Title: Pepsi and his DSL robots
Post by: P3PSl on February 10, 2015, 02:05:11 AM
So this is my DSL 2.1 showcase.
Don't play this mode much as I'm super used to Square Extenders but w/e.
First off is an Idea for Battlebots X
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/98926CRIKEY!.jpg)
Its name is CRIKEY!, 798.0 kg, normal npcs
back tail acts as a scrimech/stabiliser.
two versions.
One were its mouth starts like in the top right, goes back at the same angle of top middle and comes down, acting as a clamp, other is opposite, acting as an axe.

I like the first way better but the second is more effective.

this may seem dumb but we're not allowed crusher motors for battlebots x are we?

It needs a better stinger tail. :P

looks quite good. the mouth opens a bit to wide I think but I can see why you did it. you could skin a troath between the jaws :)

Post by: Shield on February 10, 2015, 05:05:52 AM
You could send in two variants. Massimo allows interchangeable weapons. but id personally skip the hassle and just send in the clamp version. Last time a clamp, Captain Grabbermore managed to do quite well

EDIT: in DSL 2.1 black batteries are terrible. Spinning motors need only one ant per motor to last a minute, so I'd suggest having 4-8 ants i there while using battle packs to juice up the bursts

RFS would be proud.

Also, the wedge is kinda bothersome to me. If you want to keep it and have it resemble a crocodile, I'd attach some spike strips on the wedge or something else creative.

It's alright, mouth opens a bit wide and the teeth look a bit odd to me.
Meh. Maybe i'm just being pedantic. Nice paint job though.

Small black batteries = very bad for power, do not use them.

Ant batteries = very good for power, you need 3 or 5 ants.
Title: Re: Pepsi and his DSL robots
Post by: Badnik96 on February 10, 2015, 11:01:16 AM
Actually for that robot you'd need seven plus however many ants the judge burst needs. I'm not certain how many that is.
Title: Re: Pepsi and his DSL robots
Post by: Jaydee99 on February 10, 2015, 12:12:59 PM
I'd keep it as it is, because it looks kick-ass.

thats awesome
Title: Re: Pepsi and his DSL robots
Post by: helloface on February 10, 2015, 12:51:52 PM
Use reds instead of blacks when powering burst motors like those. On the wedge, you don't need the multi-extender. And imo, clamp would be cooler. I like the skin too, btw
Title: Re: Pepsi and his DSL robots
Post by: P3PSl on February 11, 2015, 02:36:16 AM
So I took pretty much everyone's advice and I improved CRIKEY!
He ways 799.7 kg now and is much more effective.
'Tail' acts more of a flipper now
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/98744croc2.jpg)

I also however have a sort of Joke Bot which was going to be my actual entry but looking back I'm glad I decided against it.
It's name is Toe Nee Abb Ott
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/16797TONYY.jpg)
Sorry if the bottom offends anyone, It doesn't actually say the word but, you know
180ish degree axe
extremely unstable
798.3 kg

This is The Walker Dead, my first successful attempt at a walker.
1199.7 kg, moves at an alright speed imo.
Does damage when other robots attack it with the beater bar legs.
Those are just Mag Motors.
Might be my HW or SHW if I upgrade it for BB X. Just imagine AMC and Soylent Green Ads.
And Yes I know the name is extremely Tacky.

Quick Question, if you look at the pic at the top right you would notice the hammer is going through the the Snow Plow, is that legal in IRL?
Title: Re: Pepsi and his DSL robots
Post by: RedAce on February 13, 2015, 07:53:29 AM
That probably would be considered IRL since you can cut a slot the plow.

Edit: Oh yeah, can you show a vid on how it works? I'd love to see it walk.

I don't think it's possible to AI that. Looks cool though.

Someone's attempting walkers?! I'm all ears! (mostly eyes actually)

It's definitely a curious walking motion but if you stacked another burst motor on each leg you could achieve a more legit walk. You'd require some patience to synchronize all 12 burst motors though
Title: Re: Pepsi and his DSL robots
Post by: Naryar on February 18, 2015, 08:46:15 AM
I get it that walkers are made to be cool, but why HAMMER walkers ? You have no traction at all and cannot position yourself, which is very important for a hammer.

It's like making a rammer walker.

If I would build a walker (well, I've had one in my showcase but it didn't work) I would either go full artbot, or go HS.

Title: Re: Pepsi and his DSL robots
Post by: Domanating on February 18, 2015, 09:21:51 AM
I get it that walkers are made to be cool, but why HAMMER walkers ?

For the current walking pattern of that bot, I don't think using wheels would make much of a difference. Also most wheels are very wide and for such short legs, the bot probably wouldn't even move.

A bit off topic here but I tried to build a 6 legged walker just now with Ironforge bursts and they havoked like crazy 100% of the time they were activated.
Looks like DSL is the only mod that allows good walkers.
Title: Re: Pepsi and his DSL robots
Post by: Naryar on February 18, 2015, 09:24:33 AM
To make good walkers we need slow, very strong burst motors. And stronger extenders as well.

So we should add that to DSL.

Title: Re: Pepsi and his DSL robots

IRL or Standard?
If it's IRL you may want to add some axle support to the perm, I know the chassis cooould be seen as axle supporting but it would for sure look better with a flippermaker covering the axle or something :P
Also I'd totally downgrade the armour and upgrade the drive, I imagine that'll be pretty slow right now and some speedier drive would really work in it's favour considering what it is.
Looks nice otherwise, I love the eyes :P
Title: Re: Pepsi and his DSL robots
Post by: Naryar on February 21, 2015, 09:35:46 AM
Al 10 = no

also it's far too slow. Really.
Title: Re: Pepsi and his DSL robots
Post by: P3PSl on February 23, 2015, 04:18:47 AM
So I updated The Parlour. NPC Norms are much better, weighs the exact same but the armour is really weak (P5) but I moved the Perms up closer to the front and the wedge is better so it does damage easier.

You cant see him there but theres a little spider in the hole, between the two blades.

So this is Echidna. Totally an Original Idea, where its whole point is to be hit.
Uses same walker system as My other walker, but this one is faster (i think) but slower to turn.
It is invertible, so that's good I guess.
Not my absolute favourite robot, but I've wanted to try the design ever since I saw pomf.
No idea what I have with animal robots though.
Anyways, enjoy.

I see the legs. But, they look like they're just uselessly floating around inside the chassis. Please, tell me how this walks xD

Works quite well, and Echidna looks cool.
I'd be worried about axes and stuff but not a lot you can do there if you want the invertibility.

Yeah, you need to make this thing an armored spike ball. It's way too exposed for how heavy it is. I do really like it though.

I have returned with this... thing.

So this is probably my Lightweight for BBX.
Shame he never played for the Bulls as it would make more sense if he did. Oh well.
Really generic design but shoves really well
Plastic V

you only need 2 ant batteries. use the weight for more weapons n stuff
Title: Re: Pepsi and his DSL robots
Post by: Naryar on March 10, 2015, 08:07:06 AM
2 is minimum, 3 is a good choice, 4 if you really don't want your battery to weaken. 6 is overkill.

Is it invertible ?

Work on keeping your cursor out of your splash screenshots :P
Title: Re: Pepsi and his DSL robots

So I made a middleweight for BBX
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/58689vege.jpg)
Vegemite Sandwhich.
Titanium 3, Axes slow to retract. 397.2kg Npc Norms.
Is that custom plow okay for BBX? I haven't changed any of the competitive stats, just the skin and name.

Fixed Shaq and yeah, it's invertible but only because of the gmf. (is that allowed or does the wheel have to break through the chassis for IRL?)
Title: Re: Pepsi and his DSL robots
Post by: cephalopod on March 11, 2015, 04:27:46 AM
As long as the plow is a separate component to the original plow (doesn't overwrite the original) I imagine MassimoV would allow it.
Title: Re: Pepsi and his DSL robots
Post by: Naryar on March 11, 2015, 04:55:51 AM
middleweight is underpowered and i believe you can use BSG's for that.
Title: Re: Pepsi and his DSL robots
Post by: P3PSl on March 11, 2015, 06:19:40 AM
Small Update:
Edited Vegemite
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/89130vege2.jpg)
6 Ants inside, those connectors are medium beater bars (connected to the samurai sword) a lot more effective and it doesn't take 19 years to retract when its blades are swung.
(sorry for the pixelation couldn't be bothered going back in and taking a proper photo.)
Title: Re: Pepsi and his DSL robots
Post by: Shield on March 11, 2015, 07:15:08 AM
I like the fact that you skinned the plow to match the bot. I should probably do that with my own stuff someday.

You're pretty much dead if you face a flipper, but it looks good. That's what matters
Title: Re: Pepsi and his DSL robots
Post by: helloface on March 11, 2015, 12:35:34 PM
I like what you did with the plow. You should try some more complicated designs next, you seem good enough at simple bots that you should be able to pull off a decent looking one.
Title: Re: Pepsi and his DSL robots
Post by: Naryar on March 11, 2015, 03:32:33 PM
considering the medium beaters are never gonna hit the enemy, you can go for a simple, lighter extender.

Or simply snapper load the burst motor's axle out of the chassis, and directly attach the katana to the burst motor.
Title: Re: Pepsi and his DSL robots
Post by: P3PSl on March 13, 2015, 07:02:55 AM
Here's an Idea I had for BBX, probably not going through with it.
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/38368Coat Of Arms.jpg)
Kanga has Steel 10 and Emu Titanium 10.
Kanga's more effective but Emu can do more damage.
Bottom right is what they'd look like together.
But yeah, just an idea I had as my SHW lack in everything, but I'll keep trying.
Title: Re: Pepsi and his DSL robots
Post by: Badnik96 on March 13, 2015, 07:04:53 AM
Your axe with the cutting tooth does no damage like that because of the normal it has. Consider a large DS tooth if you really want to use a tooth as your axe weapon.

another parasite bot :O
Title: Re: Pepsi and his DSL robots
Post by: Badnik96 on March 13, 2015, 07:11:33 AM
It's not a parasite bot, he just made it so the skins match up when they're stuck together in clusterbot fashion.
Title: Re: Pepsi and his DSL robots
Post by: Shield on March 13, 2015, 08:37:32 AM
i like the splitting badge. I'd say it's a contender for the SHW division should you enter it. Unless you;re fighting a SHW turtle, I can't imagine many bots being able to effectively hold off two heavy hitters.

a bit of advice, you might want to replace Emu's wheels with Hypnos, since it can self right on it's own with its hammers invertibility should be the least of your worries.

Title: Re: Pepsi and his DSL robots
Post by: P3PSl on March 24, 2015, 05:27:11 AM
Because we got another week for BBX I'm going through and remaking what I didn't like.
So I made another Lightweight.

(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/78621Chew Thru.jpg)
Should I have the beaters point outwards instead of matching up with the blade?

PIGLETS FOR DRIVE ARGH

yeah don't do that. get slimbodies. Also you're wasting weight with the solid discs which could be used for better/more weapons.

The hex plates are there as without that little height it hits the floor way too much. I could probably brind the two disks back but I think they'd collide.

Do armoured disks even have more hp? And I'll get rid of the piglets for the drive.

from this perspective it doesn't look like the discs would collide if you put them a bit closer to each other. saves you about 10 kg. if you have the minimum of ants in it you would have around 16 kg to play with

Even though it could be built better according to others, I like the design of it. Can it self right pretty easily because of the disk angles?

IN MY DEFENCE FOR 20 BATTERIES;
The Beta Motor would run out of charge after 15~ hits but now it normally lasts the match, and it improves the retract speed.

The lowest picture is what it looks like with the protection and the axe hammer

No, it's just I gave you the wrong advice because I thought you had a different weapon motor. The spring loaded is a burst and not a spin motor so it needs full power. Sorry if I confused you.
