NoiseyGiraffe's DSL Showcase
« on: August 05, 2013, 06:35:08 PM »
Hello everyone. I've have recently joined and I am going to post the robots I have designed so that you guys can help me improve and become a competent roboteer.

The Brick

The first robot I designed. Really basic, 4 wheel drive, a few spikes and was basically built for me to see what I have to do to make a working robot.

Chedder

Tried to make a moving weapon on this one. The flipper is underpowered. It drives better than The Brick. It is slower and easier to control. It can also self right.

Hurricane

My first attempt to build a serious robot. The robot is totally unstable when the disc is spinning. It will roll when turning and can flip itself if moving forwards or backwards.

So that's what I've done in about 2 days. Comments, criticism and advice is welcomed.

Hello. If you're using DSL 2, switch all your batteries to ant batteries. Shrink your chassis and read Naryar's extender work tutorial in the Tutorials and Tips section.

If this is DSL 2.1, the rule is one ant battery per spin motor including an extra reserve battery. This is because, for some odd reason, spin motors all drain 10 amps and are basically liars. Though the amp drain of Burst-Motors is exactly what it is. Also if this is 2.1, you may want to consider using Multi-Extenders as they are lighter and have more attachment points than a baseplate anchor.

If this is DSL 3, keep the batteries, though maybe you could remove the odyssey batteries in The Brick and in general I think Hurricane would need better supports and a better name of you're trying to avoid being called-out be S.H.I.E.L.D. More general advice would be to swap out some of the wheels for those with better grip and maybe shrink the chassis, as MassimoV said.

It's DSL 2.1, the baseplate anchors are big.

Welcome to GTM.
Read all Naryar's tutorials. Those will help a lot.
AND *directed at Paranoia* the rule is a MINIMUM of 1 ant batteries per spin motors; however you shouldn't use more than 2 ant batteries per spin motor. Also, you should only use the black batteries in DSL3.

a general tip for rammers (particularly the brick) is to put as many razor tips on as possible, works wonders in terms of damage. try having the 4 NPCs in the back with hypnos (decent small wheels, probably wont intersect each other).
as for cheddar you really need some grippier wheels... something like techno destructo wheels should do well.

plus there is almost NO way those are near 800kg each, unless you used some absurdly overkill armor. they can be so much more if you were to just add more by way of weaponry.
How you make Alarm Clock Pizza is:
Step 1: You buy an alarm clock from the store, and then you have to break it and put it in the sauce.
Step 2: Fold the sauce in 5 slices and put it in the dough.
Step 3: Paint the eggs with a pitcher of a clock showing what time you want to wake up and eat pizza for breakfast.
Step 4: Put the eggs in the dough.
Step 5: Make it flat into a round shape and draw the time you want on it.
Step 6: Put some old steel to prevent other peple from stealing it.
Step 7: Make it flat and cut into 60 slices 1 for each minute in 1 our.
Step 8: Put in the oven set the timer to 30048813.2884 seconds and put the temperature on 'Volcano' setting.
Step 9: If you think it is take to long, then get yor alarm clock and set it to now so that it will ring and you can take it out.
Step 10: Take it out uv the uvin wen it is redy and go to bed. In the morning eat pizza and also eat yor hands bi mistake.

If you're going to use hypno wheels, lower the chassis hight to make it invertible.

I think Hurricane would need better supports and a better name of you're trying to avoid being called-out be S.H.I.E.L.D.

Haaiiiiiiiii.

Anyways, this is DSL 2.1 (Round steel extender) so, get rid of the black batteries. They fail. Hard. You only need one ant battery per motor, burst motors however require what is needed in the description. Also, use Multi Extenders, they're lighter than Baseplate Anchors.

The Brick
The wheels, what's wrong with the wheels? They look weird. Swap out all those batteries for ants and add on more weapons. Lowering the Chassis height even lower would be good too. Use hypno wheels.

Chedder
Anyways, same as Brick, replace the batteries with ants, and get the required amount of power for your burst motor. Get grippier wheels, and moar battery power.

Hurricane
Never use T-Extenders, they're weak. Use a Beater bar instead. And the wheels on the extenders are only going to slow you down unless you put them on 360 extenders. You're better off without them anyways, just the extenders there are already good. Use Techno Destructo or Hypno Wheels, they make the bot go faster because of their grip.

And by the way, there's already a Hurricane in GTM. Just sayin'.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I've not had much time to redo all my robots but have built a new version of Chedder

Biggest improvement is the ground clearance, and because of the lower centre of gravity it drives a lot better. The flipper is better than the last one but it still isn't as powerful as id like.

I'm thinking of combining my other two robots by having Hurricane's disc horizontally mounted on to The Brick's body. It would be more of a Hypnodisc shaped design rather than the disc being on top and being a full body spinner of sorts. I would also hope to keep it invertable. What do you guys think?

Don't use Multi Extenders outside of the chassis. They are just as heavy as Aluminum extenders, but they have less HP.

And that burst motor is underpowered.

Don't use mag snappers, they are basically the same as BSGs.

Hi guys, I'm back for another attempt at this. I've now gotten used to the components and I now think I can build a competent robot. The only design I'm going to show is The Point. Its designed to get underneath a robot and damage the underneaths of the robot. it also has the potential to flip the robot. It is invertible and has a pneumatic spike on the back so it can attack when inverted. It uses 4 Ant Batteries, 2 NPC-T64 Fast motors for drive and a Perm 80 for the blade. Armour is 5mm Titanium and the weight is 526.9.

you still have alot of weight left over. Try and slim it down to a middle weight, or try and fill it with other weapons.
