Larrain's DSL Showcase
« on: March 15, 2010, 06:26:28 PM »
About time I started this.

This is my first -showcaseable- DSL bot.
It is nameless for now. I have an idea for a name but I'll save it until I learn more of DSL.

Information:
  • Armor: Steel 3.
  • Weapon motor: Perm 80, I think. Not sure.
  • Invertable.
  • Drive motors are mounted on two Baseplate Anchors.
  • Umm... Everything else is visible.

Suggestions? Opinions?
Fails? xD

Extender work could be better (just use one ME for each motor), and use Vlads for this instead of shinies.  For armor, I would recommend 3mm plastic or 1mm titanium.  If you have leftover weight, use it for more weapons.

Overall, not bad for a first bot.
Tournament Record: 94 Wins - 50 Losses
Challenge Record: 2 Wins - 2 Losses

Looks like my LW The Plague, but with a better motor, I see Ounce beat me to the advice mentioning. The bot ain't that bad, nice work.

For your drive motors use Multi Extenders, one side the attachment point is farther out than the other so you have to rotate it 180 degrees for a good fit, (Thats 18 turns 10 degrees per turn)  Do the same with the weapon motor, just turn it 9 times to get it pointing straight forward! Overall a very good robot, as it was said upgrade the wheels to vlads, and if you have extra weight add some more weapons on to that disc.

Thanks, that's what I did, though before you posted it.
ME's are kind of tricky to attach facing where you want it to.

Anyways here's my rebuild. Spent some time shrinking the chassis, built it 6 times.

Information:
  • Armor: 1mm Titanium.
  • Weapon motor: Perm 80 S.
  • I'm quite sure it's invertable.
  • Has a 20cm Polycarbonate extender under the weapon for stability.
  • Uses Vladiator wheels.
  • If I try to put more weapons on it, it goes overweight.

Increase armor
Typhoon spike on the disk in the center to keep the weapons of the ground when inverted like Vengance has.

I know defer to better builders than me.

Struggle and try to fix an AX2550 on this.

Perm 80s have still really low HPs.

I now gave it 3mm Plastic. Heavier and stronger, I think it's at the weight limit..
A Tornado spike works better I think, and also doesn't ruin the color scheme that was resulting on the bot.

Should I switch to a Typhoon spike or stay with the Tornado one?

Ok, CB changed. It's just 1kg lighter, though.

The Perm 132 just didn't want to fit there, if you meant I had to change it.
It was colliding with the drive motors. When I could finally attach it, the weapon would make the bot go overweight, even before changing the armor. I want it to be a LW :P So if I gave it a Perm 132 it would have a disc with only one iron on it...

EDIT: I forgot to say I switch drive motors to "TWM3R Drive" ones, because it had weapon ones before.
Noob me :P

Looks good. Someone will pick up something I missed. The tornado spike does look better.

It's a good bot so far.  The Tornado spike is 15 kgs though; that's a lot of weight when you could use a Typhoon spike or a light DSL tooth for 4 or 5 kgs.  Or perhaps you could use a beater bar on its side--that will keep the disc low to the ground when inverted.

Suggestion: Put a spike on the bottom attach point of the Perm's axle.  This will help stabilize the bot and also protect the motor a bit against gut-rippers.

Oh, I forgot about beater bars. :P Thanks.

There was a 20cm. polycarbonate extender on the bottom AP of the axle already, but.. Gut-rippers in LW division? Are there?

Thank you all :gawe:

Yes, there are lots of Gut-Rippers.
Better than GK since 2009.
I think SM is a pretty cool guy, eh builds unicycle-bots and doesn't afraid of anything

Use a Typhoon spike instead of a Tornado spike and use the weight to add some bottom armor.

Yes! Bottom protection xD

Collides with either the wheels or the perm.

This is a huge bump. Not as huge as some others, but still huge. And it's my own thread.

I was planning on building a SnS. Any suggestions? I could never understand how you arrange the components on these...
