Title: Stags bot showcase
Post by: Stagfish on December 30, 2009, 08:11:42 AM
ok heres my best LW
it can beat Grog the vengeful, ninja assassin, tip of the iceberg, BOT 205 (there was nothing left of him just wheels) and others

8 stacked ant batterys
2 DSL bars
2 fast version of a motor that escapes my mind
slim wheels
robot control board
DSA armour

Mini SnS

And don't use the cheat control board. You only need 2 ant batterys, 3 max.

It can beat Grog? I wanna see a battleshot. :P

Anyway, from here I can already see that you're using a custom CPU. Just use the blue one. Also, use multi-extenders instead of anchors since it's lighter and smaller and both have the same HP (infinite). And you can also attach the NPCFs directly onto the baseplate. Saves weight and makes the motors invulnerable. And DON'T stack batts in DSL. DSL aims to make bots that are more realistic. Besides, you only need two for it to spin fast. Then with the remaining weight, attach a sledgehammer/DSL hammer on each end of the bot so you can actually deal some high damage.

[Edit] Forgot about the wheels. Vlads would do fine. Hypnos would be even better if you could shrink your chassis enough. And that means you need to have a chassis less than half of your current size. Upgrade the armor with your free weight. :P

also DSA is the worst armour in DSL,

try using something like plastic 3 or tite 1 for a LW

They'll have the same weight wherever you attach them.

Nope. It actually saves weight (12kg lighter, to be exact). Just use the NPCF right or left. You can have the bulk of the motor sticking out of the chassis.

You can stil make the chassis smaller.
Use vlad wheels, not Pussycat ones.
To get different armour, after maing the chassis, click the armour button that appears after you click finish. Use 3mm plastic or 1mm tite.
You only need 2 ants.

Not good enough. Space management is prioritized in the LW class. Minimizing chassis size and space will maximize free weight, which can be spent on better weapons. Ounce's SnS is an excellent example of such SnSes.

And you're fighting a bot with a bot that's twice its weight. Fighting a bot with a bot that's half its weight is much more honorable. :P

Anyway, as always, shrink your chassis until there's virtually no wasted chassis space at all. Also, instead of that long and incredibly weak multi-extender sticking out at the back, you can use a 120cm metal skirt and just attach your Drive E-Teks there. Then to make up from the decreased turning radius, swap to Technos. Same grip for a wider stance and less weight. Also for the stabilizer, you could ditch the anglers and probably attach a small weapon (like maybe a Typhoon spike) in the middle of the disc. With the extra weight, you can attach stronger weapons (sledges and DSL hammers would work on that) to the disc. Take a look at Nary's The Anarchist's Cookbook for a good example. :D

Hmm... You could also use a (Large2) DSL Disc instead of the one youre using, Its lighter & has 14000 HP instead of 6000
But its smaller though:

Also, I think it looks cooler too :P
Its s00p4h HighQuality :D

I still like 100 cm solid black disk over dsl disk, since it let you mount 8 overkill blade on it (still under-armed for a HW), but at least it will look really cool.

If you only going to have 2 weapons however, might as well just use a DSL bar.

Unrealistic, overpowered and way too much turnspeed.

And yeah, It lets you put more things on it, But hes just using 2 blades anyway :P

may i ask why it has to be realistic?
Title: Re: Stags bot showcase
Post by: G.K. on January 17, 2010, 01:45:26 PM
What armour do the bots use?

Now, for each bot:

HS: Underweight and unrealistic. Stacking batts and overlapping motors is not allowed, due to the realistic rule in DSL (answers your question). Use DSL components instead of the Snapper2's. Good wheel choice though. I don't know if you know that left and right NPC's can be partially placed outside the chassis.

AW: Looks good, insides?

Popup: Bad wheels and Batts. Use razors instead of the teeth, and make those extenders polycarbonate or aluminium, saves lots of weight. Use metal hinges instead of skirt ones.

it does use alum extenders armour is 3mm titanium i think
antweight innards are 2 ant bats (not stacked) 2 piglets and blue control
splash was meant to be a middle weight but due to heavy motors in DSL it became a HW

Because every other DSL bots in the community is running under the same handicap.  It's sorta like cheating, you can do it, you just won't get a lot of respect for it.

And yes, unrealistic, intersecting spinners give an unfair advantage over a realistic ones.
Title: Re: Stags bot showcase
Post by: G.K. on January 17, 2010, 01:55:15 PM
Piglets have less torque, which is more important for drive motors.

These rollbars waste weight. Just add a few small/medium multi-extenders as high as you can on the baseplate since they are invulnerable when attached to the baseplate.

Hell, you might even just add 2 medium ones and use the Betas to self-right...
Title: Re: Stags bot showcase
Post by: Stagfish on February 16, 2010, 11:13:35 AM
nah i treid without the rollcage and originally had 2 mediums but it wont selfright

is it the only non-replica with a rollcage?
Title: Re: Stags bot showcase
Post by: SKBT on February 17, 2010, 05:22:51 PM
How come no one used the flipper stragety against spinners of heavy armor on the back and ram untill spinner stops then flip? It uses less chassis armor and you can use a weaker skirt as the flipper attachment. Example (SubZero Vs. The Mortition) http://robogladiators.com/120-09-Mortician-Subzero.mov

As for the Rollcage I would think that would make it harder to self-right in RA2. You might want to re-work the flippers to self-right the bot.

You really only need 3 ants on this. You don't have a lot of weight to work with, better spend it on armor/weapons/drive rather than battery power.

(^^ Not true for HWs though)

I amaware side hammers are abitch to build in the LW division but still it kinda fails in defense. You should make it invertible, and just attach the BSG's to the chassis. And alu extenders are not fitted as armor.

I think it would be better with the blue BSG's as well to fit with the skin.

take away the light teeth and use a straight shell panel to protect that motor (just attach it to the angled shell panel)

I noticed that 8 Storm pistons are very effective for flying(see my BOTM win 2 years back)

You can set them to fire at different times so you can make it tilt forward backwards and sieways, tough my desing lacks the ability to turn in air.

And you would need like 50 storm pistons to pick up a UHW.  Funny bot there; I thought of doing the same thing (a good near-5000 kg bot paired with a really light distraction.)

A Flee Beetle strategy won't work in this tourney though... basically Flee Beetle was a one-trick pony special for Survival of the Fittest.

I think you might be able to get astros on that bot. If you loose the poly carb extenders and connect them to the rear MEs instead of going ME-flipper maker-motor go ME-motor. If you still don't have enough weight re-build the chasis. (I think you could get it smaller with a little work)

It's original but not really that good to be honest.
Most current LW FSS are much more advanced.
1. No need for large ant wheels, use wides/normal ant wheels
2. Could have a smaller chassis
3. Beater bar is pointless
4. Use 90 degree flails

Moar razors.  Bane X has 12, and Stanley 2 has 10.  You can get away with 8 and it will be good against most bots, but you risk being outweaponed by other HS.  You can downgrade the chassis armor too to get weight.

I wonder how good using 2 razors per flail is compared to one razor per flail like most bots.
Title: Re: Stags bot showcase
Post by: Somebody on October 17, 2010, 03:56:21 PM
Or multiple carbon fibers. Also, just put another flail on, rather than having those extenders. That way if you lose a flail, you don't lose both weapons on that side.
Title: Re: Stags bot showcase
Post by: Clickbeetle on October 17, 2010, 04:27:37 PM
But the extenders are 1 kg lighter than an axle.  It could add up... 4 of them is a whole additional axle's worth of weight.  Take off the DSL bar, use a bit lighter armor and he could get 2 more axles + 2 more razors, which could be attached directly to the disc.  Presto, 10 razors (with 3 ants!)

Getting there, but swap the positions of the axles (the higher axles have the extenders while the lower ones don't). And while you're at it, rotate the lower rack 90-degrees so it can counter wedges.

Title: Re: Stags bot showcase
Post by: Naryar on November 30, 2010, 02:36:39 PM
Protect the mags and get faster drive. You don't really need bottom protection on a gut ripper, because if some good gut ripper gets under you and stays under it (and that will happen with such a slow drivetrain), you are most likely dead.
Title: Re: Stags bot showcase
Post by: Scorpion on November 30, 2010, 03:07:54 PM
Lower the mags (by lowering the chassis) and move them forward a bit aswell if you can, if weight distribution does work then that may help the front wedge.

And definately cut down on the side/rear wedges, even if you think you need them for stability, a change of drive system and better wheels (technos for example could help a lot with stability) may render them pretty much useless anyway.
Title: Re: Stags bot showcase

Title: Re: Stags bot showcase

I tried something a bit like this a while ago, but instead I had the wheel motors attached to linear actuators that'd in theory lift up the wheels so it was perfectly flat on the floor. It failed badly.

Title: Re: Stags bot showcase

True. If you set it up for a fast opponent, you'll be outwedged by a slow one. If you set it up for a slow opponent, you'll be outwedged by a fast one. Then there's wedge length to take into account. If the opponent has wedges that are 200cm long, then he'll be under you before his chassis reaches the smartzone.

I think you can get a smaller chassis anyway.

Also you probably would be better with razors or small DS teeth. Keep high-damage weapons for hammers.

Yeah, it's realistic, apart from the fact that the weapon seems to be going right through the nifty ofcourse.

Wait, nifty????

It doesnt, the axe actually goes round the chassis with some funky extender work.

Heres the flying bot that someone asked me about.
Other bots simply chase it out of the arena.

I think they're supposed to act like visible drive gears on the wheels.

If you manage to AI it, you should definitely enter it into the next tabletop tournament that does not require wheel drive and epically troll everyone :trollface

I have AI'ed it.

Although there is a lack of tabletop tournies.

Have you AI-ed it so it has controlled movement ?

It never did have controlled movement.

Maybe you should add horizontal pistons so it can propel itself in horizontally as well.

Not much point, it shoots away at high speeds. Adding side pistons would do nothing but flip it.

Hello, I decided to start building again if that's alright.

It's not that good, has stability problems and I think it's severely underweaponed, I'm also worried popups will flip it over and destroy the top.
Any help would be nice ;D

a hammer would easily knock that extender holding the beefy perm off, protect it

also if it's unstable try putting something at the bottom of the disk and see if that helps
Title: Re: Stags bot showcase
Post by: Stagfish on April 10, 2012, 03:30:50 PM
That's what I thought too but by putting an extender under the disc it stops it from being able to chew up wedges, the hammer thing though is interesting however. People don't usually use hammer bots in competitive play though (unless they want to be unique) so there's probably not much point wasting any wait guarding the extender.

Welcome back, Stag. =) Nice to see you building again.

As for the bot, it looks somewhat decent. I'd probably drop to Tite 3, Steel 3 is pretty inefficient. And it looks as if the razors might be cutting through the chassis, I'd try to remedy that.

Instead of using an extender, just attach the perm directly to the ME, eliminates one weak link.

Putting something under the disc is rarely helpful. What you want to do is get some stabilisers positioned in such a way that the disc is barely off the ground. A wider wheel stance helps with turning and stability too.

I remade it with a much smaller chassis and beater bars instead of razors but it can't even beat grog and it only beat second sentinel because it was in the combat arena and it was still on points.

I have officially decided I don't like HS's :l

Single HS are hard to make effective, sadly (because I love the things). Best way to do it is just make a Sheck Spinner.

Try something else instead :P

It's hardly crap, the weapon setup can just be made better and you can armor your chassis better as well.

One burst of the pistons and the match is won, Second sentinel just drives off the tabletop.

I really should enter one of these fly bots in a tabletop tournament.
