Title: PhilEtBabe Elbite JunkYard
Post by: philetbabe on October 10, 2008, 07:12:37 AM
In the purpose of the Elbite tournament, i've build 4 bots and i try to select 'the best one'.
As long as i reject one, i will post it here. this means i didn't succes in making this bot a good challenger. Perhaps one of you will take the idea and improve it.

So this is my first junky bot : Vertical spinner with low profile and a piston. The idea was, for king of the hill or tabletop, to invite foes up its top then eject them or rip them.

Good idea, bad realisation : not effective against poker in tabletop, this bot gives a good fight on king of the hill but it wide structure made it  an easy target on the chaos of the hill.

so i say goodbye to this one.

Hex plates do damage.

I think the turtle shell plates do damage.

Wouldn't you transform this thread in one where everybody could post their bots?

I have a poker/wedge hybrid for the tabletop. It owns, but half of the time throws itself OOTA when AIed.

I have a drum for all three. Maybe this could be like the RAW Bot Showcase.

No problem, as long as it is a junkyard : i think this is kind of fun to discover the real opponents the day the tournament open.

Your bot seems over-powered. Moreover, why such a complicated attachement of the extenders in the front ?
finaly, why do you left this bot ? why do you feel it was not good ?
About he AI for the offensive bots , did you want it to work like a pusher or like a whipper ?

This was overpowered, and with its lack of weapons, it was a bad rammer. I was trying to make it like BrasOuvert, but it didn't work out.

Mah bad bot...

I decided against it because it wasn't very versitile.

Here's a possible candidite:

Be aware Reier that this thread is for the 'bad  bots' only. the ones we test and that did not reach our hopes. The 'good ones' will be discovered when the match will be opened.

Uh...whoops! Edited. Sorry. I'm not even sure if I'm going to enter that one anyway.

Bras Ouvert is pretty good, and it has a good design, but it doesn't work on a 4wd bot.

here is another failure :
Too fast for tabletop, even with a low speed on its AI,
and the front too heavy (or the wheels too much on the back) for king of the hill : climb too slowly : too bad !

Yeah, Piglets usually don't work too well for drive motors.

Edit: Cool paintjob.

I bet you that if you used better motors, it would get up the hill faster.

My last chess :
VS that done good on King of the hill but which are really asshole on tabletop.
1 HS too bad.

But finally, i found a bot that please me and i send it to elbite, you'll discover it when the match will start. But, promised, this is not a slow bot with big hammer on its front !

Piglets for drive = fail.

Also LOL at your drums.

I Like this bot, but I decided against it:

Tabletop:

I'm going to enter a bot that can do WAY more damage.

You're getting better each time you post a bot!

I know this is a junkyard, but: the flipper is WAAY too fast for a tabletop and for a flipper. Also, i don't see the point of this small caddie wheel on top of the JX's.

I don't see what's wrong with a fast flipper. I'm pretty sure that speed could allow for it ti attack side on, and it may also aid the main attack.
Title: PhilEtBabe Elbite JunkYard
Post by: Naryar on October 21, 2008, 05:28:21 PM
A very fast flipper is generally less efficient, wedge-wise.

And a thing as fast as this on a tabletop gets OOTA easily.

But if you reduce the maxspeed...

I actually only used normal t64's on this bot, & it still OOTAs sometimes. Ilike this bot, it just wasn't that destructive.
Edit: I AIed it & it never drives straight because it's front-heavy. :ermm:

Has anybody a vertical spinner as a failure ? does anyone try to make a good vertical spinner  on tabletop ?

A VS on a tabletop? Wrong choice IMO. In tabletop, pokers, pushers, rammers and flippers own.

It could depend though! There is a way to edit the bots .py so that it can avoid falling.

Low Bots=Success on Tabletop because Low Bots= Stability

I made a VS, but I'm not going to show it because it's probably going to be my entry   Assuming that ELBITE actually happens, which I'm not quite convinced of yet.  But I like the idea behind it, so I'm getting ready just in case.

Let's just say I got a little... unorthodox... for the tabletop.

A promising ELBITE KotH bot, Stormhammer

Yeah, this is my version of Haymaker. 1mm titanium (i love this armor).

I thought a SnS would be the perfect choice for a tabletop because it was fast (getting on the top quickly) and having all-around offense (since it's a rumble) but NO!

That thing's too unstable to be used decently in a hilly arena, especially on top of a hill. A good blow will make it fly.

I still can't find what bot type could be efficient in a tabletop...

Did you try with a shorter DSL Bar ?

Here is an old attempt to make a bot available for a 4 fighters arena. It'is heavy, but i did not even try to make it MW : it always finishes with its long legs up. Funny anyway.
