Title: KenneyTh DSL Showcase
Post by: KenneyTh on December 22, 2009, 05:56:42 AM
Hey all. I've been out of RA2 for a while; I had an account on the old RA2 forums and GTM years ago, but couldn't recal the username or the password. I've been primarily focused on real robotics for the past few years but recently picked up RA2 again and've been playing it since. Here are a few of my bots to start off with, the first was made recently, while the MW and HW were made a couple of years ago.

LW, Wave of Mutilation- Slim motors for drive with Hypno wheels, Perm 080 for the weapon, one Battlepack and one ant pack, and Steel 1 Armor. The wedge isn't the best, but it can get under the majority of the AI bots often enough.

MW, Draconian- Fast T64s for drive with Taz wheels, spring loaded Beta motor for the weapon, three Battlepacks and several stacked ant packs, and Ti 1 armor. The wedge works great, and the flipper's angle is optimum for launching opponents. Most armor is various side panels.

HW, Tastes of Robot- Fast T64s for drive with DSL 1 wheels, dual perm for the weapon, several Battlepacks and Steel 1 armor.

I <3 the MW

great to see old players returning to the game and welcome back to GTM

Edit: do you have DSL 2.1 ? it has a diagonal attachment point for the perm 80 motors

Well, they are definelty cool looking robots, expesically the MW flipper. Nice Job.
Though I would actaully like to see the inside, so I can a more accurate assumption of the bot :)

Just so u know, stack batts is a no-no is DSl. Also, steel isn't the best option u have. 1 mm tit, 3 mm tite, 3 mm plastic and 5 mm tite are the best option. It would also be good if you told us the weight of the bots aswell.

Have a look through other peoples showcases, and gather some ideas. O, and Welcome to GTM :)

Edit: Dammit joe u beat me :P

Good to see oldtimers return

DSL building is pretty much different from the old days though - it focuses on optimization now.

Notably:

LW:
-These teeth have normals (deal only damage in one direction), so aren't really the best choice you have. Also -You might change your battery setup to 3 ant batts, because all spin motors do need only one ant batt to work, and your batteries will last longer with 3 ants anyway.
-Steel armor (excepted Steel 5) isn't a good choice compared to Titanium and Plastic since the HP/weight ratio of steel is lower.

MW:
-With that battery setup it is underpowered.
-Using Hypno wheels, Tornado wheels or Vlad wheels will improve your speed (since they do have more grip)

HW:
-Use Hypno wheels since they have more grip than DSL's for the same weight
-Use only ant batts for spinners... 6 will be plenty here.
-Again, Steel isn't the best choice you have.

looks nice.  Through as you might have guessed game mechanic is not necessary the same as real life ones, and some parts are just vastly better than others.  Naryar has already mention about optimization, and I guess I will make a few more general statement about it here.

A few things to consider are HP, wheel grip, normal on weapons, and the makeup of wedge.  There's also the ant battery which is the optimal battery of choice.

The minimum batteries to reach full power is 1 ant per spin motor, and amp/16 = ant per burst motor.  Through you can add more for duration.

The optimal wheel list I would say are Ant Wide wheels (1.2 grip), Vlad wheels (1.3 grip), Hypno wheels (1.5 grip), And techno Destructo wheel (2.3 grip).  If you need other wheels due to size issue, there are also slippy bottom wheels (1.3 grip), bike wheels (1.3 grip), big wheel cheese (2.3 grip), and overkill wheels (2.3 grip)

For HP, Normals, and other things, I have a list of some of the parts here, through it's not complete in any way, it might already be too long for people to care to read.

Unfortunately can't really help you with wedge.  I guess I let someone who's better at it do the talking.

As far as NAR pack goes, here's a link to NAR 1.1.  It's worth checking out if you want to participate in NAR 2.0
