Klichka's Disasterous Showcase
« on: October 05, 2008, 09:04:16 PM »
My first two pictures will be of an old bot that I just recreated which was based off of another design I saw called Unibite. This is a recreation of a bot I saw a picture of a few years ago and its entirely made out of how I remember building it, but using the DSL2 parts. It's a middle weight robot and it has the same empty space problems my designs always used to have before I learned empty space was evil.

So without further ado, here is Unibite: a recreation from memory of a bot built from stock parts years ago based on a bot from a photo.  So its a replica of a memory of a replica.

Its blade also loves to snap off in mid battle and leave me an unarmed unwieldy looking machine after its loss.

Here's Swiss Knife, the first robot I built after learning to eliminate empty space. It features Heavy 10mm Titanium armor, two iron spikes and and two TWMR3 motors that make this block of swiss cheese hard to swallow and even harder to put additional holes into.

i like em both! realistic and tight space on the first one. i would eliminate that massive armor on swiss knife and add more weapons. even 1mm titanium would be good. i know some good HW's with 1mm plastic. (see "Mako" of BBEANS2)
You got my vote for RA2 Wizard. Always and forever.

Tight space on the first one? There is about 40% of empty space!

Second looks sweet, and the titanium is good, i agree with Sage on the fact that 10mm titanium is way too much and you should add more weapons, i thought that was a beetleweight.

This battery depletes very fast, that said. You shoudl perhaps use grippier wheels like Vladiator's.

You can still remove empty space by using these black and red baseplate extenders rather than anchors.

3mm Titanium should be enough.

personally i never used 1mm plastic excepted on perhaps one ant. the minimum for me is 1mm titanium. good armor.

I could probably lower the armor signifigantly and have a beetleweight. I just decided to mount the maximum armor I could afford for my weight class after I was done fitting it.

P.S. What's a good weapon to mount for a rammer?

Sledgehammer/DSL hammer, I suppose. Click knew what he was doing when he built Hammerhead Shark. It's a great bot.

Or add several spikes.

P.S. Just to say it, the first one, Unibite was more of a replica of an old RA2 bot which was an inspired replica of a robot wars bot which I can no longer find a picture of.

P.P.S. Thanks Naryar for showing me the light on how to build bots on the wiki. I'm easily entering weight classes I thought impossible before. It's rather cool to build a bot first normally with a large chassis to figure out where everything works and how it should be built, then shrink it down, redo it and find I'm in another weight class.
