Mistfire333's DSL3 Realistic Showcase
« on: March 07, 2014, 08:54:57 AM »
I've started a cool little collection of DSL3 realistic bots, and well I guess it's time to show them off! To start I have a "Hypno-Disc 2" bot that works pretty well for a SHW (Approximately 900 without the SHW piece on it) with the trademark Hypno-Disc as it's weapon powered by a 4 Mag Gearbox. The tornado wheels let it work when flipped over (hence the rhyme on the bottom; Nice try but time to die) and save me from the hassle of getting a srimech for it. The only downside to it is that it is somewhat obnoxious when it is airborne with the disc spinning. It stays completely vertical and when it lands it seems to always stay upside down no matter what, but I guess it isn't a problem since it works upside down too.. In combat, it is insane, take a look.
Components

Appearance

Just a few seconds into battle and look at the other bot!

Look at that score!

Any comments on it, go right ahead. Also, I'm using the NAR AI pack for DSL3 if you're asking.

I have a System Of A Down themed team coming up next, expect to see them somtime tomorrow or today!

Nice skin. But you can DEFINITELY do alot more with that weight. Upgrade to a dual perm? More weapons? Also the bot seems a little, I dunno, short?

The disc is not angled, and it is to the weight limit I just have a SHW maker attached to it. I'm not sure if the little blue square shows up or not in the screenshot however

Well my goal is to make it more like Hypno-Disc, not a completely different bot. I made it short since I don't want the wheels to have to be any bigger than they are now and still have it work upside down. There's having a huge block, with big heavy wheels, or a short bot with normal weight wheels. Basically I'm just trying to stick to the hypno-disc concept with my own twist

Yes but if you have the SHW maker removed it still leaves you with around 200-300 worth of weight. The weight limit for an SHW is 1200.

Hmm, heavyweights are 800kg, superheavyweights are 1200kg, so at 923.2kg it's kind of in no man's land in weight. Are you using Steel 10mm armor? I can't figure out what else could make it so heavy. I would of imagined 523.2kg was it's actual weight, not weight with a SHW anti-ballast.

With due care I believe you can actually make this a heavyweight with the same weapon, possibly even a middleweight. You have a bit more battery power then you need (the only reason you'd need more then 50 amps [10 amps x 5 spin motors, for bursts it is different] is if battery endurance is a concern - and your screenshots suggest it isn't) so you can save weight there for a start. It'll be hard to make the chassis smaller when you're going for 4 wheels and invertibility because the disc would cut into the wheels if you brought them closer, but there is some room, and it'll cut down on a lot of weight with heavy armor. The Hypno disc and teeth themselves aren't vanilla DSL 3 (Unless something has happened since the first release), so I can't comment on those, I don't know anything about them. And ofcourse there's always lightening the armor, assuming you don't go down to like below Aluminium 3mm or something. If you did want a SHW though it'd be wise to find a use for the other 269kg. Armor sheets, using a dual-perm for the weapon, things like that.

Alright, I'll see to it that I can lower it to a middleweight since I don't really feel like forcing things onto it to make it heavier

I tried something similar, 2 wheels with NPC drive, 4 mag motor with a 69kg disc (25kg DSL disc and 2 of the large teeth) and I made a solid MW with 5mm steel I believe. Making a 4 wheel version would likely require lighter/smaller drives. I assume the Hypno disc/teeth are lighter then the disc I used as well.

Well I just took up that advice on lowering my bot's weight. Now it's time I showed you guys the System Of A Down themed team!

To begin, take a look at the mandatory bot for a team like this: Chop Suey!

It is powered by the same magmotors used for HD2 except used effectively as an offense/defense this time around. It has a DSL bar so I can attach the teeth somewhere effective with some beater bars on the bottom for those sneaky, low clearance bots who can escape the teeth. It has cramped space otherwise, but the battery lasts long enough through the default three minutes and it does enough damage before they run dry too. Only problem? Once it's flipped over, it's done. :vista:

Otherwise, this HW is brutal, again look at it's damage and it actually disarms bots effectively. That is, if the enemy isn't shorter than you. :dumb)

Moar inside view

Note the time spent so far in the match, now look at that score!

I cry, when good bots deserve to die...

Up next is Hypnotize! This destructive SHW likes to toss other bots upwards, or if it bounces, ride them to victory. Literally, the hypno-discs on it spin a bit too low to the ground so it bounces occasionally (which is my advantage actually) which basically props it up on top of a bot and starts doing the desired damage. As you can see, two gear motors on this one with a panic attack flipper weapon which doesn't do much really besides help self-right in sticky situations. Very durable, it dishes out amazing damage as well! Check him out below

Another angle to view it from

Victory as always

That wraps up the first two Heavyweights. This will be updated probably tomorrow with the two middleweights: Toxicity and Mr. Jack!

I asked myself that just now. Got rid of it.

I feel like you're spending way too much weight on armor and not enough on weapons

Also, that's a panic attack lifter, not a vlad one

I was wondering who that was in your avatar; your affinity for SOAD confirmed my thought that it was Daron, lol

Anyway, an effective VS would probably use dsl bars or something to that extent with weapons (Up to you what you use, for a SHW I'd probably use the biggest hammers) and you have hella weight to mess around with so I would put in some strong armor (At SHW I'd use Ti10 or St10, your choice)

Similarly, I'd switch out those big black batteries for small Ant batteries which require 1 per spin motor because ra2 is ra2.

As far as anything else goes, I'll let someone more experienced take the wheel.

Well I would follow up on your dsl bar idea, however I'm trying to keep the bot themed. When I thought about what a bot called Hypnotize would have as a weapon, I instantly thought about the hypno-disc. Another thing is that id does have St10 for armor. Generally all I'd really try to change on it is the flipper and turn it into a hammer weapon like you said. That ant battery idea for Chop Suey! however is something I'll definitely take up. Thanks!

The middleweights will be up tomorrow if not tonight

Wait a second, are these bots in DSL3?

I might've made a mistake. Whoops.

Let me clarify- In DSL2.1, ant batteries are optimal for powering all spin motors, as they only require 1 per spin motor.
In DSL3, however, even though 1 ant battery per spin motor is still in effect, the way it's balanced has caused it to lack in electotal (which is the total amount of electricity one battery has), so using the black bar ones is a better decision, but only in DSL3.
