:58 PM
Team Whyachi Magmotor. You're using TWMR3's at the moment, which only have 400HP, so are prone to being knocked off.

If you used a single ME to attach each drive motor on, that would help reduce weight. If you replaced the drive motors for something more durable, such as NPCs, that might also help. Lighten up the extender work at the front, and swap the spike strips for something a bit lighter (Perhaps DSL Bar + Light DS Tooth), and you could put some more weapons on there. The chassis could also stand to be shrunk a little, I believe.

I like how you've used the CF Extenders in that one. Could probably stand to make the chassis a little more compact, though.

i still think they would have a better use out the front for trapping :) we don't see many HSers that trap bots on the spinner.

I'd say that hammer VS is too unrealistic, but then again, I guess it's "DSL realistic" so meh.
The razor VS looks like my unrealistic CC4 would be entry, but one sided rather than a dual VS obviously, so well done there.

problem is DSL realism tournaments won't allow these as the weapons pass through the chassis and other parts. use an extender to put the weapons further away from the chassis.

Don't the razors slice through the chassis? And I would use the extra weight on a larger chassis. Seriously, you get more HP, and more chance to space the components out and avoid the razors.

The objective was to make the smallest chassis possible.

I'll extend the CFEs though. That would make it Realistic (You could cut a hole in the chassis to allow the batteries to poke through.

It's stable as it is.

Unrealistic chassis btw :P

Le razors hit the floor when flipped so you need something to stop that happening so you can do moar damage

It's not invertible in the first place. It kinda should be, though.

And the chassis is still unrealistic. You can't really have batteries hanging out of the robot, Hypno-Disc vs. Predator was stopped immediately when Predator's batteries got torn out.

Having fun ripping off other people's chassis and doing no effort of your own to build ?

Also, it must have drive since it has batteries. But, unrealistic, non-invertible and fragile.

I made the chassis for XYZ, the other one was Sages, yuh.

Also, it must have drive since it has batteries. But, unrealistic, non-invertible and fragile.
It has back protection, the un-invertability is an issue, but that' why I made the skirts, it rarely flips over unless it's facing a flipper.

You might want to try having all the large beaters on the disk instead (small or medium beaters holding the large ones seem kinda risky). Then have 4 of those hold Lightning teeth/small DS teeth (depending on what teeth are those, haven't played RA2 in a long time hahahaha).

Plastic 1 seems a little bit risky to me, and NPC's and Ant wheels don't really seem that good a combination to me. I'd try Mini Wheels at the very least, and try to upgrade that armour. Maybe swap the Medium Beater Bars for razors to get a little bit of weight for that. How stable is it?

You've got a 150cm disc at the moment. A 100cm disc would focus your weight closer to the center of the bot, and allow you to spin up faster. It'd also allow you to add some more weaponry for added destructiveness.

And yeah, Plastic 3's pretty good.

Post by: Naryar on December 02, 2011, 11:53:11 AM
That SnS really needs to be invertible, else you're gonna lose fast to anything with the potential to invert you.

Also plastic 3 is one of the best armors available, with Titanium 1, 5 and 10. And it is quite a bit better than plastic 1, yes.

And 120kg of beaters is a bit overkill on a LW SnS. Though I suppose there is no harm on making a slow but tough SnS, for once,

So what's the point of having 2/3 of the splash occupied by BIG WHITE LETTERS ?
Sorry, I didn't know you were the splash police.
Answer my question before trying to mock a global moderator.

What purpose do have gigantic fonts in splashes, especially when they take 2/3 of the total splash size and precious bandwidth and server space ? I see none, therefore I ask you a question on that matter.

I'm not trying to humiliate you, I'm trying to teach you a lesson. If I was trying to humiliate you I would have used more expeditive means.

My previous criticism of yours wasn't visibly enough to make you stop, or you did not simply understood that I wanted no more GIANT WHITE TEXT in splashes, so I decided to take the warning up a notch.

Though I must say I never explicitly said I wanted no more of these, so you may have a point on that, but I thought you understood already. But i'll say it for now so we are clear: no more of those. It makes your posts unnecessarily huge, we here can all read standard size fonts and it also makes your pictures larger than useful.

I shall now stop, but I expect no more GIANT WHITE TEXT in there. Now for an example of what is too big and what is fine, the splash for Titus is now fine, but the splash for Angus isn't.
Fair enough, now let's focu on the bots more than the GIANT WHITE TEXT.

Bot's a bit hard to figure out due to the multicolored background, and still this thing of making the 4/5ths of the splash holding the bot's description instead of the bot.

Besides, we can see it has astros. and I don't see the point of saying what CB it has.

It's nothing really important, but it is still odd to first be aware of the bot's description instead of the bot itself in a splash.

Edit: see, Craaig summed it more simply than me.

It'd be cool if the bot was the main focus rather than some big text, I had to look pretty hard to make it all out.

cb=weight, and because i took an outside picture, i could imagine someone posting a query as to what cb it had, but i can see why the text size is annoying
+i don't see the text positioning to be that important, i'll change it next time i create a bot, though

i'll make the background less 'artistic' next time ;)

i've only just realized that i don't, haha, i was working on a different idea.
i just wanted the weapon to be visible. all the extender work is a titanium halfsheet connected to a poly 20cm at the back, which is where the drive motors are.

If you wanna change to razors change to a 4 weapon design.

also irons don't have a pretty high DP, compared to what you have in standard DSL 2.1. Sure they beat a whirlwep disc or a rotating sledgehammer but that's no big feat.

Title: Re: XY Robotics

I think the general consensus is FS kinda suck - one thing to consider also, is that FS don't really push the opponent away as a HS or VS does, and you have some very vulnerable poly skirts there, so in attacking you could end up worse off.

could probably chave some weight down by replacing that flipper extender, maybe, and maybe making the chassis a bit smaller could help, but there's not a great deal i can do to improve this bot, bar maybe clearing up the extender work, but the extender work was previously cleaner and it weighed more than this bot, so i think this version is better, due to weight.

you have 2kgs left over, which is a lot for a BW, especially when your drive is held on by a poly sheet with approx 1 hp. Those side skirts are eating a ton of weight and not really doing much for it either. You can replace the CB with the lighter blue one.

Yeah, it's a whole new skillset to learn. Yeah, it's a ballache. But the results are well worth the time.
I think that is 2.2. I don't think the armour plates he's used on the front were in 2.1.

That said, the build style he's used with the shell spinner panels is very 2.1 though.

They look too thick to be skirt panels though

That's gonna get absolutely eaten.

(dsl 2.2 btw).

tried to improve on the design, changed the weapon, added more armor (and armor underneath), it's a MW now, might enter it in to something, i'm quite proud of it

Is that a judge burst?

If so I'm pretty sure they don't really fly in IRL building these days, same with the skirts sticking out from under the plow.

All in all it's a bit of a mess really, unless you were going for DSL-S.

Hav e you tried using the piston bursts. And also maybe instead of the skirts use armour panels with wedges on the them

If you're going for IRL, try and have a realistic wedge. Not many realistic bots have motors stuck on top and paper-thin wedges, so try and get that in the chassis.

Also, download yourself a copy of RA2CF. Basically allows you to go beyond the rule of 7, attach anything to anything, and lets your creativity be a lot more flexible.

Look somebody else's showcases... Arcane is the best one to see irl bots that look actually good.
