Pixel's Nooby Showcase!
« on: March 26, 2014, 06:03:22 PM »

Sir Stabsallott, my first proper battle bot with DSL (so in other terms, my first ever).
This thing packs a punch considering how simple the design is.

PARTS LIST:
2x Slimbody Motor
1x RCU
3x Ant Battery
4x Baseplate Extender (black n red thingies)
2x Vlad Wheel (is invertible!)
3x 20 cm Aluminum Extender
1x 40 cm Aluminum Extender
2x Angle Connector (90* option)
5x Razor Spike (razor for best spike)
3x Hex Plate (1 master, 2 weapon slave)
2x Skirt Hinge
4x Angled Aluminum Skirt (40 cm)
2x Aluminum Skirt (40 cm)

Topdown shot of the guts:

Specifications:
Weightclass: Lightweight
Weight: 240.9

Tips are welcome!

Not too bad for a first bot, you seem to have the right idea with the ant batteries, razors and ME's instead of BA's.
It's usually best to focus the weapons on the front of the bot, though, so it packs more of a punch. Angle connectors are also nearly always a waste of weight. The skirts are looking a bit useless too - maybe you could turn it into a wedge? :)
I'll leave the rest of the advice to others, I'm a bit rusty

Yeah! I think I could make it into a wedge if I were to extend the front and back skirts, which should (hopefully) work. I'll also see if I can place some sort of spike(s) as well, just so I'm not pushing bots about. I originally but the skirts there because most of my previous designs had a tendency to "get rekt" by VS/VH/VA's, causing the weapons to fall off. I'll see what I can do.

The second rendition of Sir Stabsallot, Slice n' Dice.
The only changes I've made are:
4x 80 cm Angled Aluminum Skirt
1x 80 cm Aluminum Skirt
2x Copal Gearmotor
2x Ant Blade
4x Ant Battery (just so the gearmotors wouldn't drag that much power down, even at 2 amps.)
The front and back wedge scoop the opposing bot up, directly into the blades!
(if there are better back mounted weapons I should use, do tell)
(I also got rid of the weapon slave hex plates, the 40 cm extender, the razors, and the angle connectors)

EDIT: I scrapped the master hex plate, the gearmotors and the ant blades to make just a wedge. I then used the extra weight to upgrade my armour to aluminum 5 and change the skirts to titanium.

You might want to consider mounting the slimbodies internally, that way they won't be so vulnerable and you'll have spare weight for weaponry.

Ant-Blades and Copals suck as weapons and motors respectively, what I suggest is using a piglet equipped with a bar or disc weapon of sorts.

Other than that, the bot isn't too bad for a first.
