Post by: Pressure on April 03, 2006, 08:34:12 AM
Right im gopnna be pisting some of my bots. Be warned, my bots are not like others, mine are realistic.

Smash

Smash is my flagship bot, in stock RA2 it has gone through a lot of modifications and hopfully will continue through DSL.

2 Astroflights for drive. (Please bring back the HP-Ztek)
Tminus snapper for the Smash Hammer.
4 or 5 black batteries.
Steel armour
Middleweight.

New Bot!!!

Would you want a hug from Want A Hug? I initially wanted this to be a lightweight (it would be with aluminium) so it is a middleweight (249.8)

2 Slimbodys for drive
1 TMR3R thing for weapon drive
2 Little black bats
Aluminium armour

Another new bot.

Kill Sawz

Kill Sawz is a hard bot to explain, read the details

2 Daul E-Teks
6 Batle Packs
Steel Armour
Heavyweight
2 Kill Sawz

I think you can see what this bot does?

Kill Sawz is pretty cool but it looks like it would be hard to control.  Some supports sticking out front and back might help.

Want a Hug is a good design.  Looks solid, fast, and powerful.  Flails work better when they rotate on the same plane as the motor though (like on Weedy's Spike Beetle and my Microfuge).
Title: Pressure Bots
Post by: Pressure on April 20, 2006, 01:24:08 AM
Kill Sawz is allmost impossible to control, when it wants to turn i have to wait til the body is pointng in the right direction or it will go the opposite way. And the stablizing legs will just be ripped off.

NEW BOT!!!

Buttocks.

Dont let the name fool you, Buttocks is a flipper sort of bot but not in the conventional way. The picture demonstrates.

It flips from underneath so the chassis does the flipping, not the DSL bars.

Stats...

Armour: Aluminium
Weight: Middleweight
Drive: 2 NPC Fast motors
Weapon Motors: 2 of those green snappers (not the T-Minus ones)
It has around 4 battlepacks.

If that robot is called buttocks, you need to add one more thing to it ..... the flamethrower.

Someone did a series of bots called "Big Butt", and I laughed mine off when i saw them.  the only thing that was missing which I HAD to add was a flamethrower out the back.  I'll see if I can find a pic or two of the "new" version ....

Its been 3 years since i have posted a bot here...

I made a new bot in the Smash series of bots. This one is more of an Armour test mule that a fully fledged combat bot.

Sadly, it isn't much of a good bot.

I've been playing about a bit with heavy armour bots...

What i tried doing is minimize chassis size while trying to cram as much stuff on as possible.

Its powered bt 4 Geared E-Teks, with a few battlepacks inside. 1mm or 3mm Titanium armour for chassis defense and weight saving. Then the outside is armoured with several shel parts and a DSL Bar.

It managed to stand up to a good beating in a battle with Grog the Vengeful.

That's because the iron spikes keep the sledgehammers from hitting anything. I bet if it was modified it'd be real damaging.

Use more iron spikes rather than these sledgehammers and grippier wheels - like Vladiator's. If they're too small, then use Tornado's.

For some reason, i named this bot "Oswald".

Armor is 1mm Titanium (i think) to keep it a Middlewieght.
Hinged wedge to ease bots onto the disc. A piston to help with self-righting (it doesn't work as planned).

I know there is alot of wasted space, but this was one of the first bots i made when returning to RA2.

I might not be that much of a DSL builder, but I guess I can give you tips! Eliminate empty space, shrink the chassis. What's the air tank used for?

The Airtank is for the piston, which is mentioned in the post.

It has a piston for a srimech.  An interesting idea... but probably is quirky and unpredictable.  I would think you might be able to ditch the piston/airtank and replace them with a couple of snapper styple motors to flip the thing back onto its wheels.  The design look like it would fare well with that modification.

Good to have you back Pressure.  Make some more bots, get addicted again :P

Edit: aw crap... pressure cleared up the airtank question first.

Last time I saw a bot use it it was one of LRA2's. Can't remember which.
Simply put, it didn't work. Then again, it was a single Storm piston on a heavyweight.

nice to see old members returning

there are flaws in that bot but Im not the kind of person to dwell on those, instead I want to say great job on making a robot that really "captures" VS

the disc coming out of the chassis, 2 teeth on the disc, it may not be the most powerful robot but it certainly looks good   ;)

I am a bit of a stickler for some kind of realism, so i tend to try make the bots look realistic. I find it very hard to make a bot that can possibly win a tournament though (i.e Those multiple Red-Bird spinners from the BBEANS4 i think, the small bots).
Title: Re: Pressure Bots
Post by: Naryar on December 01, 2009, 05:12:40 AM
Weapon and drive are unsufficient.

Oh and you don't need a WP836E for that... 4-5 ants are enough, and ditch that piston srimech idea - it's a better idea, by far, to make your bot self-right with the weapon.

Possible BBEANS 6 entry.

Now the basics.

2 Battlepacks to suffcient power (battery drains reasonably quickly.)
2 TWM Drive Motors.
1 Double TWM for the Sheck (It's sufficient enough to spin it, for a lightweight.)
3mm Plastic for weight saving.
And the rest can be seen in the pictures.

I am working on some other lightweights for possible entry.

I had to sacrifice 4 panels and spikes to save weight unfortunatly.

I'll try the 4 Ant Batteries and see how it goes.

Say there Rotary-nut!  I like that bot.  How does it fare in battle? I have never attempted a LW FBS before. I figured that the bot would be too light to keep stable.  When it lands a solid hit, does the bot reflect back a lot because it is so light?

I fares rather admirably in battle. Doesn't really get flung around, but it does tend to Mauler Dance a bit.

P.S. Those Ant Batteries seem to pack a little more punch than the two Battlepacks it had before.

Title: Re: Pressure Bots
Post by: Pressure on January 20, 2010, 06:55:57 PM
The motor seems fine for spinning a saw blade.

It weigh's 246KG or something, and has the same armour as Smash Revolution.

It's only a test bot, so it will probally be improved over time.

I edited Smash Revolution and Speedbird a bit.

Smash Revo V1.1 now has beater bars in-place if the Lightning Spikes. They seem to fare a bit better in battle.

Speedbird 2 has had a major revidion since Speedbird V1.2 (It had an ineffective disc after the saw blade). It is now a VS with thicker armour (5mm Plastic rather than 1mm).

None of the innards have been changed to warrant an inside picture.
Title: Re: Pressure Bots
Post by: Naryar on January 22, 2010, 04:45:11 AM
While beater bars are better than Lightning spikes, in your design they make for bad panel coverage... You risk having your panels ripped off before the weapons are.
Title: Re: Pressure Bots

What would a better way of mounting them be? Possibly upright?
Title: Re: Pressure Bots

Probably upright, or extending from the chassis... still i don't think these are a good choice in such few numbers.
Title: Re: Pressure Bots
Post by: Pressure on January 22, 2010, 04:57:09 AM
Hmm... I'll try them upright, but will also try some of the other spikes ect.

[EDIT] I tried 4 Large Beater Bars, they seem to perfrom pretty good. HAd to sacrifice a battery, but it still has plenty of juice.

3 bots made for a possible BBEANS6 entry.

Some extra facts.

Flare - The first of the concept bots, and my first Flamethrower bot. In order to get the wheels armoured, the two DSL bars on the side are attached with Beater Bars, in the hope that when the Flamethrower had done it's magic, either them or the Spike Stripes would finish it off. It failed.

Precision Impact - Was called Gymnologise (Ancient Greek for "To debate while naked"). Besides Smash Revolution LW, this is a serious candidate for BBEANS6. Weighs 249kg, with Spinner Sections on the top, front and rear. Tends to do fairly well in battles, weakness is not being able to self right.

The Bot With No Name - An idea that i thought would work, but didn't. It didn't cause enough damage to even get close to destroying the opponent.

Your bots have a certain look to them that I like alot.

I think it has something to do with that they are not small boxes with a Perm and a DSL bar on a pole attached.

but maybe you could upgrade the armour to make it nearer the weight limit. (Aluminium has bad strength to weight ratio)

I really like these bots. On the first one, if you still want a saw bot, I would exchange the chewblades for the other type of sawblades. On the drum and hammer's, I'm not sure but I think the aluminum skirts won't let the bot come in closer to the weapon. I like your style a lot.

It's very close to the start of the components - here, DSL 2.1's Second Sentinel

2 30 0 1750 0

^^ That is Steel 3 ^^

2 is the number of armor (0 = plastic, 1 = Alu, 3 = T,i 2 = Steel), 30 is the weight, 1750 is the armor strength and you need two zeros placed like this.

You can see them all if you decompile ra2.cfg and open up Armor_Definitions.

Bleh. It's easy to counter should they be entered in a tourney. Just change the super armor to the legit counterpart. (Unless the weight multiplier was changed, which means the closest-by-weight armor possible should be chosen)

I think people can make a good judgement on what is overly strong or overdeveloped for the robot's class, too, should it be showcased.

It really does weigh 288.3kg... I don't think weight matters as much with IRL style/tourneys. Look at Billet 3 in BoF2, it waaaayyy underweight and it finished 3rd.

Nicely done there. I like that tail especially. Not entirely certain about the exposed motors, but I suppose they work.

The motors are a bit of a compromise really. I tried to get some Astroflights under the motor so the wheels would be shielded, but the way the motor is positioned made it impossible.

Point of Impact.

It's a MW, with a MOE Perm for the weapon. Armour is one of the thinnest plastics to keep it a MW. The angled sheets are for stability, it was very unstable while turning. It hits big with the weapon. If BB10 or another IRL tourney are DSL2, this will be an entry.

Wedges work pretty much the same as they did in 2.1.  That bot won't get under very much, but it does look nice.  Aside from the piston not facing the correct direction, but you can't do anything about that.  I wonder if I should make another style with the piston positioned for rear-hinged flippers.

My first try with proper extender/frame work...

RA2CF is a gondsend for this stuff.

Also, an idea for the next DSL version maybe? Would love some extended/belt/Perm style E-Tek and Mag Motors. Perms are weird for me, not a big fan of them really. Also, the 6-Mag is more powerful but very tricky to use.

that hammer from a month ago is sexy as hell.

i don't think DSL will ever get updated again unless someone else ends up taking charge sadly

Droping Point is my favorite here. though there are at least 3 beta clones in the tournament I still like the style of them

Non final entry for GTM Live. First legit go at an extender bot I guess... Well, better than the previous one.

I already know how to make this look/perform better.

make the extender frame out of beaters

I'm not a big fan of using beaters for chassis...

Anyway, another iteration.

The frame is all Titanium extenders. Wider scoop and longer chassis.

Both of these are cool, what's a judge thruster?

There's a bot ingame called The Judge, a real bot with a powerful hammer/"Gavel". For the game to replucate this, there is an invisible thruster to give it more power.

See this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEjum2EkFj8

In my finding they have to be placed a certain way to make them work properly. Most of the time it just makes the robot flip.

there's like a rocket on the back end of the hammer to make it go faster
