Post by: philetbabe on October 30, 2008, 04:13:30 PM
as time goes on, i will complete this thread.

here is a Heavy bot which gives good result. not AIed yet.
I still have to admit that it had a some luck when fighting Mako and it has been a disaster against she beast.

Good bot. <3 Maybe a little underpowered IMO, though. Otherwise, looks cool. Maybe you could use lighter wheels & use the extra weight to put more batteries in.

Edit: why do you have numbers a the begining of ur team names? (ie. "8 Team Dragon")

i have a program that change the number of the teams directory under AI/ and rebuild the bindings.py and teams.txt -> it allows so to select randomly the 16 teams i have in event. Because of this 'mix of teams', it is useful to quickly link a name of team under RA2 and it's number as a team{number} under the AI/ directory.

Nice bots! The weapon system on schrodinger cat looks awesome. Nice way to set yourself apart from all the other VS's with hammers. It could use some sort of wedge to get under bots, though.

cat is nice too, though I agree with Reier that it needs more batteries, and lighter wheels seem the obvious choice for weight reduction. Shiny hubs will save you 14 kgs, which is almost enough for another Battlepack... you can also use something besides a spike strip in front. And that's a clever way to combine underside protection with side stabilizers.

here is a bot that's look like an urealistic MW spinner .. and that happens to be a realistic LW whipper !

but not very dangerous. I post it anyway, it may give idea for futur good ones.

armor is plastic 1 : no bot can reach it !
most of the time lost battle by immobilization when another bot goes beyond it.

Honestly this weapon is really bad.

Dual drum is completely pointless if you have one with 14kg for weapon. Even True Love has more weight on it's weapon.

Just stick to that front drum and make it larger and stronger.

Looks like a very good bot. I kinda liked the version with the top drum, though. Firebeetle has a HW with the dual-drum setup, and it works very well. I think if you got more weight on the top drum and used the angled attach point on the Perm to move it closer to the front, the design could work.

Medecine looks awesome, very unique design. And good job with the dual drum setup on Call of the Tomb, I wouldn't expect that on a LW.

I have to make it more compact, relook it, certainly rename it, but it looks promising .

It uses the 'SpinServo AI' which drives the servo motor.

here is the reshaped "Drowned" renamed as "poison of Maatet" (one of the scorpion guard of goddess Isis)

(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/64818maatet.png)

SpinServo Ai : 2 custom zones are defined. when an ennemy enter on of theses, the servo turns to face its weapons on the good direction. thus, if 'Poison of maatet' is taken apart from behind, better then turning its all chasis, it turns its weapon.

Very well built.

Although i'm not sure if that burst motor with spikes is really worth the weight, and i'd change the hammer's positioning. They could hinder the wedge especilly with wide-wedged bots like InfCon.

Still a great bot, if these fights are AIed.

(boardgame collectors will notice that i missed space to finish the bot name)

HW - titanium 10 - rammer (when AIed as whipper, it starts well then get immobilized !)

This bot is in the sad spirit of GBBS and BO : breaks ennemy weapons and than get to a slow, slow win.

Break all Steel Meatball iron spike (fine), but SM breaks its 2 w (better) :-(

i've made light changes to the bot :
reduce wheels size and protect them with hard mounted weapons (no more DSL axle mount)

AIed it with a modified Whipper (add FBS immobility management) :

give better result, particulary against the so feared Steel Meatball that still get naked but without breaking AGTFO(S) wheels :

against VS, well it just wait to be beaten, its many pointy tips finished to break one or two hammer, there, most of the VS starts to become instable and the awful green thing may go under their chassis. Its heavy protection (titanium 10) allow it to resist until the VS breaks their weapons.

Against others, it just whips around.

and the heavy one called 'Death or Glory' - i was listening to the Clash when i built it-
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/6752hw one.png)
The burst original position is Up : this weapon is not made to flip the foes but to strike them if a bot with good wedge goes under it.

And if you want to try them :

Battery power on your LW will be a problem, and i don't know if the chicken glitch works with a near-30kg drill.

Otherwise, not bad.

I really like the HW. The LW is good too, but I agree with Nar.

That drivetrain is overkill for a LW side popup.

Haha, I'm making a team called the Inquisition for the GTM pack.

still working (slowly) on my team Don Quichotte (many ways to write his name),

here is the second LW (another model for the poor knight-errant ) : Amandis de Gaule.

(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/81918Amandis.jpg)

titanium 1
Perm 80
3 ant battery

look like to have empty space ... yes, but this keep the bot 'realistic' according to DSL.

For those who have not read yet the story of don quichotte , you can get it here :

and here is don quichotte, the odd sad-headed knight ...

... almost ineffective in all situation, much as its novel twins.

I like the look of it a lot. Maybe a bit underpowered though.

Interesting design, and my thanks for having your own personal building style and not cloning.

However your weak spinner plates will fall easily, it's underpowered by 75 amps (and that's not a little bit), i bet you can make your extender work lighter, and all of your hammers have really short reach.

Few words about Don Quichotte AI.

(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/24084donQuichotteBanking.png)

As shown on the picture above, the particularity of don Quichotte is that all of its building have been made with an
angle of 45° with the chassis.
So, when Aied and entering arena, the bot seems leaned (but indeed its chassis is horizontal). so, just after the count down,
a 'Fire' command must be executed to restore the bot in a good position. Because i wanted not only 1 but 3 Fire command with a light delay
between them, i added the code in the Tick function.

here is the code added to omni.py and renamed as DonQuichotte.py :
Code: [Select]
class donQuichotte(AI.SuperAI):
    "donQuichotte strategy"
    name = "donQuichotte"
    # like omni but give 3 'Fire' command after the count down
    def __init__(self, **args):
        AI.SuperAI.__init__(self, **args)

        self.reloadTime = 0
        self.reloadDelay = 3
        self.InverterTime  = 0
        self.fireDone = 0
        ...

    def Tick(self):
        # fire weapon
        if self.weapons:

            if ( self.fireDone < 3 ) and (self.InverterTime <= 0) :
                self.Input("Fire", 0, 1)
                self.InverterTime = self.reloadDelay
                self.fireDone += 1

            ....
AI.register(donQuichotte)

This a bot freely inspired from

Craaig's bot

(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/5477tributeToCraaig.png)

still some moblity trouble : whith those SOW bots (servo motor may turn spin-motor) the bot must be stable in all direction.

i haven't found the good way to stabilize this bot. Idea (and showcase are welcomed)

The chassis up in the air is unique. Makes for a bit higher CG though. These are cool ideas, Phil. You're inspiring me again,... if I had the time.:(

i have to admit that was Craaig's idea.

these last times, there have been many newbie with original ideas : their bots have many weakness but new concepts are emerging.

stable, but slow, slow , so sloooooooooow .... that it is sometime motionless!

Hehehe. That happens with tank treads. :P

What happens if you lower the plow to 'almost ground' level?

As for Don Quichotte, I think it's better if the chassis is tilted the other way so it faces the floor. I think that increases the wedginess.

I do really like your rebuild, I gotta say.

EDIT: As for stabilization, isn't there a connection point on the other side of the tank treads that could be utilized?

That design is unstable by nature. There's so much forward weight and no stabilizers...
