Inplabth's DSL Showcase
« on: March 28, 2010, 04:40:58 PM »

Plastic 3
12x Razors
DSL Long Piston
2x Ants
2x Small airtanks
TWM3R Drives
396.9 KG

Personally, I think that I could do better with the weapons, but it seems to work well right now. I am also working on making it invertible, although that would probably be a total redesign of the bot.

You don't need the DSL bar or the plows, and with the leftover weight you can upgrade to NPC Fasts.

The DSL bar was for protecting against hammers because I tended to lose against them if they got in a good hit or two. But better drive might be a better defense than that.

EDIT:
Well, I just quickly hopped to an edit. It now lacks some of the protection, but it's so ridiculously fast I don't see that as too much of a problem. Plus, I added 4 extra razors with some freed up weight, as well as some protection for the extenders.

Same armor, batteries, air tanks.
Now has NPC fasts with Vlads for invertibility and the wedge has improved.

Looks nice.

Is taking one challenge request. First come first serve. I'm a bit rusty now but I'm going to try and crank something out for this. MW and up no glitches DSL or Stock.

If that's a skirt hinge wedge change it to a metal hinge wedge.

While I was working on rebuilding my bot with a burst piston, I had a sudden recollection of a design that I had made, but it didn't work well. So, I modified it to be more efficient and came up with this.

Ti 3 armor
6x NPC Fast Drive with Hypnos
Didn't count the irons
6x Ants
Vastly improved wedge over V1
New system for mounting spikes is more weight efficient

I'll get the updated poker up later.

EDIT:

Since I just can't get this figured out, what is the best way to get a double row of spikes attached to the storm piston?

Hate to double post, but can anyone help me out with the spike setup on the poker? I'm still stuck. Everything I've tried has either been too heavy or too fragile.

A lot of bots in Nar AI use small DSL discs to mount spikes.  They're durable and they're 2 kgs per attachment point, which isn't too bad.

Alright, thanks for the help. I'll see about the poker again and hopefully get it working properly.

Well, double-post again but I figure that I may as well dump this in my showcase instead of leaving it to the BBEANS thread.

Yay for hammer designs. That is a metal hinge wedge, and it has magmotor drive, 4 razors and unfortunately weak armor. On the up side, it dominates shell spinners and VS/HSes without a wedge due to its enormous pushing power and overhead weapon. The reasoning for the large number on the end is from me experimenting with new and interesting wedge designs, and this one was best, but still isn't as great as I had hoped.

I'll get insides when I get back home.

This will also pwn my hammer. But can yours self-right? I just need modded AI so mine can do it consistently. XD

Yeah, it self-rights quite well, actually. All I had to do was add a bar on the back of the hammer that pushed the bot up when the hammer returns to its starting position. There's also a small stabilizer in the back that you can't see so it doesn't flip over when it accelerates.

Kewl!

You might want to rotate the razors so all of them hit at the same time, though. :D

Actually, after it swings, all of the razors hit vertically. I tried hitting at angles or more on the flat sides, but all that did was get the arm ripped off. this way the arm is well out of the way.

It looks great.  I can't make an effective lw hammer to save my life. Everytime i even got close it was near this design though.  Good job.

The bot looks great, true, but it has a lurking weakness you can't see until you put it in the arena.  And that is extreme instability combined with 1mm plastic armor.

I'll do my best to AI it so it doesn't drive too fast and tip over, but it's going to be difficult to keep it on its wheels.

Yeah. I've been working on whittling down weight and reworking the drive but I just can't get anything to work... Not to mention that the wedge has next to no weight on it.

EDIT:

I just had a massive revelation. This new version solves the stability issues, had better armor, adds armor on the bottom, yet retains the drive power and speed of the previous version. It slightly sacrifices on weapons, but that's a small price to pay for the improvements. Not to mention the plow on the front works better that I imagined and can keep up with metal hinge wedges about 1/2 of the time.

3mm Al armor
TWM3 drive
4x light DS teeth
40x40 DSL bar armor
3x ants

You could try shrinking the chassis for 4 ants and just use a halfsheet on the underside to attach the drive and the plow. :D
