Yes I know it looks awful

Yes I know it is awful

hey there.
I guess you`re aiming for the IRL look of robots.
you should change the burst motors to the green ones. they are lighter and better IIRC.
Don`t use piggletdrive. Use npcs or mags.
and you should use antbatterys for almost everything.
try to build to the weightlimit.
you should try to make this bot a MW.
as wheels you should use hypnodiscs wheels.

but I`m sure some other members have more stuff to say

piglets are not drive motors
mag snappers suck (bsgs are the same for less weight)
build the the weight limit
you only need 1-2 ants per spin motor
blabla etc

i'll let the guys that are more experienced at dsl (i like stock) fill in the rest
How you make Alarm Clock Pizza is:
Step 1: You buy an alarm clock from the store, and then you have to break it and put it in the sauce.
Step 2: Fold the sauce in 5 slices and put it in the dough.
Step 3: Paint the eggs with a pitcher of a clock showing what time you want to wake up and eat pizza for breakfast.
Step 4: Put the eggs in the dough.
Step 5: Make it flat into a round shape and draw the time you want on it.
Step 6: Put some old steel to prevent other peple from stealing it.
Step 7: Make it flat and cut into 60 slices 1 for each minute in 1 our.
Step 8: Put in the oven set the timer to 30048813.2884 seconds and put the temperature on 'Volcano' setting.
Step 9: If you think it is take to long, then get yor alarm clock and set it to now so that it will ring and you can take it out.
Step 10: Take it out uv the uvin wen it is redy and go to bed. In the morning eat pizza and also eat yor hands bi mistake.

Here's some tips: dont use piglets for drive motors, dont use black batteries, build to the weight limit, tgry to make your chassis air tight, use bsgs instead of mag snappers, get more and better weapons (like razor spikes of beatter bars), and get more protection.

Well, as a start, you should read this:   https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php/topic,5739.0.html
Also post what kind of armor you are using.

Have you just used the worst motors and batteries on purpose ?

Lurk on this subforum, look at other's designs and see what is a better build. Also, I've got a DSL tutorial on my signature.

Build to weight limits

Fill empty space so you don't waste weight

Piglets are very bad for drive. Very little torque makes a very slow bot. Good drive motors for heavyweights are NPC-t64 fast motors and Drive E-Teks (the ones with the large gearboxes).

The green burst motors are essentially the same as the Mag Snappers, but weigh a lot less. Use those instead, although I have always been partial to the Mag Snappers' "pshhhh" noise.

Those thin black batteries weigh a lot compare to how little power they provide, so you should try other batteries. The way DSL works for batteries is that you only need one ant battery per spin motor (no matter what motor it is) but the burst motors need the full amps that you are told to give them.

There is plenty more to tell you, but I'm tryin not to overwhelm you more than I already probably have.

Welcome to the forums!
I built that big robot on that TV show that time

Woah. There is a lot wrong with that.

For starters:

-Piglet motors aren't good for drive as they have low torque. Instead, I would use TWM3R Drive motors or if they fit, NPC motors.

-Those long black batteries are the worst available. A rule of thumb is that one ant battery (the tiny orange one) can power one spin motor. Burst motors must be fully powered.

-Mag Snappers (which I assume you're using) are just as powerful as the lighter BSG burst motor (the green one) and consume more power. Switch over to those.

I can see you're going to be a fan of the IRL building style, which is basically building robots that could be built in real life and not the monsters that lurk in most showcases (Read: Naryar's or Pwnator's for the most part). The bot you have there is a good start, just take my advice above.

edit: Of course I spend 5 minutes writing an awesome post to help this guy and it's the same thing everyone else has said. I feel retarded now.

Can you people stop bombarding him with IRL ? He'll choose between IRL and normal DSL on his own when he will be skilled and knowledgeable enough with RA2.

Besides, this looks like a popup to me. And you say it is IRL ? Hah !

It's not advice you're giving him, it's pigeonholing a newbie into a choice he did not made.

That looks good for a first time robot. That's IRL, we have a few of these builders that are great.

Battery Usage - https://gametechmods.com/RA2wiki/index.php?title=Amps
DSL Tips - https://gametechmods.com/RA2wiki/index.php?title=Naryar%27s_DSL_tips
Stock Tips - http://beetlebros.gametechmods.com/

Change the motors, batteries and bursts.
Don't use the piglets for drive, they aren't meant to be used for drive. Use an NPC, TWM3R, or a Z-Tek Drive.
Use BSGs for bursts, compared to the Mags, the BSGs are better.

Still keep the looks, what armour do you have?

STOP POSTING SO I CAN HELP THIS GUY
Also if you want to see some IRL bots, Thyrus and Scrap Daddy's showcases have lots of good IRL bots.

And there's the Live Designs AI pack coming together which is a whole AI pack of realistic designs. Hopefully the 1.0 will be out before the "apocalypse". I'm coordinating the whole thing and you can find a link to the thread in my sig. [/shameless plug]

He's said he wants to make robots like ones in IRL in his welcome thread IIRC.

Wow. It looks like I have some work to do.

What I picked up was:

-NPCs
-Hypno's wheels
-Airtight Chassis
-MW
-Ant Batterys
-Kill piglet motors
-Never use black batteries again

Be right back, modifying.

By the way, the armour was Al 5

Dammit, everyone said everything before me. :P
If you are build to make it look IRL realistic, you could use a judge burst instead. (Type cheatbot2 into the bot name thing, then go to extras>judge components and it's near the bottom of the drop down list.) Be warned it needs at least 30kg on it to work properly without spazzing everywhere. It's v. powerful compared to most other bursts though.

Oh and I love how similar it looks to mute.

if you want a front hinged flipper, go for something like what king mushroom made:

anyway, general advice time:
dont use piglets for drive, use 2wd npcs with hypno wheels. piglets are weapon motors and lack the torque for drive.
use ant batteries instead, they weight a lot less, take up less room and will power 1 motor each (provided they aren't burst motors, bsg's take 2.5 ants each, small jx's need 5, large ones need 7 and betas need 21. you dont need to worry about the rest until later)
the larger control board is actually lighter, it's a good habit to use it instead of the small one unless you cant fit one in.
metal hinges and wedge pieces (in the extras) will make getting robots onto your bot a lot easier. you can also use skirts if you need weight.
it's generally best to build a chassis around the components, having it as small as it will go. you will often see a bot with a small 2x1 chassis in dsl because they allow more weight for weapons.
spike strips have something called normals, which means they only deal damage on one side. weapons without normals are nearly always better so try to use them a bit more. unless using certain weapons makes your bot a lot cooler or you just want them for armour.
try and built to the weight limit, a 300kg will almost always lose to a 400kg bot (well, the closest to the mw limit) as they will have less armour, weapons or drive.
the best armours are most of the plastics and titaniums.

atleast your splashes are quite nice. may i ask again what showcases you liked the look of? just to determine if you are better off building irl or standard dsl.

edit: it seems i got beaten by everyone and my pics wont work. here's a link anyway:
https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/13914screenshot_13.png

and read some tips on the wiki, they will help quite a lot. and download nar ai, maybe an earlier version.
DSL Showcase
is this bot don't lost all razors in a fight before do a damage thought

Piglet motors are good for weapon motors, not drive.
TWM3 and TWM3R drive motors are good drive motors too.
Also, Titanium and Plastic armors are better than Aluminium.

Slimbody motors can be good for lighter weight robots too.
