The_Tank_Master's Showcase
« on: June 16, 2013, 09:46:58 PM »
Hey Guys, I'm brand new here, (First Post, Woo!) and I've been struggling with DSL TC 2.1 (I Think) for several weeks. Recently, I Made a Heavyweight that actually could somewhat stand up in a battle. Motors are Mags and Piglets, Weapon motors are Perm 80 ELs, and Armor is Steel 5. All feedback is welcome, I appreciate anything you have to say. All Negative is encouraged,  and I honestly doubt there's anything positive.

I Present, Scrapppy Brother:  (Please let the Attachments Work. If not ill post them further down.)

Use the GTM image uploader, then we can see it better :)

Welcome, by the way!

Hmm, not bad, much better than my first few bots anyways.

But, onto the advice...

Don't use Long Batteries. They are horrid. Are you making this IRL or realistic? If you're looking to make this IRL, you're going to want to make a support for the perm.

You might want to add more beaters on the drums there.

And piglets, they're meant for weapons, not for drive. Use NPC's or perhaps Astroflights.

And last but not least, welcome to GTM!

It looks cool as heck.

Don't use piglets for drive, 1 ant battery can power 1 of any spin motor, steel armor in terms of efficiency is worse (Titanium 5 should work well enough)

I can see you'd rather build cool looking things than efficiency, but getting your feet wet in efficiency will help you out in the long run.

Edit: My mistake; didn't have my reference card on me. Steel 5 is a good armor in terms of hp/weight but titanium 5 is a better armor in that case. Still, Steel 5 gives you more armor, which is good.

Welcome.  I see you are being swarmed by bad advice already, so let me clarify a few things

Armor strength/weight is shown on the chassis screen, and if anyone bother to look they will know that steel 5 is fine.

DSL has 2 separate kinds of spin motors, drives and weapons.  Drive motors has higher torque, and weapon motors has higher max speed.  In this case you probably want to use NPCF.

Ant batteries is the only good battery in DSL 2.1 because of the amount of total power (which is hidden in game).  Due to a game flaw, all spin motors only uses 10 AMP, so you only need 1 to 2 of them per spin motor (1 give full power for 40 seconds, 2 give full power for full 3 minutes).  Most people opt for 1 for extra weapon weights.

Also crop the image whenever possible so it doesn't show the rest of the botlab.

S.H.E.I.L.D.: I'm fairly sure I can't, i'm a 14 year old kid, but if we could my brother and father plus the addition of me might be able to actually
pump out a halfway decent bot, But I have no idea where to get such licenses and have no idea how much these bots cost.

123savethewhales: Thanks for the advice, i will definitely aplly it in upcoming bots.

No, you silly XD

IRL is a type of bot style that we have here on GTM, on a basic level it's making a bot look and function as close to real life as possible. What Shield means, is he's asking you if you can build a bot for one of our soon-to-be ongoing tournaments; Battlebots 7. Don't worry about it though; focus on your bot building skills before you enter tournaments. Even IRL ones.

Oh, Sorry, I may have gotten kind of excited knowing that he mighta given a good load of valuable ways and reasons to actually build a real life robot. (dern.) Still trying to figure out these terms. merp.

Don't build IRL if you don't want to. Too many newbies have been sucked into IRL building. If you want a standard DSL tourney there's Two to Tango 2, though you will need a teammate. :P

While I can't really see your bot too well, I can see you need more weaponry. Welcome to the forums btw :D

Another way to improve your robot would be to basically scrap the whole mess of flipper makers you got going on there and lowering your chassis height allowing your robot to be invertible. Also, you will be better off with 2wd using NPCs or NPC fasts with techno wheels. I would suggest also placing a halfsheet on the bottom (make sure you are using the attachment point that attaches it directly to the chassis). Also make sure to build all the way up to the weight limit. Right now you have 50kg leftover that you can use on more weapons, which your robot needs badly.

I like this kid.

I'll echo what's already been said about the images though. I can't actually give any feedback with those images on my phone, but it seems 123savethewhales, 09090909090ayaonrvaus and the others seem to have it all covered anyway.

Welcome to the wonderful of showcases. :D

It has a very cool look to it, almost a mish-mash of the 2 main building styles here, which I'll try explain just to make it clear for the future.

DSL Standard - follows the DSL 'Realistic Rule' where spinning items cannot cut through other components (not including the chassis, or where a slot could be made, in armour for example). To make your current bot more DSL Standard you could follow everyone else's advice, and maybe remove some of the top armour in favour of more weaponry (also building to the weight limit is suggested).

IRL - building must be completely possible in real life, which means on this design you would need to build an aesthetic 'axle support' for the perms. IRL is essentially building for looks rather than potency and destruction.

Good luck on your future builds :)

God damn it stop pestering every single newbie about IRL or DSL-S, first thing this newbie needs is more RA2 experience to learn how to build correctly.

THEN he will make his choice with his experience. You got to understand the building of ra2 before you go IRL, DSL-S or both.

Right now your extender work needs to be better. Go unto the tutorials section and look at my extender tutorial.

You seem to be pretty decent for a new guy, if you want advice feel free to ask me. Hint : People with colored usernames know what they are talking about. People with grey usernames... it's not a certainty.
