Weirdo's DSL bots
« on: May 03, 2009, 03:57:41 PM »
Thought I'd start a showcase in DSL, see what anyone thinks.

I'll start off with RipTorn, a flipper/HS hybrid. I actually don't think its too bad, but it needs more testing.

I believe it uses aluminium 10 armour.

I'd remove the wedges at the sides and replace with side armour. Nice bot though.

Good space management, but how effective are the the flippers? Wouldn't the bot be thrown by the spinner?
I built that big robot on that TV show that time

The bot isn't thrown by the spinners if I fire the flippers, so yes, they do work, if thats what you're asking. They seem to be quite efficient as long as they get enough underneath a bot.
Good evening.

Nope, the robot hovers =p

Coarse it has wheels, they're just kinda small, in between the half-sheets underneath.

Protected by the chassis if you look closely. Also smaller wheels would would surely mean the bot wouldn't be invertable.
Good evening.

He's talking about the quality of the wheels, and these suck in DSL.

Get motorcycle wheels, your bot will be faster.

Also check the other DSL showcases for more ideas.

Then how about not so tall chassis and the drive motors as far back as ever possible?

Thanks for the feedback, will start looking at more DSL stuff, I've been focusing on stock recently.

EDIT: Didn't mention, but Reaper 2 was origonaly going to be a horizontal flail spinner. Turned out to be more of a fail spinner cos the axle mounts kept glitching, so I had to settle for a less origonal design. I know, excuses, but... just thought I'd drop that in.

Cuttooth

Thought this would be better than it was, but I still like the design. Has Backlash disks due to the fact that DSL disks wouldn't let me attach weapons. Anyone have any idea why?

Plus; uses Pussycat wheels. Not being the most experianced at DSL, I don't really know if they're any good or not.

The robots also quite easy to get under, which isn't helpful.

Ripoff

The name says it all really. Anyone who's seen Naryars showcase will know where I got the inspiration from. But if you're gonna copy, copy only the best...

Your Cuttooth isn't bad, but 30kg ramplates suck hard (also it might be better to protect the front rather than the sides)

And finally about the wheel choices... Pussycat wheels are not grippy.

Find the grippy wheels in DSL (the description actually says there are), your bot will go faster with you use them. Techno Destructo ones are very grippy and the best IMO, but they're large and really heavy, and for small size wheels you got Hypnodisc ones.

On your Cataclysm near-clone... it's pretty nice, however it's slightly overpowered, and is the thing invertible with the 30kg black batteries? (They're so damn tall i refuse to use them)

Also these extenders might be ripped off pretty quickly.
